Glycomet 250mg Side Effects (Top voted first)

Updated

Myself aged 43 years & mother aged 75 years are having fasting sugar of ~125 and post food ~225. Advised Glycomet 250mg twice a day. Have few queries listed.
1. Would like to know what and how the medicine works related to sugar complaint.
2. What are all the side effects and how to minimize this?
3. Do we stop this medicine once sugar readings come normal, details for yes/no for future food, life style.

Appreciate your quick response, Thanks

Glycomet contains the active ingredient Metformin, it is an oral antidiabetic medication, used to help lower and control blood sugar.

Side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, flatulence and diarrhea.

As to details on how it works and what it does, you can learn more here:

As to whether or not you will ever be able to stop taking it, that is something you will have to discuss with your doctor in the future. Some people do successfully get their blood sugar under control through diet and exercise and may no longer need medications. However, there is no cure for Diabetes and many people always require some type of medication to keep it under control.
