Generic Subutex/buprenorphine - Which Manufacturer Do You Prefer? (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHello All,
I recently just got changed from suboxone to subutex due to a pretty bad allergic reaction to the naloxone in the suboxone. Basically my question for everyone is which generic do you guys prefer? My pharmacist can order any kind for me so at the moment I just got the Roxanne ones 8mg - they are white round tablets. This is my first day using and am already noticing my migraines are starting to subside, not fully, but starting to. So yeah if anyone has any suggestions please let me know all the ups and downs that you guys have been experiencing, thanks!
Good luck to one and all!

I actually think I prefer the hikima now which is wierd because they got so bad when they first changed to hikima. I got Rhodes this month after having hikima for 2 months and I notice I feel like I need to take my dose earlier because I'm feeling off sooner. The Rhodes is still good maybe it's just because I got used to Rhodes then switched.
Re: Vic (# 247)
I agree. I now prefer the hikima slightly over the Rhodes. I never thought I would say that after the first batch hikima put out... They changed the pills completely and they were awful. That's why I was shocked when Rhodes went on back order and I got the hikima and they were very close to the old Roxanne again! One thing I can say for sure and with no doubt it is that none of these brands are even remotely close to the quality and formulation of the old TEVA generic and the Subutex name brand. I heard some people say Rhodes is similar to Teva ingredient wise and maybe it is but it's not even close to the old TEVA generic! I'm talking about how good the hikima is because it's close to the old Roxanne but remember the old Roxanne was the worst of the 3 original Subutex options. It was brand name#1 #2 by a little was TEVA (it was almost the same as the name brand) then it was Roxanne #3. Eventually in 2011 I think those hi tech little ones came out and those were the beginning of these underdosed lower quality brands of buprenorphine. I always had my pharmacy order TEVA from the time the brand was pulled until they were discontinued in 2015. I was so upset when I couldn't get those any longer because they were that much better Imo. It's been a horrible decline on the quality of generic medication starting in 2012 ish and it's only getting worse. Good generic meds get pulled and awful low quality ones pop up in place and not just for buprenorphine products but alot of meds. I take Adderall also and that has gotten even worse. I had to switch to the extended release version of it because they offer a brand name still. All the generics that were instant release were very good back when I went on Adderall in 2011 but I came off in 2014 and when i started again in early 2018 all the generics I used to get had there pills changed and there were new ones that were herendously bad. I don't know how these companies get away with putting out these generic medications that are so bad it's like your not even taking anything or it's nothing like it should be quality wise. They should be very similar to the brand name and pass certain strength and quality testing before release! Sorry about the rant I'm just so tired of watching all this happen to my meds. We shouldn't have to worry about what brand we get because most of them are do bad we feel sick. This is prescription medication for God sake! It can't be a coincidence that all the really good brands were pulled right before this influx of bad generics poured out. I know Teva had the best generic and instead of continuing to o produce it the bought activis and released the crappy orange moon symbol brand...! You mean to tell me Teva couldn't use their old formula and just rerelease it?!?! Ok I'm done for tonight. I could go on and on about this crap. Hope y'all have luck getting what ever brand you want.

I am forever thankful for your vast knowledge of the pharmaceuticals and the way in which we must maneuver through this mess just to get the medication we pay good money for without being treated like a leper or getting those looks at the pharmacies just for asking a couple informed questions. I have been taking the 8mg Buprenorphine for some time and have had a horrible time finding the larger white pills in my area. I am VERY CONFUSED ON WHAT WHITE PILL I AM IN SEARCH OF BECAUSE I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE IMPRINT OR THE COMPANY NAME. All that seems to be available in my area are the orange actavis brand or that very very small white pill with the arrow on it. I will add that there is only one hospital pharmacy that seems to have a monopoly on the coveted larger white pills that are easily cut into pieces in an effort to eventually taper off the medication altogether. This particular hospital pharmacy treats cash-pay patients like they are aliens from another planet and seem to have raised their prices 300% once they found out they were the only one supplying the area. Any other pharmacy that compared stopped accepting any “new patient prescriptions” so that made it even more negative and frustrating. Can you please tell me what manufacturer I am trying to find (is it Rhodes or Hikma /prev Roxanne)? Are you able to tell me where to begin my search in the Northern Utah area my zip code is 84302 & I usually shop in the Ogden Utah 84404 area since it is more diverse (I am in Utah so diverse is really not a politically correct term, but maybe you get what I am trying to say.) I appreciate any information you may have as I am losing my patience with calling pharmacies and being made to feel stupid for asking questions about the pills because of the stigma attached to the prescription and the Conservative religious background of most residents that live in the area. I simply want to get the pill that works best for my hard-earned money that I am paying 100% out of pocket for. I am thankful I found this site because now I know there are other people like myself that I can relate to. Thanks in advance for your help and good and happy thoughts to all here.

They do not make Roxanne subutex or buprenorphine anymore unfortunately. Just cause u see the 54 411 does not mean roxanne. Since roxanne sold out its amazing meds, the roxanne formula for the 54 411s has since changed drastically..and they are no longer nearly that good as roxanne made. Good old roxanne.

