Headache Meds
UpdatedI take esgic plus which has the same ingredients as fioricet, but my pharmacy tells me they are going to stop making them or come up with a new formula, do you have any info on that? I have very bad vascular headaches and if its not soon then I'm in for some painful headaches, nothing else works except prescription stadol nasal spray, but it makes me very sick...:(

Hello, Sam! How are you?
Yes, that is correct, medications that contain Butalbital are being discontinued, at this time. Whether or not this may change at a later date, I don't know.
Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may be able to write you a special prescription that you can have done at a compounding pharmacy, so you may want to ask them about it.
I currently take Fioricet which contains bultabital, and I haven't had any problems getting them. My doctor gives me a prescription for 90 caps with 1 or 2 refills at a time before I have to go back and see her a another refill. My pharmacy has not had any trouble getting them either. They're always in stock and available.
Hi I'm Red and I started talking Butal-ACET-Caff I've taken 1 pill every 4 that's 3 pills in all. I'm having vascular nerve Headache and earache. I'm not able to take any other nerve pain meds
Because of allergies and stomach Bleeding problems. I wanted to know how long does it take for the medication to work. I'm suffering from a throat tumor that causes the non stop ear & headache. And can't sleep. Had one surgery having another in July.
Thank you Red
Fioricet (butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine) is more for tension headaches, and some doctors will prescribe them for migraines. However, not everyone with migraines will respond to this medication. I have both migraines and tension headaches. I take one Fioricet with 600mg of ibuprofen and I usually feel better in one hour...if it's a tension headache. If it's a true migraine that I'm suffering from, then these pills don't even touch the pain and I end up in the ER. I can't take triptans for migraines because they give me chest pain and high blood pressure, so I rely heavily on neuroleptics/antidepressants for prevention of headaches. I take amitriptyline and it works well with no side effects. In the past I have used valproic acid and nortriptyline but quit taking these because of side effects. Have you ever tried a medication like this for your headaches? Do you see a neurologist? I hope your doctors can find something that works for you soon. Good luck and feel better!
