Gabapentin Diarrhea

Ive been on gabapentin 800mg 3 x's a day for several months for treatment of fibromyalgia pain and anxiety. I have been waking up every morning with diarrhea (2-4 trips to bathroom) for about the same amout of time, and my doctor claims the 2 are not related. I cant remember having a normal bowel movement since beginning the gaba and am wondering if anyone else may have had the same experience? The gaba has been the most effective treatment I've tried for the fibromyalgia pain & the added benefit of treating my anxiety has been wonderful as well & I'd hate to stop taking it. But if the trade off is daily diarrhea, i may have to stop! Of course my doc wants to run a bunch of expensive tests for the diarrhea, but if its as simple as stopping the gaba I'd rather start there first! Just wanted to know if its worth a shot?

According to the side effects listed by the FDA, it has been known to cause diarrhea in some people that take it, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight gain.

There is another medication available that you can try, if your doctor approves, to see if it helps without causing such an unwanted side effects, it is Pregabalin.
