Fioricet Concern Please?
UpdatedI am 48 have been married 31 years. Have been physically and emotionally stressed out. Been having marital problems trying to work out. Have a teenage precious son with Add and other disorders. I have been taking Fioricett, and I find myself running out of them earlier than before due to be refilled. I am having more muscle tension headaches, and this is all that will relax the muscles to prevent it going into a migraine. My dr. prescribes 3 a day, I find myself taking 4 a day a lot not sure how to ask the Dr. if he could change the dosage? Please answer?

It is normal for your body to get used to a medication, when you've been taking it for awhile, and for you to eventually need a dosage adjustment, or a switch to a different medication, and your doctor is aware of this information.
Thus, the best thing to do is to be honest with them, tell them that you've been needing to take more, and take them more frequently, but let them offer a solution, instead of asking them to change your dose.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of Fioricet as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, sedation, and depression.

Your doctor will likely want to do an exam, and possibly run some tests, to check what exactly is causing this, be it your body being used to the meds, or something else.
Are you on any other medications?

I don’t think people get a tolerance to this medication except for the caffeine part.
But butalbutal is a barbiturate it’s addictive. This lady need to talk to her doctor she may even be giving herald rebound headaches.
Hi. I realize this post is from 12 years ago, but I’m going to reply because it showed up in my email as if it was new.
The medication you are taking can be addictive, so I would be concerned about that. But also you can get rebound headaches from using too much acetaminophen for headaches. This does not happen to me with Fioricet, but that might be what’s happening here. You should definitely talk to your doctor, I would not admit to over-using your medication, I would tell him it just doesn’t work as well as it used to and you’re not sure if you should take an extra pill or if you need different meds or watt. It’s quite possible he could fix your problem with a muscle relaxer that wouldn’t be addictive or cause rebound headaches. But he can’t if he doesn’t know that this isn’t working for you anymore.
