You must be ref. to Publix in G.G.Sarasota? Family has been filling scripts for 27+ years at Publix, myself over 22 years and the new B**** Pharmacist there has "copped" a real attitude and No, she has refused to fill any scripts for 30mg oxycodone within the past 3 months! AND Hundreds, I mean 100's of thousand of $$$ later for all family meds spent at Publix!!! DISGUSTING!!! Past Friday I, literally, drove to 10 different pharmacies and no luck. Regional pharmacy manager was no help saying he would speak to her about her rudeness - big deal.

I understand that FL Gov. Scott is behind all of our med shortages - he states he is "going to clean up Florida" - This is from the man who bilked Medicare out of 600 million dollars!!! (Why he isn't in jail let alone FL voted for this thief??) In any event, believe that all us who legitimately require this medication, MUST lean on our pain management Doctors to supply us! They "say" there is nothing they can do...they'll find a solution once it effects their pocket book when patients say "screw it". The power of the AMA combined with the power of the pharma companies CAN put an end to any shortages which exist. It's up to ALL patients who cannot obtain their meds to really make some noise, starting with their Docs. I have so many medical injuries, mostly spinal, from being rear-ended by a tow truck and 18 wheel chassis that on a "good" day with meds I have problems getting in and out of the car 3-4 times let alone driving to 10 pharmacies. Seriously, people need to really get firm with their doctors, withdrawal all scripts from pharmacies that treat you like publix is doing, vote for a governor who will support patient rights, etc...

I'm sorry that I have no solution to where one can get these meds in the Sarasota-Bradenton area...supposedly, there are "monthly allotments"; however, Friday was the 1st of the month and 10/10 pharmas (everywhere from CostCo to Walmart) had ZERO and my Dad had heard on the news - ABC - Friday night that oxycodone along with 2 other meds were being recalled... could not find in newspaper nor the internet. Urge your family and friends to help by making some "noise". It sucks living 24/7 in pain with the only mediocre relief provided by some meds being deprived to those who require it in order to function. Can u imagine in the government put an allotment on Diabetic or Cardiac medication???

Call your Dr and get 15mg but two scripts. He wouldn't give it to you if you were not legit. Unless the guy has a bad reputation as taking care of drug seekers but even then a script is a script, they say theyre out because it would be discrimination if they just said "NO You've had enough" lol What are you my mother

Sasha,

If you think one politician (Gov. Scott) or one Party is responsible for the prescription drug shortage/problem, than you're naive or ignorant. In fact, so many of Florida's problems are a result of the DEA's policies, which is a Federal agency.

But even beyond that, consider that the biggest proponent of Marijuana legalization is John Morgan, who hates narcotic pain relievers because of what they did to his permanently injured brother. And who is John Morgan's personal puppet in this cause--none other than Chris Christie--the man who wants to be governor...again.

The last thing I want or need is someone in government telling me that marijuana is a perfectly acceptable substitute for my pain medication--which is what John Morgan is telling me, and by association, Chris Christie. Take a closer look at any politician you support.

The problem still exists. I see a Pain Management doctor that is closer to my home. He has prescribed many different pain meds, most of which I CANNOT FILL. Why? I live in the "pill Capitol" of Florida, Pasco county. This is simply ridiculous! My pharmacy just went out of business (Kmart) and after going to hundreds of pharmacies, I have been told many of them refuse to carry MSContin (30mgER), Opana, etc. this past September, he wrote for Opana. I went to a bunch of pharmacies with the same result. Nope. I went back to my doctor, explained what had happened, and was given the MSContin. They even called the drug rep for that medication because the doctor was very upset, and told me he wouldn't change it again! The drug rep told me that I shouldn't have any trouble. She gave my doctors office a supposed list of pharmacies that not only carried it, but would fill it. How naive I was! Over 100+ miles and countless pharmacies later, no luck. I used to go to Kmart, but they required that the doctor be local. My former doctor was in Tampa. I finally switched to my current doctor, which is just a few miles from my home, and went back to Kmart. They were very good. They ordered it and that was that. At least it was, until the store went out of business. I have gone to the pharmacies they recommended, and low and behold, I'm right back to were I started! I am a disabled veteran (50%) and am now screwed! Legitiment prescriptions and people that truly need these medications are being turned away. I am counting the days when I can leave this unethical and barbaric state behind! I have addressed this before with our state rep, and it didn't do any good. It seems that, if anything, the situation is much worse. I hope they get that the way the system works now is causing many people to obtain meds or illicit drugs illegally. The only saving grace I see in the near future is Amendment 2. That is the only reason I will be voting. The 3 candidates running for governor are worthless. Mark my words, the "powers that be" that have made it next to impossible for people in true need to fill a legitiment prescription are also the ones to be held accountable for the many suicdes of people that are given no hope and without the help of their medication, cannot function and have no hope of help in the future. If amendment 2 falls thru, I know I personally am out of options. I am so tired of the looks I get when I have to go from pharmacy to pharmacy, all because of pill mills, dirty doctors, etc. If I make it out of this state alive, I will never look back to Florida again. If I don't, shame on you, Florida, drug distributors, manufactures and the government. I served my country with pride. There is NOTHING to be proud of when people are in need and the government shuns their need and gives them no hope.

