Just started this drug last week and it definitely seems to help with pain/numbness from nerve damage to forehead from auto/pedestrian accident a few years ago, but it's giving me pretty severe lightheadness and dizziness - well my system adjust to this drug? 300mg 3 times daily

Hi Steve,

Gabapentin's most common side effects in adult patients include dizziness, drowsiness, and peripheral edema (swelling of extremities); these mainly occur at higher doses in the elderly, but otherwise not uncommon.

If your situation gets too out of hand, I'd suggest contacting your doctor about other alternatives. Personally I would try the addition of some natural remedies like Cedarwood as well as Helichrysum Essential Oil for regeneration of nerves and nerve relaxation, etc. Those are the only two I know of off the top of my head that may be of help to you without the side effects. Also, Peppermint oil may be beneficial for the lightheadedness and dizziness. Just a drop on your tongue or rubbed on the sole of your feet should do the trick.

I'm guessing that if you have been taking Gabapentin for a while now and you've had those side effects since you first began taking it, that they won't go away until you stop taking it. But it's worth a try to counteract the side effects if you can't stop taking it right away.

I use this medication for anxiety and it seems to work wonders-much better than benzo's-no tiredness like klonopin. Is it ok to use for anxiey-and depression? I have no job or insurance so I cannot go to a doctor. Does the medication have an off label use for anxiety?
