High Blood Pressure Savella (Page 3)
UpdatedI JUST BEGAN THE NEW PRESCRIPTION DRUG FOR FIBROMYALGIA THIS WEEK CALLED SAVELLA IN PILL FORM. MY BLOOD PRESSURE HAS RISEN FROM AN AVERAGE OF 122/70 TO 155/85. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM? WILL IT REGULATE BACK DOWN AFTER BODY ADJUSTS. OTHERWISE SURE FEEL A WHOLE LOT BETTER THEN WHEN ON CYMBALTA FOR SAME DISEASE. COULD IT BE A WITHDRAWAL EFFECT FROM THE CYMBALTA? I WENT OFF THAT 24 HOURS BEFORE STARTING SAVELLA. HEADACHES, JITTERY, HYPER WERE NOTICED IMMEDIATELY, THAT IS GETTING BETTER EACH DAY.
This drug is the on one that helps with the pain of Fibro. I have tried the others and they don't touch it. Savelle did raise my blood pressure and after about 3 years of being on it, it got high enough to go on meds. I already feel better. I think that is were the agitation comes from. When the blood pressure rises your a different person. When I order my Savelle I get 3 months for what I get one for with insurance here in the states.
I think the headaches come from the high blood pressure. mine has never been high and now it is 186/112 I had rather go on BP meds and stay on Savella then stop it. savella basically gave me my life back. the other 2 out for FM are crap when it comes to helping with the pain. I don't know how they got approved for that reason. Just saying.
I took savella for approx 30 days then stopped because of all the side effects. That was 10 weeks ago. My BP has increased and it also feels like my blood glucose has. How long did it take for your BP to return to normal?
YES. I have, until i started Savella, had VERY low blood pressure. 109/60 is my average (some times lower). I had it checked today and it was 131/75 which for me is a lifetime high. I am positive it's the medication bc i have not changed anything and I have been exercising 4 times a week. and eating very healthy. So much so that my cholesterol dropped 30 points in less than a month.
My BP went out of control, 200/108 and I hd to stop the best med I ever took for fibro. I was so disappointed.
Savella can rise your blood pressure. I have had the same issues. Unfortunately, I have had to start blood pressure medicine because my pressure would not go down. I am a true believer in the power of savella. I have had serious nerve pain issues due to serious issues and 20 plus surgeries. Savella has really helped and I no longer am in need of any narcotics. However, I am dealing with the blood pressure but, it is now controlled.
Also, yes withdrawals can happen, even when you slowly lower your dosage. I tried to lower the dosage of savella however, my pain level raised a great deal. I had to go back up to the full strength of Savella and the blood pressure went back up. Since starting a very low level of blood pressure medicine I have been doing much better. I am not sure I will ever be out of pain 100%. However. it is being manged.
Savella raised my blood pressure from 120/68 to 165/92. I never took another capsule of Savella. AND I never will. Cymbalta did decrease my pain level but weight gain and swollen legs told me to stop that one as well. Older meds are usually safer. The Pharmaceutical industry wants our money, hence the newer patented EXPENSIVE meds are prescribed. Please see a qualified MD.
I was allergic to cymbalta so we tried the savella...getting through the first month of side effects was difficult but I was willing to at least try it. I remained on it for two months and my blood pressure went through the roof. I've been on b/p melds half my life with very good results so when it started going up to the "stroke" zone I was concerned. We doubled my b/p med but it hasn't helped so I have decided to stop the savella cold turkey. So far I'm having the same side effects as I did when I first started it. I am determined to ride this out then NO more of these drugs for chronic pain. I would rather just live with it best I can like I always have. I am monitoring my b/p 2-3 times daily and hoping it will soon come back down where it should be, then going back on my regular dose of my b/p med....my Dr. may not like it but he was just going to add yet another drug to control my b/p!
Exactly what I experienced. I was taking 100 mg daily of Savella...I was willing to suffer through the side effects getting started with it and they finally subsided..BUT my b/p ( which has been well controlled for nearly 30yrs on med) went sky high. So high I could feel it. I felt awful so started monitoring it regularly ( strokes run in my family) I was upset that when my Dr. And I discussed it , he just wanted me to double up on my b/p med AND add another one! What? I decided to get off it pronto, cold turkey and am now going through withdrawals way worse than the tapering onto it were. Much more pain, sweating profusely, nerves shot, insomnia, acting mean, etc. I know I am going to prevail in this just like I did getting off the duloxetine( which I turned out to be allergic to). Going to stay on a double dose of my b/p med until the end of the week then drop down to my usual dose, all the while closely watching my b/p. Hopefully in a couple more weeks I will feel back to my normal self. I would rather live with my pain every day until I die than be a guinea pig for anymore chronic pain medicine.
Me too, was on Davella for about 7 years and this year my blood pressure was sky high. Weaned off Davella and now it's back to normal. But, the pain is unbearable.
I was in the ER for the same thing. I love Savella,, but, it putting my heart rate over 100 andy blood pressure, which is normally low,is 1 65/100 or higher. From what I read, meds help with some people, but not all. I've had to quit Savella at only 25 mg! On blood pressure meds now, because it's still high and back in pain. I was on Savella for almost 2 months. What a miracle drug, if it weren't for the side effects.
I'm in same pill for same reason and my blood pressure is also higher this time it was 148/93
But I still feel better even helps my depression
