Generic Subutex/buprenorphine - Which Manufacturer Do You Prefer? (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Hello All,
I recently just got changed from suboxone to subutex due to a pretty bad allergic reaction to the naloxone in the suboxone. Basically my question for everyone is which generic do you guys prefer? My pharmacist can order any kind for me so at the moment I just got the Roxanne ones 8mg - they are white round tablets. This is my first day using and am already noticing my migraines are starting to subside, not fully, but starting to. So yeah if anyone has any suggestions please let me know all the ups and downs that you guys have been experiencing, thanks!
Good luck to one and all!

Re: cucupuffs (# 4)
This is 100% correct regarding the naloxone. I have an allergy to it as well. So I receive subutex. But my doctor thinks that suboxone is a big lie pushed by big pharma companies to charge more for the medications. He has told me, as did my obgyn that delivered my last child, that the naloxone is useless. All it does is “water down” the buprenorphine. Both also told me that putting something like naloxone into your body everyday is bad for it and can be dangerous long term. Especially if you need an emergency surgery and no one is aware your are taking suboxone or if you do need a general pain killer for legitimate reasons. I was a heavy user for 16 years And it’s all pay much documented. I broke the tip of my elbow off, both bones in my lower arm wash broke and my tricep ripped and folded itself up my arm. As always when I got the er they were rude and clearly didn’t believe me because I had done it the night before and I was pretty calm. But I told them right away I was in recovery and have been clean for (at that time) 6 years. Once I said that, they started to be nice and were all about helping me. The fact I didn’t want pain killers completely changed everything. And they started to really take things seriously. Like as if it wouldn’t have been serious had I been active or wanted something for the pain. I went 10 days only taking Tylenol and then I had to have surgery. I was so lucky I was on subutex because at first the doctor wasn’t going to give me pain medication during the surgery. Only because they thought I would go into withdrawal. I should mention the hospital sucks and they had one anesthesiologist who is the one that didn’t understand there’s a difference. Nor could he get an iv in me. It took 4-5 hours before they did and I hadn’t used IV in 6 years! I literally finally got my Iv When I should have been getting out of surgery. The surgeon wanted me to take pain meds for the first 24 hours and have new the option to stay over night to receive them and I at the time didn’t want to look like I was drug seeking so I elected to stay. CRAZY right? I just had a major surgery and bolts drilled into my bones and I feel like they think I’m drug seeking.... Well I get upstairs and sure enough the nurses did think just that. They refused to give me anything for the pain. I had the doctor discharge me and went home in Agony. But I would rather be in my own bed. Thankfully the doctor the next day said he thought I would be okay to have RX of Vicodin’s and called in either 10 or 20. For the first time in my whole life I took them as prescribed and only when I was in real pain and for the first time in my whole life they worked and took only the pain Away. The reason I say this is because the doctors originally were so lost and didn’t know what to do for my surgery and pain other than ask me to stop taking my meds! I was able to describe the difference luckily. But, if I hadn’t handled things the way I did, if I didn’t have a younger doctor willing to listen and a voice to advocate for myself I would have been screwed and that’s scary. Or what if it was suboxone and I took my meds and then they gave me morphine, or vice versa. It could have ended badly.
People need to try and talk more about naloxone being Unnecessary to someone with solid, long term recovery.
Re: Goozer (# 201)
So the RPs are better than the 411s u think?
Re: jack (# 3)
I was on methadone to get off pain pills, dilaudid, 4 mg name brand, 4 times a day intravenously but still had chronic pain from a deer motorcycle accident so my cool doc I found got me off methadone and on generic 54 411 subutex buprenorphine but at first it was pill suboxone with the crap in it and honestly it didn't work half as well for pain relief as the generic subutex that we found out later because the suboxone was so expensive my insurance company capped it after 6 months and wouldn't pay for it no longer but would pay for the generic subutex and it works so much better, I'm prescribed 8mg twice a day and sometimes only need one 8mg all day so I have extra pills at the end of the month because I get 60 each month. you ever heard of a junkie with extra pills at the end of the month? I didn't think so. I've been on it for pain management now for over 3 years and still sometimes only need one 8mg a day, after a year and a half on methadone I was up to 180mg a day and sometimes still had cravings, it was Hell getting off methadone but well worth it, I did it in the hospital and damn glad I was in the hospital because it was the worst Hell ×10 and it was safe and outside I wouldn't have been able to do it, because the withdrawal was like nothing I ever felt and never want to feel again. I feel so much better than I did when on methadone and don't have to go to the methadone clinic and take a U/A and all that s***, my psychiatrist prescribes it and fully approved me for medical marijuana, haven't had to take antidepressants or high anxiety pills or high blood pressure pills for over 3 years, I got high blood pressure from all the pills and methadone, not any more, 118/75 average now which for a 62 year old is impressive actually. Between the buprenorphine and Mother Nature I have never been happier and healthier and absolutely no cravings for years. I have learned that getting off this drug will be nothing like the methadone from people who have been thru both and I believe them because of how this drug works for me and how I feel, also I believe it because of how it works for cravings, I have none so I think the science part of it is not as bad and hard on the body. I see no reason why I would want to get off it because it works so well for me, chronic pain management and I'm not walking death. going to the methadone clinic at 6am and get in line with a bunch of junkies reminds me of something like a scene from The Walking Dead.