As a Vet, why don't you use the VA. I have two friends, and another I know of, who are getting:

Oxycodone/Methadone, Oxycodone/MSContin,
Percocet/MSContin

And the VA pharmacy fills them, with none of the excuses you get from private retailers. Sadly, unless you have an established relationship with a local pharmacy, this is what most people are experiencing. I can't imagine the frustration for new patients discovering just how backwards Florida's PM programs--especially WRT pharmacies that should be looking out for the patients interests. It's pathetic and inhumane.

I love in Lady Lake, FL. I have chronic pain. I have chronic kidney disease, due to having 1 kidney. My kidney Dr. will not allow me to take Tylenol or Advil, etc. He says it could blow a hole in my 1 kidney. I take hydrocodone for this reason. I need it for severe pain. I have had back surgery & just had an injection in my lower back. All of a sudden, last month, Walmart will bot fill my prescription not will Walgreens or CVS. What is the answer? Please help. Thank you

JudyM, What reason did they give for not filling it ? If they said they were out, that may be true. Pharmacies tend to run out of Schedule II meds this time of year and earlier. Manufacturers are allocated a cerain amount of actibe ingerdients. When they have exhausted that supply, they have to wait until the new year to make any more.

What gets me, is there are people out there who need pain medication just to live a normal life. I am on 2 different pain meds, oxycodone 30mg 4x a day and oxymorphone 15mg 3x a day. I have a disease called Charcot disease, where it is treatable through pain management, then eventually amputation. I've already lost my right leg due to this disease, my left foot is in stage 3 of Charcot then when time hits, I will lose that limb too. Charcot is where the bones in your feet start breaking apart, arch collapse, ankles shatter, then joints get infected, it is very painful and I refuse to be in pain. Along with phantom pain. I am fighting disability now, and have to pay cash for all my meds. I really have no problem getting my oxycodone filled, but my oxymorphone is a different story. Especially Walgreen's, they treat me like a pill junkie because of medications I am on. I was refused one time at a Walgreens Pharmacy in TN to fill my oxycodone because I had no insurance, and that was when I got released from hospital after my amputation, and pharmacist seen I had lost my limb and knew why I was prescribed that. So I use Rite Aid. Now my oxymorphone er is so hard to get filled cause a lot of doctors prescribe them to patients that really don't need them. So I have to use Walgreens Pharmacy in another county, and I worry each month how they are gonna treat me, cause they are usually rude and judge me. Last month, they told me they were out of stock, and this was the first time in 9 months they told me they were out, luckily I was able to find a pharmacy that had in stock and seen my conditions and codes for reason I am prescribed, only thing is it cost me $507 to get filled. So this month I go to the same Walgreens Pharmacy I go to each month, they looked at script then looked at me and told me they were out. Now I asked to speak to pharmacist and asked her for help in finding another Walgreens Pharmacy that would have in stock cause no pharmacy will tell a customer if they have this medication in stock.

