Harvoni Side Effects (Page 22)

I have been taking Harvoni for 3 months now and am having nerve pain in my legs and lower back pain. Is anyone else taking Harvoni having any of these same side effects as me? Please help if you are able. Thank you

I am one of the lucky ones, had minimal sides. I had no other health problems prior to treatment, though. I don't take any NSAIDs and the only pharmaceuticals have been antibiotics and klonopin many years ago. On here and other sites I have noticed how much people rely on their doctors for meds, and just take them without question. I had a hard time deciding to put Harvoni into my body, but for me it has been the right choice after all. I hope that those with these terrible sides can organize to file a legal case against Gillead. In the meantime, you need to stop relying on your doctors to help with the pain. More drugs are not going to help you. Learn how to heal yourself. Look into repairing the mitochondrial damage that probably began long before the Harvoni. I think Harvoni should not be given to anyone with a history of prescription drugs and/or who is not in okay health. Yes, Harvoni is suppose to kill the virus which should result in beginning to heal the damage caused by hep c, but it's not for everyone, should be prescribed based on patient profile and health history. Get online and learn how to restore your health, take it into your own hands.

I'm not sure what this comment means. I do, however, feel that the people who are suffering from taking a drug that has done so much damage deserve to be addressed in a serious manner. They were told that this poison would have very few side effects and, when they tried to get help from those who prescribed Harvoni, they were ignored or told they were imagining the side effects. The term"Russian Roulette" is a little insulting to patients who didn't realize they were being lied to.

Myself and at least two in my online support group had our doctors suggest that maybe we need to see a psychiatrist and we might be imagining it all. Even when presented with test results before and after taking Harvoni that PROVES we are not imagining these problems, they still try to sweep it under the rug. One thing we did prove, if you look up how much money these doctors receive from the drug companies - yes there is a database for this - the ones that received the most money deny the side effects the strongest.

Hi all, I just had my 6 month post Harvoni labs done and am still Hep C free.
I fortunately did not develope any of the sides people are describing here, other than some ringing in the ears, with no medical explanation.
I expected to feel fabulous after Harvoni and was a little dismayed that I just feel OK. My Dr said it would take months to recover. I do feel pretty good now.
I hate meds and forced myself to take Harvoni because I was moving into stage 4. I determined that if I started experiencing any bad sides other than what they told me to expect, I would stop taking the Harvoni immediately. I would do that, and have done that, with other types of meds.
If I had cancer, I'd have to have a really good chance at recovery to take chemo, otherwise I'd say no to that.
If the Harvoni is making you sick, reconsider it. I won't say stop taking it as I'm not your doctor, and you may really need it. But consider your options if you are feeling too badly. You don't have to take any meds if you don't want to. You know your body and what it can handle. I just got lucky, but would have stopped treatment if I needed to.

Carol, I started Harvoni only a few months after FDA approval. I had tried interferon twice and interferon with ribavirin twice, and all 4 times I got sick as hell but docs told me the side effects would go away once I stopped treatment.... And they did. When side effects of Harvoni kicked in, first they tried to convince me it wasn't from Harvoni, and then they said if it was from Harvoni the side effects would go away when I finished treatment. You have to trust your doctors, and then they lie and lie about their lies to cover their butts.

Carol, Nicely said. Now that we know the doctors, the FDA and Gilead have all lied, we must take this into our own hands. I too am damaged by Harvoni and was assured by my doc that is was safe and he now insists none of my problems related to it. HA! Folks, if you are considering taking this, you are playing Russian Roulette. However, you have the benefit of the experience of those who have gone before you. If you experience problems during treatment, YOU are in control. You can stop taking it. MANY MANY symptoms are LONG term and likely permanent. Since many of us are now more than 1 1/2 years post treatment and still suffering, unfortunately is seems we are permanently damaged. Again I will say...I wish I never took it.

It's very difficult to obtain an objective cirrhosis diagnosis. My fibrosure results showed extreme damage; the fibroscan showed minimal to no damage. The doctor said she was sending the fibrosure results only in order to obtain authorization for Harvoni. In fact, she waited to schedule the firbroscan until after medicare authorized Harvoni. Who can we believe? How do we believe anyone?

I agree. I am 2 months post treatment with my leg pain more than I can manage. This is different than my pretreatment pain. It is like my legs no longer work. Any exercise increases pain. Suggestions?

I happened to notice this is all politics. This company gave over $100,000 to a global initiative. Surprised anyone? I am not voting this year this entire country and pay to play is making me sick. We lost Amierica somehow on our backs or in this place liver.