Rhodes are AWFUL and bad headache with them. #1 for me is actavis 153 moon by far. I’ve tried every brand I believe rp b8 suck for me ??
Re: jack (# 3)
HiTech are the worse u might think they are good because they only have sugar and bupurnorphine. The reason they are so small. When I got sudden switch to the 8mg they seemed like they kept the sugar and forgot the Bupre. Also smelled the bottle and it was one of the most pronounced chemical scent I have gotten from any medication. It smelled like poison. The Best generic that I have been on for couple of years is Actavis Elizabeth. I can skip a dose no problems. They just slipped me RHODES and I liked the way they desolved and they seemed fine but after a couple of f weeks I could not wait till my next dose. I guess after the Actavis weaned out of my body. The RHODES half life sucks. There were some slippery moments until my body adjusted to them and after almost 3 months they work. Maybe better to stay on these so tapering won't be as horrid because the Bupre is so hard when going off that last little bit.
Re: jack (# 3)
I was on methadone to get off pain pills, dilaudid, 4 mg name brand, 4 times a day intravenously but still had chronic pain from a deer motorcycle accident so my cool doc I found got me off methadone and on generic 54 411 subutex buprenorphine but at first it was pill suboxone with the crap in it and honestly it didn't work half as well for pain relief as the generic subutex that we found out later because the suboxone was so expensive my insurance company capped it after 6 months and wouldn't pay for it no longer but would pay for the generic subutex and it works so much better, I'm prescribed 8mg twice a day and sometimes only need one 8mg all day so I have extra pills at the end of the month because I get 60 each month. you ever heard of a junkie with extra pills at the end of the month? I didn't think so. I've been on it for pain management now for over 3 years and still sometimes only need one 8mg a day, after a year and a half on methadone I was up to 180mg a day and sometimes still had cravings, it was Hell getting off methadone but well worth it, I did it in the hospital and damn glad I was in the hospital because it was the worst Hell ×10 and it was safe and outside I wouldn't have been able to do it, because the withdrawal was like nothing I ever felt and never want to feel again. I feel so much better than I did when on methadone and don't have to go to the methadone clinic and take a U/A and all that s***, my psychiatrist prescribes it and fully approved me for medical marijuana, haven't had to take antidepressants or high anxiety pills or high blood pressure pills for over 3 years, I got high blood pressure from all the pills and methadone, not any more, 118/75 average now which for a 62 year old is impressive actually. Between the buprenorphine and Mother Nature I have never been happier and healthier and absolutely no cravings for years. I have learned that getting off this drug will be nothing like the methadone from people who have been thru both and I believe them because of how this drug works for me and how I feel, also I believe it because of how it works for cravings, I have none so I think the science part of it is not as bad and hard on the body. I see no reason why I would want to get off it because it works so well for me, chronic pain management and I'm not walking death. going to the methadone clinic at 6am and get in line with a bunch of junkies reminds me of something like a scene from The Walking Dead.
Re: Goozer (# 201)
So the RPs are better than the 411s u think?
Re: Vic (# 243)
That’s so crazy me as well it’ll be almost 9 yrs since I used a needle, I sometimes feel ashamed to tell ppl I take this med. I’m thankful to know there are others just like me. I have only used Hikima and I’m looking for any info on the new Rhodes brand?? Any info helps me please and ty! His bless everyone wherever u may b??
Re: Sabrizzle (# 270)
The Rhodes brand is definitely a very close second to the 54 411.
Re: Valerie (# 273)
No you don't have to wait 24 hours however for some ppl it causes headaches to take bup after other opiates. Best to wait until you are withdrawing a little though so you can monitor effects and dosage.
Re: Lora (# 276)
That's so weird I think I honestly prefer suboxone over subutex just because I feel like it helps my symptoms more then subutex..even though I hate waiting to feel awful and the thought of precipitated withdrawals scares the sh*t outta me in that aspect Id prefer subutex but it doesn't really help my symptoms I'm wondering if I could take a Subutex and if not feeling better take a suboxone and hour or 2 later ??
Re: Amber (# 7)
Walgreens. This is the only pharmacy I've found since I got pregnant and had to switch to subutex. They always stock them. Good luck! Happy recovery to you as well!
Re: Lora (# 271)
Any idea why suddenly no pharmacy anywhere is not carrying the hickma 54 411? Its so strange that it seems to nearly nationwide, yet when I contacted Hickma they informed me they are not experiencing a back order nor recall and are manufacturing as usual.
Re: Roy (# 283)
CVS , or you can special order any generic brand from any pharmacy. It can take up to 5 days but they WILL fulfill your request for a different brand if you say the current one doesn’t work for you. I requested the Roxanne for years when my pharmacy was only providing Teva. The pharmacist told me they can “special order” any brand for any medication.
I may not have personal experience with either of these generics, but I did want to go ahead and link you to a couple other threads here with more information on other Subutex reviews:
Discuss/can-subutex-be-a-small-whit-round-pill-with-8-on-one-side-and-an-arrow-on-the-other-210321.htm
Discuss/white-pill-with-54-411-198728.htm
Maybe some of the personal experiences on those threads can help you make a more informed decision between the two.
I hope this helps!
Which pharmacy do you find that distributes this brand of Subutex? I have yet to find one that does. Walmart, Kmart, Shopko, and albertsons all do not use this one but the one by Roxa. I'd love to know which chain is associated with the Teva's. Do you know if target or cvs does? Thanks! Happy recovery!
Tevas are no longer being filled. There is only Roxanne Laboratories (big white round ones), and Hi-Tech pharmaceuticals (small white round, 8 on one side and an arrow on the other) now. Walmart fills Roxanne, Walgreens fills Hi-Tech.
ALSO PLEASE NOTE: if you do not have insurance, an RX Savings Card can help save tons of $$$$ on your SUBUTEX!
I agree. I had surgery last year and they changed me to subutex. I found the Roxane brand worked much better
