I took Omnicef 300 mg 2x a day..I took them for 11 days..was suppose to take for 3 weeks..At the palms of my hands started itching..and were very red..than my left foot started itching..I stoped taking the medicine 1 day ago...this happened on the weekend...of course...I am taking bendryl...about every four hours..Now my left calf has hives..both wrists..have hives..my bikini area..is covered with hives..and of all things..my right ear..is flame red and itches...also my right knee...I called my doctor today...she said stop the medicine..I said I did...she said take bendryl 50 mg 3 times a day..which I am..and I think more..This is so weird..that it has hit such different parts of my body..ohhh. I forgot...how could I forget...tonight..my butt started to itch...and its just covered in hives...Has anyone else had this problem with Omnicef...I think I would rather have the bladder infection than go thru this

My son is 10 and this is his second time he is prescribed omnicef and this time he got hives and joints pain. Feet and hands hurt the most. He took bendryle and predistone but nothing is helping..... Day 4 and the hives are getting better but the feet and hands still work....doctor says it will take a week to go away......

I had taken omnicef last Dec. 2012 for a sinus infection two pills a day 300 mg for a month and no problem with hives. Well now I have been taking omnicef for a month, again two prescriptions for sinus infection. I ended the prescription this week on Tues. March 26, 2013. Hives broke out during the early morning hours on Thurs. March 27, 2013. I have them all over me and will be seeing the doctor today Fri, March 29, 2013. I have no energy and my symptoms are still there with the sinus infection.

Not alone I see. I've been taking Omnicef (generic version of it) for 9 days. I have hives all around my ears and they are spreading to my arms and hands. I have 2 bruises that appeared as near perfect circles on the top of my feet and I know I didn't hit my feet on anything. I've had severe diarrhea too but I had thought it was the flu - now I'm not so sure. I took a generic Benadryl 1 hour ago and the funny feeling in my tongue is subsiding but hives don't seem to be changing.

I am currently experiencing your exact symptoms. The worst is in my hair, and comes and goes on my face. The first day and hands and feet were swollen too. Its horrible. Ive had the hives for 4 days now and no improvement. Im taking Benadryl 50 every 5-6hrs, and am on steriods too. I hope this ends soon. Its terrible.

My daughter was on Cefdinir for 10 days and one day after she was done with it she broke out in hives. They started at all her joints and spread else where all over her body. One of the hives was so large and swollen that it left this huge bruise on her abdomen. Has anyone else had any bruising from the hives?

Hives started 2 days after I completed the 10 day cycle of Omnicef. I was going into my Dr every 3rd day to get a steroid shot for a cold or the flu. I was having an allergic reaction to Omnicef, but the steroid shots would calm down the reaction. My throat felt strange and tight. All this during Christmas holiday, with a house full of family. It was miserable, being so sick.Last monday(today is wed), I went back to my Dr. showing him my allergic welts. He agreed it was Omnicef. He gave me another steroid shot and told me to take benedryl(can take 8 pills per day. So every 4 hours I take 2. I knew something was not right, but couldn't figure it out. Until the welts came out. It could have been so much worse, my throat could have totally shut and death. I go back on Friday, to see if I need another steroid shot.

My son also has taken the generic Omincef called Cefdiner...He is 9 years old.. He also had same reaction as many. He was being treated for pneumonia. He was on 5 days treatment when started rash in abdominal and pelvic regions. It too has now spread to ALL parts of his body. Allergist said immediately it was alleric reaction from meds and stop. pediatrician thought viral..which emerged allergic...He is on antihistamines..but not working...He also gets more itching and pain when hot...This is so frustrating!! Its been more than 1 week post stopping med. anyone else have any advice??

Hives started within 24 hours of my daughter finishing omnicef. 3 different dr.'s say that it isn't from the meds. We were told at first that it was a virus after a week it was a reaction to something but NOT the meds. What?? She was started on steroids and Zantac along with the benedryl she had already been taking around the clock. It helped with the discomfort but the hives came and went, it resembled dermagraphism. The slightest touch would result in a welt that would linger for 30 minutes or so. This continued for 4 weeks, it has subsided and left her with eczema. This has been a nightmare for her and it concerns me that the Dr.'s refuse to recognize that it may have been the omnicef!!

exact same thing my 5 year old daughter was put on omnicef for a sinus infection on the 9th day she broke out in hives all over her body and is scratching so much her skin looks raw she is taking benadryl and claritin and after 4 days of intense itching they finally put her on a steroid hope this doesnt last to long she is misrable she will never take this again

The day after I finished taking a 10 day Omnicef I had extremely bad hives everywhere doctor said it would be gone in 48 hours and to take benadryl so after a week of taking benadryl everything was still the same no improvements so I stopped taking benadryl because i went through 2 boxes now its been about 2 weeks and this last week i've been suffering through the itching without anything hoping it will stop any day. Worst feeling ever to be itchy constantly everywhere.

