Gabapentin And Opiate Withdrawals
UpdatedDoes gabapentin help at all with opiate withdrawals? Does it make it at all any more comfortable?

It may help alleviate some of the symptoms and prevent the risk of possible seizures, according to FDA reports.
Has your doctor prescribed it for you? Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes.
Are you on any other medications?
I've been off methadone for 9 days and I took 3 Co-codamol. Will that make my withdrawals even worse?
Also, does gabapentin help with opiate withdrawal?
Hello, I am currently on day 6 of being off opiates after a 60-80mg (give or take a day) habit for 2 years... My first 2 days I didn't use anything to cope with withdrawals. Over the next 3 days, I took 900mg of gabapentin, 600mg of gabapentin, and 900mg of gabapentin to help with sleep and have had 0 withdrawals throughout the day. (900 day-3, 600 day-4, and 900 day-5) am I prolonging my opiate withdrawals? Or am I just waiting for a disaster to happen and would have to go through gabapentin withdrawals?
Re: Bobby (# 3)
Really hard to say about your situation, but just be careful that you don't take too much of the Gabapentin as there will be some side effects from them.. Good Luck
Gabapentin withdraws were worse for me than opiate withdrawals because they lasted longer.
A xanax and immodium for diarrhea will help a lot more than Gabapentin will.
The third night is the worst. After that it gradually gets better, unless you’re withdrawing from methadone or suboxone. Those withdrawals last longer.
Re: Optimistic (# 5)
i am on day five from suboxone withdrwals c.t. I take 300 mgs. of gabapentin for the back pain and an o.t.c. for pills for the r.l.s. from withdrawals so far so good. but now i'm wondering about the withdrawals,if any, from gabapentin. Any thoughts?
It might, but Gabapentin withdrawals are worse than opiate withdrawal and it takes longer, so be careful.
I found that Immodium AD, some anti anxiety meds, and something to help me sleep (especially on the 3rd night which is the worst) really helped. I have ADHD so I have adderall and that helped with the couple days where I didn’t feel like I could do anything.
I hope that helps. I’ve come off long term opiates a few times and it’s never more than a week and once you get past the 3rd night it should get better.
Re: Craig (# 2)
"Co-codamol" i haven't heard of this drug in years, you must be across the pond in england?
no codeine, will most likely not be of any help. i don't have any research on Gabapentin, it gave me a headache and bad dreams. you would probably feel better with ativan for pain.