I have been off Harvoni for almost a month now,(only took for 1 month) I kept the Dr appointment with my Primary Dr on 8/16. Still looking for that possible Fibromyalgia diagnosis. I hurt everywhere!! My PDr was so understanding, even she knew Joint Pain was a side effect of Harvoni!! Since there is no test for Fibromyalgia she ran tests to rule out anything else.... Found I was serious low in Vitamin D and I had Rheumatoid arthritis.... Don't know if the RA is from HepC or Harvoni, was diagnosed with Degenerative Joint 7-8 years ago. Now its RA? The Vitamin D has done wonders! (50,000 IU 1xweek for 12 weeks) have only taken my first dose on 8/20 but I no longer have cramping especially in the knee I had replaced on 4/19... I have more energy and feel better. Before taking the Vitamin D , My leg would shake , at physical therapy I made it through 10 minutes on the bike , sweat poring off me, tried the resistance bands and my foot shook, I ended up leaving after 20 minutes.... So exhausted, almost in tears from the pain and so depressed. I'm still not 100% but i at least have hope of recovering from this awful drug... Not saying its a cure for your pain but worth a look to see if your levels of Vitamin D are low. I remember someone else on this forum had a issue of low Vit D .. So it may be another side effect. Low Vitamin D will cause bone pain,

I have had several vitamin deficiencies... Vitamin B, D, Iron/ferritin.... I have taken supplements and hasn't helped. Iron still down on supplements.

Hey I have finished the Harvoni treatment but the first month landed me in the hospital for pancreatitis. The 2nd on charge told me I should quit but Liver Doc says stay on it. Now that I'm finished one month after treatment I am having problems with my pancreas again and possibly bile duct blockages. I am also experimenting bad headaches and blurred vision. I'm wondering now if I should have taken it at all!

I am now post treatment 1 month. I just got out of the hospital for swelling of my right foot and leg and facial pain that made me want to end my life, happens everyday now. Combine these two new issues with other swollen joints, nerve pain down legs kidney pain, severe headaches. My feet feel like I am walking on pins and needles and at times like glass, even when I am sitting down, complete exhaustion, total weakness, anxiety, severe ringing in my ears, depression, and now blurred vision. I am really upset that all these side effects were not mentioned. My VA doctor says well these weren't listed as side effects so they just have to be a coincidence. I say B.S..... I have more issues, more severe issues than ever before. I went to the actual Harvoni website, they have a place to share your story and get this, they're giving away a "momento" for taking their product, a key chain... I shared my problems that are all new and to no surprise, they didn't publish my comments about all these side effects. There is also an FOI attempt via a legal suit to get ALL the side effects that took place through 3 clinical trials, neither the FDA or Gilead want to release them all... All I am positive of is I am so much sicker with so many more new health issues than I had prior to starting Harvoni and those that developed and that I reported during treatment and post Harvoni, yet no doctor, FDA or Gilead cares... While I am now supposedly Hep C free, I was NEVER this ill, never had these issues and my life today is much worse from a medical point of view.... All I know for fact is, I was much more active, a lot less pain, no headaches, no weakness, no ringing in my ears and I had so much more energy than I do now, these days I am exhausted to a point I fall asleep sitting up, the nerve and kidney pain are so painful that I am questioning my stupidity in even starting this treatment. I did it because I was told it would extend my life and give me a better, healthier life.. I haven't had a drop of alcohol in at least 15 years. I don't do drugs and I am convinced that I was lied to, not only by my doctor but also the FDA and Gilead. I am convinced that the sales of Harvoni have dropped because of these side effects as well as many more that were kept away on purpose. I have a few more side effects as well as those I have listed but I am finding this all too hard to deal with and accept. Had they stated ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS, I would have never started or taken this treatment. I never did the interferron because of the side effects with that as well. I am just so disgusted that my life as I knew it is over, the dream that they sold me of living a healthier life seems was a bunch of BS. I am positive that these side effects and now new daily medical problems, are, a direct result of taking Harvoni and happened to me as well as many of you because our doctors were sold a bill of goods without knowing the truth.. I am pissed off at the FDA and at Gilead for not being open and transparent.. Its all about the almighty buck, not about the additional harm it caused me and many others.. One last note, these side effects are getting worse daily, I seem to have so many medical issues I never had.. So while active treatment was bad, my post treatment life and side effects are getting worse by the day and my quality of life is terrible.

What is it going to take to get this cash cow off the market? When is a law firm going to take action? What are they afraid of?
The older I get the more power I see big pharma has in this country. The American people have been exploited and sold out. I am so sorry this is happening to you. Watch they will blame you not the drug. Go back to the doctor and listen to the lies then run don't walk far away from him or her. They are NOT your friend they are in bed with big pharma. I wish you healing and peace.

I am wondering if the reason some people make thru treatment unscathed and other have horrible long term effects is where Gilead gets the ingredients for Harvoni. The ingredients are made in China folks and can be bought very cheap. Since I doubt there are controls, I wonder which drug I took and where it was made.

CATHYD: I am on a page that helps people get generics of Harvoni/Sovaldi, and they are mostly getting these generics from India. I would say 90% of the people on there who have been treated had either no side effects, or nothing significant. Very few complain of any side effects, and very few have had anything lasting.

Jim who posted #436.... I read your post and it could be me writing that post - just about everything you said happened to me except one thing. I did take interferon twice and interferon with ribavirin twice but could not finish the ribavirin made my blood count drop to a serious level. The interferon treatment made me sick as hell, but I wanted to be cured. When i stopped the interferon the side effects immediately went away. So when Harvoni came out with the claim of virtually no side effects and a 98% cute rate, I stupidly jumped on it even tho my wife warned me to wait. So here we all are, much sicker than we were before we took the cure. I am 15 months post treatment and I still feel worse now than before treatment. Some people in another group I belong to have had some very minor improvements from holistic treatments, but nothing big or lasting. I can only wish that you be well.
