Harvoni Side Effects (Page 33)

Updated

I have been taking Harvoni for 3 months now and am having nerve pain in my legs and lower back pain. Is anyone else taking Harvoni having any of these same side effects as me? Please help if you are able. Thank you

Re: kkh (# 177) Expand Referenced Message

I am new to this discussion. I don't know when the last time was you posted. I likely contracted hepatitis C in 1987. In a span of three months I administered coke intravenously twice and due to an injury had three blood transfusions. I also took IV drugs once in 1981. Therefore there are six times I could have contracted this.

I give you my background only as a qualification of how it can be contracted. When I had insurance all they wanted to do was evaluate me. I had one doctor take down the information that I gave above and write 'IV drug user' in big letters across his diagnostic page. I pointed out he was a lousy scientist if he was not allowing for the possibility of contracting it from the blood transfusions. It wasn't until 1990 or 91 that the blood supply was evaluated for hepatitis C contamination.

In the end none of this matters. Maybe I was a fool to believe that hepatitis C was going to manifest as cancer one day and make my life very unpleasant. Maybe I was also fooled to believe that Harvoni is the miracle drug. I don't have a lot of faith in physicians, politicians or 99.9% of all lawyers.

Regardless, I am in week 10 of taking Harvoni. I have some of the side effects mentioned. I like what the guy with the HIV wrote. I work on focusing on the positive. Doing what I can to make my life better.

KKH - I realize this is a long way to tell you that with a little research on your part online, coupled with a little bit of blind trust, you can find generic Harvoni inexpensively.

Re: Jim (# 369) Expand Referenced Message

I am on day 2 of my harvoni treatment. I got infected in 2005 at the Big Spring V.A. facility in Big Spring, Texas from a dirty colonoscopy machine. I am In amarillo now, and have been seeing the liver doctors here since 2009. They tried the interferon treatment on me and it caused nerve damage to my hands and feet, and I was removed from that treatment because of that. Each time I would see the liver doctor, she would continue to press me to take the harvoni treatment, and I finally gave in this past thursday. I hope I haven't made a huge mistake here. I don't have a lot of trust with the V.A. Your story is a perfect example of why I don't trust them. I feel like a science experiment every time they do something to me. When you tell them a problem you're having health wise, they always seem to either minimalize what is happening, or dismiss it entirely! I feel your pain. I hope things get better for you. As for me, I am hoping for the best. I am not having any noticeable side effects yet, but like I said, it's only day 2. Lots of time left for me to see if harvoni is truly a cure or not. There are cases of relapse out there, and there seems to be stories of extremely serious side effects that people have. One of the reasons I gave the liver doctor for not taking the treatment earlier is that the data isn't complete yet about this drug, and I didn't want to end up growing a third eyeball, or end up in worse shape than when I started treatment. Time will tell, and I'll see. Some of the data will never be revealed. The problem with Internet information, though, is half of it is pure garbage. It seems some people take perverse pleasure in other people's suffering, so I can't really rely on what I read here either. I have no doubt what so ever about your story. I absolutely believe what your saying here because I am dealing with V.A. doctors too, and I know how some of them are. I wish you luck brother.

Thank you! I do, and will continue to drink lots of water. It's funny, though, that as I was walking out of the doctors office, she said in an almost in passing way that I should drink water. I also brought up a couple of points to her about when to replace my razor and toothbrush. She almost, well not almost, laughed at the question. This is one of the bona-fide ways one could contract this disease, along with IV drug use, intra-nasal drug use, or any blood transference as in blood transfusions. Sexual contact being a dubious way of infection, but still listed as a way. I told her that I did not wish to re-infect myself with my own personal hygiene products, and she started going on about ALL of the other ways you could be infected. I was infected in an unusual way, a dirty colonoscope, and I'm not the only one this happened to. The places that made the news are Murphreesboro Tennessee, Atlanta Georgia, and Miami Florida. You may still be able to find these stories on the internet. They all happened at V.A. facilities. This is how I was able to prove how I had been infected at the V.A. in Big Spring Texas.

While it's important to stay hydrated while on Harvoni, please know that one can drink too much water. I learned about the importance of drinking water when I was on interferon and really never stopped hydrating on a regular basis after the treatment. My mother, however, drank too much liquid and suffered a seizure because too much water can affect the electrolytes in your body. Perhaps you can do some research to learn the maximum amount of water one should drink in order to stay well.

I have been on harvoni for 10 weeks and 70 days and my viral load quantitive is very low. It started with 3.3 million, now down to 40! It brought down my sgt and sat levels to normal range. It worked on the virus but I now have muscle pains in my feet and lower limbs. My feet are swelling daily!!! Shooting nerve pain also. Some days are rough. I believe that eliminating the hep-c virus has added years to my life. Some days I have a lot more energy. The harvoni makes me sleepy for a few hours. After taking it I usually take a nap! Hopefully, my pain will subside. The dr prescribed tramadol for pain which seems to help. Hang in there, it's worth it!

For all of us who are suffering after Harvoni or another product containing Sovaldi, please be sure you report your problems to the FDA. If we don't tell them they won't know.....not that they will do anything about it but they will never be able to come back and say they did not know.

My husband has been taking Harvoni for about 9 weeks and is now having severe lower back and leg pain. He thought it was his sciatica as it seems to only effect one side. He had an MRI last week and we are waiting on the results but from what I am reading this may be due to the Harvoni. He has 23 days left and we are hoping this treatment will cure him so he can be pain free :)

I started getting back and leg pain, muscular weakness, and nerve pain at the end of my Harvoni treatment. It’s been almost a year and slowly recovering, but it can get bad at times. Lots of physical therapy, massage, and chiropractory.
Has anyone had similar for this long? Will it ever go away?

Re: AJ (# 624) Expand Referenced Message

I had to stop taking Harvoni after 8 weeks of treatment. Had scarry day when my always normal BP jumped to 171! Shortness of breath and heart palpitations. Had to go to my GP who prescribed Liprosol 1 pill a day. Was very scarry and I was feeling like I am going to die from Heart attack pretty soon. BP gave me tge worst headache in my life. Virus is gone on week 3 so no way someone will talk me to finish all 12 weeks of Harvoni.

Re: erna (# 659) Expand Referenced Message

I am glad you decided to stop treatment. If the virus is no longer detected in your blood, the amount of treatment you did should hopefully keep you in remission. My blood work at 8 weeks showed Hep C. not detectable! I was convinced by doctor to stay on for another 4 weeks..... Then my troubles began big time! My joints, nerve pain, I know have Leukemia and a host of other auto immune issues. I wish I would have stopped at 8 weeks!!
