Gabapentin And Clonazepam (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been taking 300 to 900 mg's of Gabapentin for at least 15 yrs. for restless legs..doesn't seem to be enough now but am hesitant in taking more. Would it help if I took Cal Mag supplements as well at night? I also take a good magnesium supplement at night too. Also because of a recent trauma I'm on one mg of Clonazepam as well which doesn't much help. It puts me out for a couple of hours and then I'm awake. Between the restless legs and the lack of sleep my nights are a bloody nightmare and I'm totally fatigued the next day. Any help out there. Also I'm 75 yrs. old.

Since my last post, I've seen my doctor and she says I can take 4 gabapentin a night so 1200mg's. It's a lot I know but it's helping the restless legs. Also, and this may sound weird it was suggested I drink a glass of tonic water before bed which I do...no gin of course!! could it be the quinine in it that's helping?? Also I'm being weaned off the clonazepam which wasn't helping and on very small dose of trazodone..50mg's a night. Had a couple of fairly decent night's sleep but last night was terrible..... I'm also taking the supplement Inisitol which is supposed to be calming plus choline which helps our thoughts from racing or for me, anxiety that I can't get to sleep.
I am very glad you've found things that are working for you.
Are you experiencing any new side effects, which the NIH lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, daytime drowsiness, and mood swings?
And yes, Quinine has been known to help with RLS.
Since my last post my sleep med has been changed yet again...I am still taking 600/900mgs of Gabapentin each night plus the aforesaid can of tonic water but I'm now on Mirtazapine..37mgs a night. Again it's not helping very much. I take it around suppertime so that by 9 or 10 I'm feeling pretty groggy but when I try to sleep...nothing, just sort of in a stupor..then I'll take a little clonazepam but still not much relief. Last week I went for three nights straight with hardly any sleep, then on Sunday night I slept for 10 hours...pure exhaustion! The next night, again hardly any sleep. I'm wondering if I should increase my dose to 45mgs..I hate to..I hate the thought of filling myself up with yet more medication!! Is there anybody out there in the same dilemma as me? Does Mirtazapine really help with Insomnia?