Re: jack (# 3)
HiTech are the worse u might think they are good because they only have sugar and bupurnorphine. The reason they are so small. When I got sudden switch to the 8mg they seemed like they kept the sugar and forgot the Bupre. Also smelled the bottle and it was one of the most pronounced chemical scent I have gotten from any medication. It smelled like poison. The Best generic that I have been on for couple of years is Actavis Elizabeth. I can skip a dose no problems. They just slipped me RHODES and I liked the way they desolved and they seemed fine but after a couple of f weeks I could not wait till my next dose. I guess after the Actavis weaned out of my body. The RHODES half life sucks. There were some slippery moments until my body adjusted to them and after almost 3 months they work. Maybe better to stay on these so tapering won't be as horrid because the Bupre is so hard when going off that last little bit.
When RP BQ Subutex is compared to the other brands of Subutex like 54 411, is there any real difference?
Tim (# 202) --
Rhodes are AWFUL and bad headache with them. #1 for me is actavis 153 moon by far. I’ve tried every brand I believe rp b8 suck for me ??
Re: Goozer (# 256)
I am experiencing the same! I was getting the RoxAne last time got Hi-tech i do not believe they are as good either! How did u find out that RoxAne were no longer making them if u don't mind me asking? I was on Suboxone for 6 months and had reaction to the Naloxone. Have beenon Subs for bout 2/2 half years now! Hi-Tech just aren't as good in MY opinion! Thank u and good luck!
I was getting the Roxanne which switched to hikma/westward they were the best in my opinion since they didn’t taste orange. The hi tech didn’t work well. I felt it wore off half way thru the day. So I won’t get again. I’ve been getting the hikma and didn’t really notice a difference as everyone else says they did except I have taken more then normally so it’s possible that’s why I didn’t notice. I did have to get the actavis one month but something about the taste bothered me otherwise they worked fine. I just heard about the Rhodes I’ve never heard of them but everywhere is out of the hikma I’m in Massachusetts and one store said they can order the Rhodes so I was curious about them. Thankfully I found this site to get a little info. Going to try them now.
Re: Goozer (# 254)
I like the hi tech small yes but they work and u can cut in half. The orange ones icky terrible the b9 the rub b9? Terrible! The Roxanne’s were the best. They really were! I have been taking bups since I got off the pain pills! I miss those sometimes I firmly believe the length of time I was on pain pills that the dopamine and or serotonin were damaged I can feel it as I have been resistant anti depressant! I tried every thing!!
A lot of days extra hard but I have a 6 yr old grandson who basically keeps me going! Peace to you all:)! Prayers
Re: Vic (# 250)
They are gone at least the original and only good 54 411 tabs. The changed the 54 411 formula and has not been good ever since roxanne left.
Re: JudgedinUTAH (# 251)
In UT my self as well! Mylan, rhodes, and himka/westward now are three companies that make the large white ones. I know a great pharmacy network out in our UT area. Try bountiful drug if that far north or jolleys if u can get slc message in review to u as well. My pharma can get any of the sub generics I get rhodes. Best imo roxanne was but they gone now and changed the 54 411
JudgedinUTAH (# 250) --
I'm out of utah as well my friend so I can tell u exactly where to go in slc and utah areas for what u need anytime for the best generics. Imo Rhodes is the best generic as it is exactly the same as brand name and made up with the same active and inactive ingredients as brand subutex so I like Rhodes. The arrow smalls are hi tech. The other large white tablets are by himka (formerly Roxanne and now westward) which changed the 54 411 formula three times and not near as good when roxanne made it. Himkas are easily two times weaker than rhodes which r imprinted RB b8. Irecxommend those and I no the Utah area pharma industry very well out here and I have my pharmacy order in all the very best generics for my meds as they have to order in as most if not all pharmacies always order in the cheapest generics to stock but I am lucky to have an excellent pharmacy network here in utah and my pharmacists will order whatever generic I prefer for any of my meds. Good to know there is a local here that can relate. Try bountiful drug formerly the medicine shop in BT. They will order in whatever for u if their wholesaler has it and some jolleys pharmacies in slc are very great pharmacies and do the same. God bless and maybe link btw us wud be good. I can tell ya exactly where to go. My pharmacy can get in any of the generic bup tabs but I get them to order rhodes for me.
SG (# 245) --
Roxanne is gone and the 54 411 have been changed drastically since like 3 times. 54 411 are longer roxanne ..I wish. Roxanne made the best bup but the 54 411 now are cheap generics
SG (# 245) --
They do not make Roxanne subutex or buprenorphine anymore unfortunately. Just cause u see the 54 411 does not mean roxanne. Since roxanne sold out its amazing meds, the roxanne formula for the 54 411s has since changed drastically..and they are no longer nearly that good as roxanne made. Good old roxanne.
