I'm trying to find a doctor who prescribes methadone pills in Atlanta ga. Can someone please help me?

My name is Jen I had a sever wreck in 2007 messed my back n pelvis up I'm in server pain constantly I was on Methadone it is the only thing that works. My Dr took my 10mg 5 times a day away to put me on 2 10mg Norcross a day. I need a Dr in the Valley Ophelia Auburn AL area. To give me my methadone back

I live in Gainesville, Ga and the Psychiatrist I was seeing in Athens, Ga recently retired. I was prescribed 2MG Xanax Twice a day as well as 70MG Vyvvanse one a day. I need to find a doctor in the area around Athens or Gainesville or Buford area who would be cool with keeping me on my currect medication plan ! AMP141- If you were an established patient seeing a doctor, why would they have not set you up with a new physician when this dr retired? Most doctors (good ones.. those that care and take their hippocratic oath seriously) with an established practice who retire or move will set their pts up with a new dr- ESPECIALLY pts of a Psychiatrist. If this dr just retired and did not refer you to another, that is just WRONG.

Try Dr Matthews @ Nexux pian cen or Phoebe Pain center. You will need a Drs referral! You could try Dr Nyudu ! 229-436-2220. Good luck. I went to private clinic Albany for many years before I finally got a Dr to understand he problem.

Hello! This message makes It kind of hard to see who wrote what to do but I believe it says that David is the one who gave the name and numbers of private doctors believed to prescribe methadone? I was wondering, David (or whoever wrote this message or ANYONE that knows of any) if you know of any other doctors who might prescribe it? I live in Cumming, Georgia and I doubt there are any in this small town but maybe in Alpharetta, Roswell, Atlanta, Gainesville, or any of the surrounding cities..? I tried calling all of the ones you listed and one wasn't a working number anymore, one said they only prescribe Suboxone, and the other two didn't answer and I tried leaving messages....so if you know of any others I would really appreciate it and it would help me out a great deal I'm having all of these side effects for awhile now and they're starting to scare me and the doctors at the clinic I've tried to talk to are extremely unhelpful and don't seem to care so please let me know ASAP. Thank you very much

Hi Danielle.
Sorry to hear of the predicament that you are in. As I am sure you probably know since you mentioned the clinic (which I assume you are speaking of the methadone clinic), methadone can only be prescribed by regular doctors for pain management and not for addiction purposes. Therefore, if you are looking for methadone to be Rx'd by a doctor that isn't an Addiction Medicine Physician, you should try a pain clinic...but of course you would have to say it's for pain. If you decide to try Suboxone in the future or if you want to look into finding other clinics, samhsa.gov has a 'Clinic Locator,' and also all listings of doctors that Rx buprenorphine (Suboxone, Bunavail, Zubsolv). I wish you luck in finding an answer!

I've tried the Suboxone route and found it extremely unhelpful and made me really nauseous even with the zofran they prescribed. Methadone definitely hasn't been perfect either but it's helped more than anything else but in having really bad side effects. I made an appt with the doctor there and all they said was that I "wasn't at my therapuetic dose yet" which means they wanted to put me on more instead of look at why I was having these serious problems such as chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling, and extreme pain in my legs and ankles. So I know that I either need to probably lower my dose or start tapering off completely, but just as about everyone in the addict community, no clinic ever wants to taper you off (not properly anyways) bc they would lose your money intake. Regular doctors don't know about methadone so who is supposed to help me with this?? I NEED a doctor who knows what they're doing and will help me...I really don't know where else to go from here :(

Hello, I'm in colorado. I've been on methadone for over 15 yrs. I was abducted when I was a young girl and woke up in a hospital almost an amputee. There's still that chance everyday. Because of all the complications and problems that are part of my life now I have had surgeries every 3months since that accident. This is why I've been on methadone for such a long time.Problem, my Dr. Cannot perscribe methadone anymore. It's a law that was passed not allowing private Dr,s to perscribe that without a certain license. Which he has chosen It to do. So" .......here I am ....scared ,I've called many Dr.s and they either want to try holistic stuff on me or acupuncture, etc...... My Dr. Said he won't leave me hanging but I know I need to Find another Dr. That will perscribe Methadone. If anyone knows anybody in Colorado please let me know. Have a nice day. Hi Kadine-
I am so sorry for what has happened to you in the past, I can't imagine how hard that had to be to go through.
A doctor can prescribe Methadone or any other medication that is used for pain, as long as he is prescribing it for PAIN and NOT for maintenance as related to addiction. However, most doctors that once would Rx pain medications for pain management are now mostly referring such patients to Pain Management (a "Pain Clinic") due to restraints that are making it harder for Physicians to prescribe opiates as part of a pain management treatment plan.
So, if I were you I would talk to your doctor and ask if he can refer you to a legitimate pain management clinic/physician, and go from there. I too, am on Methadone for 17 years and I would be nervous if I thought I would not be able to stay on it (though I am now on it for addiction through an OTP (clinic) and we can remain on it as long as we need to be)...as I realize that I may just take it for life.
Kadine, I wish you the very best in the future! Keep us updated as to what happens. I hope you are able to find continued care...as I am sure having to result to a Methadone Clinic (like me) would be a last result (though Colorado does have good clinics...just not a lot of them).

My husband needs to find a private doctor for methodone for his chronic pain. He is 65 and lives in the Atlanta area. He does not want to go to a pain clinic because he has had several people tell him they prescribed other medications to get addicted to. He just wants one pain med-method one.