The lady looked at me and said "no I am not calling no where" I explained to her, that I follow their good faith policy, and policy on this medication, that states on Walgreens website "DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING THIS MEDICATION, OBTAIN A REFILL 2 DAYS BEFORE RUNNING OUT". I told her I already miss my morning dose, because Walgreens will not fill it on the 29th day like most pharmacies do. So I asked her what am I suppose to do? She said not her problem and told me to leave. I was polite with her, and for her to treat me like that, I explained to her, that I am no junkie and told her that I don't want to be on pain meds for life, but I will be on this till I have my amputation. As a customer, u shouldn't have to worry how u going to be treated when u take your pain script in to get filled. So I left, and I called my doctor, she called up there, and pharmacist that was there told my Dr that they had it in stock, because when I was put on this medication, my Dr had me locked in that certain Walgreens for this medication so I wouldn't have trouble finding a pharmacy. My Dr was so upset and told the pharmacist that was there what I was told, the pharmacist that told me to leave had just got off work and 2nd shift pharmacist was there. So he told my Dr to have me come back up there and he will fill it. I live almost an hour away. So for pharmacist who say they try to help, whatever, I was judged. When I went back he could tell I was upset, but I didn't lose my temper, I said I was a victim of slander. And these pharmacist only knew how u feel when u hurt from pain, of course I had a little WD, but I take as directed, and have never tried to get filled early, and I DON'T like to pharmacy hunt. So I called the Rite Aid pharmacy I use for my other medications and they agreed they will order my oxymorphone for me each month so I won't be treated like I was at Walgreens. And filling a complaint against Walgreens does no good, cause they got so many complaints on them. All this comes down too is, it is hard for people who are in pain to get their meds because of those who go to pill mills for a high, hate me if ya want...

A lot of the VA drs are reducing and cutting their pain patients off of pain meds beause of the high number of OD's. Many Vets are having to go to pain management drs in the private sector.

I live in Port St Lucie, FL and have been prescribed Oxycontin 60mg for a couple years now and every month it's a crap-shoot whether or not the pharmacy will have them. I probably have maybe another two or three years to live (if that) and anyone who has seen me can tell I'm in great pain and have severe neurological problems (I also have Parkinson's Disease that is in rapid decline). Needless to say my pharmacy has told me (CVS) they make every effort to keep this pain med in stock for me very month and honestly speaking, they normally DO have it in stock. They are very nice to me because I am always pleasant with them and they can see I am a legitimate pain medication user and probably don't have long to live as it is but that's where the nice part of this story ends.

When they don't have the meds in stock, like TODAY, they are very apologetic but in the end you are forced to drive aimlessly around the tri-county area looking for DRUGS, which really makes you feel like you've been completely forgotten as a patient and a human being. I have not been able to drive a few years now because Parkinson's has robbed me of many normal abilities. Therefore I must rely on family to help me do things like this.

As I write this, my wife is driving around trying to find a pharmacy that has my medication but it wasn't until it happened to me that I saw just how screwed up the laws are for legitimate pain med users like myself. For instance, my wife found a local Walgreens that actually had the meds in stock but they wouldn't fill it because it's Sunday and my doctors office is closed. Just where did THIS come from? It used to be is you had a legitimate Rx they would fill the damn thing and that was that. Ironically my regular pharmacy, CVS, actually had *some* of my Rx in stock, just not the whole thing but it seems some lawmaker made a law that now say's, regarding pain meds, if you get a "partial fill" of your Rx you can't just simply pick up the rest when the pharmacy gets more yet you CAN still do this for other non-pain meds. Again, where the hell did THIS come from and *why* would they even adopt such a policy? It's as if lawmakers said to each other, "What can we come up with to make pain medication prescriptions as difficult a process as possible so it targets both the drug seekers AND legitimate users alike", and THIS is what they came up with, but *WHY*? Apparently these clowns decided to compromise all legit pain patients out there all for the sake of catching SOME illegal drug users. It wasn't until I began to have to go from pharmacy to pharmacy to PHARMACY that I realized these pharmacists and pharma-techs were all looking at me like I'm a dirty drug seeker or something. The funny thing is that's exactly what we are now and THEY turned us into it. Only difference is we have a legitimate need for our medication(s) but strangely this process of trying to catch and prevent the "bad guys" from having these meds have made even legit users go without our much-needed medicine. By the way, my wife just texted me to say she finally found a CVS pharmacy that has my meds and they're now filling it but sadly it's taken her literally HOURS of aimlessly driving around a THREE-COUNTY area! She had to visit nearly twenty pharmacies consisting of CVS and Walgreens, and lemme tell you, when it comes to pain med dispensing Walgreens is THE absolute WORST pharmacy on the planet.

