Galvus Met 50mg/500mg

I am a diabetic type-2 patient, 78 yrs old, on medication. I am taking Galvus met 500mg before breakfast once daily. My sugar level ranges between 150-210. Is it advisable to take Glucophage XR 500mg-dosage? Please advise.

Hello, Kaizer! How are you? Has your doctor instructed you to take it? How long after eating do you check your sugar levels?

What types of foods do you eat? The NIH has some very informative articles on diabetes and a proper healthy diet. For example, you should avoid sweets, as much as possible, and if you do want something sweet, you should stick with fruits. When it comes to most vegetables, you can eat as much as you want, since most contain little fat and little sugars.

You should also avoid high fat foods, since they can coat your cells and prevent them from absorbing the sugar they need for energy.

In other words, you can't expect the medications to do everything, they can help, but for the best results, you also have to adjust your lifestyle.