Re: JudgedinUTAH (# 251)
The large white buprenorphine is either from Hikma or Rhodes. All the other generics out there are no good... You can check btodrems and find all the products on that page.
Re: Goozer (# 211)
I am forever thankful for your vast knowledge of the pharmaceuticals and the way in which we must maneuver through this mess just to get the medication we pay good money for without being treated like a leper or getting those looks at the pharmacies just for asking a couple informed questions. I have been taking the 8mg Buprenorphine for some time and have had a horrible time finding the larger white pills in my area. I am VERY CONFUSED ON WHAT WHITE PILL I AM IN SEARCH OF BECAUSE I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE IMPRINT OR THE COMPANY NAME. All that seems to be available in my area are the orange actavis brand or that very very small white pill with the arrow on it. I will add that there is only one hospital pharmacy that seems to have a monopoly on the coveted larger white pills that are easily cut into pieces in an effort to eventually taper off the medication altogether. This particular hospital pharmacy treats cash-pay patients like they are aliens from another planet and seem to have raised their prices 300% once they found out they were the only one supplying the area. Any other pharmacy that compared stopped accepting any “new patient prescriptions” so that made it even more negative and frustrating. Can you please tell me what manufacturer I am trying to find (is it Rhodes or Hikma /prev Roxanne)? Are you able to tell me where to begin my search in the Northern Utah area my zip code is 84302 & I usually shop in the Ogden Utah 84404 area since it is more diverse (I am in Utah so diverse is really not a politically correct term, but maybe you get what I am trying to say.) I appreciate any information you may have as I am losing my patience with calling pharmacies and being made to feel stupid for asking questions about the pills because of the stigma attached to the prescription and the Conservative religious background of most residents that live in the area. I simply want to get the pill that works best for my hard-earned money that I am paying 100% out of pocket for. I am thankful I found this site because now I know there are other people like myself that I can relate to. Thanks in advance for your help and good and happy thoughts to all here.
Re: Bobby (# 245)
54/411, have you had those?! I thought they were gone! I called CVS and they have this one, I hope it’s the same! Bartells they get whatever Walmart they have crap! I can hardly wait!! I will let you know.
Re: John (# 212)
You say you use buprenorphine for pain, and you stated it is much better than suboxone or subutex?..but both are buprenorphine, only one the suboxone has naloxone added to it,..so what do you take? Buprenorphine without naloxone or with naloxone?
Re: Vic (# 247)
I agree. I now prefer the hikima slightly over the Rhodes. I never thought I would say that after the first batch hikima put out... They changed the pills completely and they were awful. That's why I was shocked when Rhodes went on back order and I got the hikima and they were very close to the old Roxanne again! One thing I can say for sure and with no doubt it is that none of these brands are even remotely close to the quality and formulation of the old TEVA generic and the Subutex name brand. I heard some people say Rhodes is similar to Teva ingredient wise and maybe it is but it's not even close to the old TEVA generic! I'm talking about how good the hikima is because it's close to the old Roxanne but remember the old Roxanne was the worst of the 3 original Subutex options. It was brand name#1 #2 by a little was TEVA (it was almost the same as the name brand) then it was Roxanne #3. Eventually in 2011 I think those hi tech little ones came out and those were the beginning of these underdosed lower quality brands of buprenorphine. I always had my pharmacy order TEVA from the time the brand was pulled until they were discontinued in 2015. I was so upset when I couldn't get those any longer because they were that much better Imo. It's been a horrible decline on the quality of generic medication starting in 2012 ish and it's only getting worse. Good generic meds get pulled and awful low quality ones pop up in place and not just for buprenorphine products but alot of meds. I take Adderall also and that has gotten even worse. I had to switch to the extended release version of it because they offer a brand name still. All the generics that were instant release were very good back when I went on Adderall in 2011 but I came off in 2014 and when i started again in early 2018 all the generics I used to get had there pills changed and there were new ones that were herendously bad. I don't know how these companies get away with putting out these generic medications that are so bad it's like your not even taking anything or it's nothing like it should be quality wise. They should be very similar to the brand name and pass certain strength and quality testing before release! Sorry about the rant I'm just so tired of watching all this happen to my meds. We shouldn't have to worry about what brand we get because most of them are do bad we feel sick. This is prescription medication for God sake! It can't be a coincidence that all the really good brands were pulled right before this influx of bad generics poured out. I know Teva had the best generic and instead of continuing to o produce it the bought activis and released the crappy orange moon symbol brand...! You mean to tell me Teva couldn't use their old formula and just rerelease it?!?! Ok I'm done for tonight. I could go on and on about this crap. Hope y'all have luck getting what ever brand you want.
Re: jb (# 233)
The RP b8 that I got this time are terrible! They make me tired and irritable! I liked the 54 511 and the ones w the arrow on them! What’s going on w the crap like the orange ones and b8. Why is it so hard to find the ones that work? Thank you
