Gabapentin 2400mg Per Day

I have been taking Gabapentin 600 mg, 4x per day for a total dosage of 2400 mg per day to help keep the nerve endings on my bladder calm for the past two years. I have IC [interstitial cystitis]. I'm noticing now that I'm having great difficulty with my memory and just simply recalling words to use in conversation. I'm also having right, low back pain extending into the hip, thigh and lower leg with leg pain when sleeping. This pain is making it difficult for me to walk or sit upright. I stay extremely fatigued. I'm 42 and my uro took me out of work in Oct of 2011 and I don't see myself returning to work. I just wonder if the Gabapentin is helping or worsening my condition [since IC can lead to the above complaints] and if anyone else is having any similar problems. Thanks.

My gf actually has a less severe condition of interstitial cystitis, that only becomes problematic under stressful situations. Her way of dealing with it involves natural methods (staying away from processed foods as often as possible, meditating, using various essential oils, etc).

On another note, I've read of testimonies from other individuals stating that they have cured their interstitial cystitis over the course of several weeks, by juicing raw hemp/cannabis leaves. Although hemp is only legal in certain states, its new found medical applications may be something to consider in the long run.

I also want to add that prescription medications are only intended to mask the symptoms you're experiencing and are not made to cure any condition. So I don't think Gabapentin is necessarily helping the problem, nor is it likely to make it worse. All it's doing is covering up what's already there so you can better cope with it. This is just my theory based on personal experience and research, but I hope this info helps in anyway!

I too have interstitial cystitis. I'm on Lyrica. I'd taken nuerontin previously, but I find the Lyrica much more effective and has fewer side effects. However, I have also started having extreme pain in my upper right thigh, almost in the groin area, near the pelvic bone. It makes getting out of a chair or walking almost impossible at times. I never even put it together that it could be the Lyrica, but one of the side effects listed is joint and muscle pain. Now what?? It sure helps for my peripheral neuropathy so I don't want to stop taking it. Always something, right?

Currently I am taking gabby 600 mg 6x a day starting as soon as I wake up 7 am and take my last one before bedtime at 10 pm I in am taking in roughly 3 600 mg daily and totaling 14400 mg a month. Before that I was being prescribed different medications. Some worked without the gabs and sum of the others didnt. It took my behavioral health physician about 2 years to find all the medications I am recently taking to all work and keep me stable. None of them gve side effects. My emotional state finally was back to how I use to be happy, cheerful, and I feel so much better, look and feel healthy again, plus got all my body weight back to 165 from a punie little 105 lbs. Now when I smile or laugh my face hurts. I missed that. 10 years in the hands of a sociopath can kill ya. It nearly did to me but the gabbies worked for me well. I just need to drink less coffee or redbulls. It makes you feel like your dry, drunk, high stepping and staggering. Worse than those that side wabble and lean opposite direction walking so toshed after drinking booze.

I take cyclobenzaprine, ascorbic acid and multivitamins. If I dont have or take them all if they were removed and replaced with other prescribed medications its like I was at the beginning of it all getting medical help. Aggressive, agitated, so emotional to the crying and giving up all hope. Lashing out verbally, mentally abusive, anxiety and panik attacks. Sleep shut myself off away from socializing. Hermitted to my bedroom. Lack of doing anything, even getting off the bed. Thoughts of being better off dead & not missed. I felt my own family plotting or devising to do something to me. I felt like everyone was stabbing me in the back 2-faced or being shady and plotting, keeping s*** from me. All this till gabbies worked and was compatible with other treatment. I am the happy smiling and social butterfly I use to be. I found myself. I almost lost myself and a lot of family and friends are glad I am me again and not that person that had been mind screwed by such a person that I let do that to me. Lesson learned and now time to teach the weak minded and the not so strong willed people to watch for the signs and actions of others, cause caught off guard they will snatch u right up in the webs they weave.
