Help Getting Off Methadone!!!

I'm on 35mg of methadone at a clinic, I was on 175mg and got down to 10mg and it was terrible!! I went very slow, but I went back up. Does anyone have any advice on how to get off this crap?? I have been on it for 3 1/2 years and I want to get off so bad but I just can't even think about withdrawal. So please any advice or success stories would be great! Thanks so much.

Pour all your carries into a non clear container and start only taking a sip when you start to find your not feeling well, and only a lil sip. Wait half hour to one hour and if you still feel like s*** take another sip and i mean small sips. You would be suprized how little you really need to not feel sick, way less than you get ...in fact if you need to take less but your dose is higher than it should be you will feel more sick than you should..dont lessen your dose. keep extra frozen that way your security blanket is there because coming off totally can be scary and you dont mentally wanna let go, i know. so do the last bit on your own because for me within less than 2 weeks i was taking maybe 1-2 small small sips a day and some days none. then 3 days went by with nothing and it did not affect me mentally or physically one bit. However i did have one oxazepam in the morning and one at night which was a must in order to keep my mind on one level and the depression away. Good luck.

There have been success stories, but sadly, many people are never able to stop taking Methadone, they often require a maintenance dose of it, for the rest of their lives. It is well known to cause horrific withdrawals and cravings, even long after stopping it, in some people.

Withdrawal effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, fever, chills, rebound pain, anxiety, depression, and diarrhea.

Have you considered perhaps switching to Suboxone? More people are able to successfully become completely drug free with it.

No I haven't thought about suboxen but may've it's time to start talking to the clinic because I just want off this crap so bad. Thanks so much for the reply.

But suboxone us very additive to. So be careful on what you take good luck.

I suggest letting the doctor at your clinic bring you down medically. I medical detoxed off at my clinic and was fine. I did it my way first, made them bring me down 1mg a day but when I got to about 5mg I was miserable so I went back up to 35 and let the doc decide how much to come down. Doing it her way took longer than I wanted but was comfortable and by the time I got to 0mg I was fine. I was at the clinic for 5 years and really worked the program right. No dirty drops or missed days, went to all my groups and even started a methadone anonymous chapter. I only had to go once a month for the last 18 months I was there so they really worked with me. Hopefully your clinic is as accommodating.