This happened to my son a few years ago as well. Giant hives, they were all over every joint and he couldn't bend the joints. He also had abnormal urinalysis. Benadryl didn't touch them. His doctor gave him a three day steroid burst and they went away, thank goodness, and the urine returned to normal. I hate every time they put him on an antibiotic and am worried about cross-sensitivity to penicillins. Don't really want to find out!

I was on Omnicef 2x for sinus infection that wouldn't go away. I have the most horrible rash I have ever had. My armpits are raw from itching the dime size welts. And my inner thighs as well. I am so glad to know that it is the medicine and not my detergent or something. I am going to try the benedryl. Thanks for all the tips. I will never take this medicine again.

Yes had it everywhere not just small welps but very large ones. I had to have 2 shots and benedryl before my finally went away. Hope you eel better but I do recommend a shot of steroids to clear them up faster.

My daughter reacted to the same generic form as well as your daughters. Terrible rash/hives day 5-6 lasted for days and days before fading.

My daughter's rash and reaction from the same generic form lasted for days. She was just miserable and benedryl didn't help very much. Giving every 4 hours made her so sleepy but otherwise she was in misery! I know they say it is from something else but.... not! Hers started day 6 as well of 10 and it took a while to leave her system.

My daughter is on day 7 of her hives from the Cefdinir she was given for an ear infection. Has had hive reactions to other anitbiotics in the past and possibly citrus foods. This has been the longest she has had the hives usually clear up within 5 days at the most. Had her break out on day 6 - immediately stopped the medicine. First three days were horrible with head to toe welts and patches that not even benedryl would clear. One of the pediatricians in the office refuses to admit that this is a reaction from the medicine but I am absolutely sure of it. Just getting concerned about the length of time she has had them though they are much milder than when she originally broke out. Saw her regular doctor yesterday- he mentioned chronic hives?! But also told me that stopping the medicine was a smart move on my part. She is otherwise healthy and incrediably happy and active but just breaks my heart she has to endure the rash yet again. Just hoping it will clear soon- read somewhere that the medicine can remain in the body for 2 weeks. Just hoping that this is not something that will recur as a result of taking this medication. Will NEVER give her this again...

For God's green earth, report it to your records and never take it again... 09 I had blood in my left lung full, leaking over into my right, they went inthrough my nose, and repaired a tear, and said i had scar tissue, dead husband smoked 3 packs a day... anyway what they used on me to either work down there, or put me to sleep i broke out in hives so bad i'd walk the floor with a kitchen prong and cry... ask the doctor, no answer... never did get a answer, but i broke out in skin lesions all over my body, the worse was where i'd laid on the table... it took me a year to over come,still i can stratch up patches easy on my thighs easy by rubbing... at least they could be made to research and find out what causes this extra hell we encounter....

I also took Omnicef for seven days was suppose to take for ten days but on day ten I started with large hives the sie of a baseball covering my buttock and upper back leg. Went to quick care the next day the itching and pain was unbearable. Got a steroid shot and steroid medicine to take for seven days. On day 4 with very little sleep and now have it on my belly, feet, hands, arms, chin, ears and legs almost my whole body. They are the size of dimes to baseballs. Hot showers with oatmeal shower wash and benedrly witht the steriods help me for a couple of hours where I try and sleep then and then wake up itching and hurting down in the muscle where the rash is. I had a rash last year just like it and was taking the same medicine only time I have ever got rashes in my life but the doctor thought it was a food allergy because it was after I finished the medicine and it is very painful to touch. It did not last as long then the shot of stlestone knocked it out alot quicker then the steroid shot they gave me at quick care and all this extra medcine I am having to take. I am going back to the doctor if not eased up tomorrow can not handle this anymore worse than anything I have ever experience. I agree there is something bad in medicine with seven day exposure to it. FDA needs to check into it so no one else has to suffer or spend the money I have had to spend on all the doctor visits, gas, antibodics and pain and suffering it is causing me and everyone else who is experiencing it.