The last time CVS couldn't fill my Rx because of low stock I went across the street to Walgreens and some twenty-something year old pharmacist boy outright told me "I wouldn't with good conscience fill this Rx". When I asked him to clarify this he refused to say anything further and just stated he wouldn't fill it - that's all he would say and that was that. Bear in mind I have Parkinson's Disease and have a right hand tremor, slurred speech and walk/shuffle using a cane so I'm not exactly sure how this kid determined it was in his best interests to refuse a prescription from a well-known, legit doctors office all of ONE mile away. I wrote a letter to Walgreen's headquarters and sent it certified mail and do you know what I got in response? N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Clearly Walgreens could care less if their pharmacists don't fill even legitimate prescriptions because if you complain or express concern as to why a pain Rx wasn't filled then as far as they're concerned you're just a drug seeking addict. Seems Walgreens has taken the position that their pharmacists can refuse to fill any and all Rx's with absolute impunity and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it because even Walgreens home office doesn't care how you get treated and what their pharmacists say to you. They can and DO treat people like dirt every day and Walgreens simply does-not-care. End of story.

I just don't get it. For the life of me I don't understand how this country can ignore legitimate pain sufferers all so they can prevent some pill addicts from getting the meds WE'RE suppose to be getting. I mean, that's great and all they're trying to keep pills out of the wrong hands but this effort is wreaking havoc on real pain patients, and it's crystal clear they could absolutely CARE LESS about us.... just so long as they bag a few addicts in the process is all that really matters to these i****s. How can these clowns justify making the process of getting a legitimate prescription filled SO difficult merely because *some* people abuse them? All the focus seems to focus on helping law-breakers with very little directed at those of us who actually NEED these medications.

Very sorry for my ultra-long post but this issue REALLY pisses me off and I have had to go without medication in the past just because lawmakers cater to law-breakers when it should be the other way around

Walgreens is a joke. I have to go to a Walgreens on the other side of town because the one across the street from me has a limit on the amount they will feel. Thankfully, the pharmacist at this one doesn't enforce the 5 mile limit restriction on me. Not only does each store have a different policy, every pharmacist has a different policy.

The worst seems to be these young pharmacist fresh out of school who must be getting brainwashed to look at every patient skeptically as a drug dealer. Every time my regular pharmacist is gone one of these young fill-ins has an excuse for why s/he can't fill it right now. People need to start boycotting Walgreens for all their shopping needs until they get their act together.

I just don't get it. I was supposed to fill my Oxycodone 10/325 prescription 7 days ago but nobody has them in stock, or, they have them but not the entire amount I need. I can agree to have them fill what they have but you can't just come back later on and pick up the rest when they get them in because some genius decided to change things and now you can no longer do that, which means you will forfeit the remainder if you choose to do this, yet other non-pain medications are NOT this way.

Again, I just don't get it. I have a legit doctor with a legit Rx and I go to a legit pharmacy yet they still treat you like a dirtbag druggie.

I'm in so much pain now but can't fill my legit Rx because nobody has Oxycodone in my area? NOBODY? And who the hell establishes these whacky rules and why does it negatively affect legitimate pain sufferers? I swear, I just don't get it. I really don't.

I'm in such pain right now and to make matters worse I'm also in withdrawal so it's twice as bad. I just don't think I can hang on much longer and I know what I may have to do to stop the pain but it isn't pretty but at this point I just don't know that I have a choice anymore. I really don't want to be alive anymore if THIS is how I'm gonna be treated from hereon. I'm so GD tired of this and I've just about given up. I'll give it another few days but I just can't go on like this and I've just about made my mind up at this point what I have to do.

This is crazy, Federal Lalw allows for you getting the rest if the rx within 72 hrs. But, your state may be different, so check your state laws. The reason the pharmacists usually tell patients they can't get the difference is because there is no guarantee the meds will be in within 72 hrs.

Hi, try the purdue program. I was in several car accidents that were not my fault, all drunk drivers; I could fill the percocets; but as the years went by and i got into two more accidents; I had more injuries to my neck and back my doctor put me on stronger medication. I had alot of troubles filling my scripts until a friend told me about Purdue Patient Assistance Program; its a lifesaver; for one the medication is free; for two they mail it to me fed ex; so talk to your doctor about it and good luck!

This is what they are doing to save "the drug addicts" real pain sufferers will be euthanized by suicide. We need to SCREAM OUT and REVOLT. If Martin Luther King could go against nasty racist cops, then we should stand against the DEA and STAND NOW. They can't stop ALL of US

Where I live here in Florida every pharmacy I have dealt with has told me outright they can't simply give me what they have and then make up the difference when they get the rest in. There's never been any mention of any time period (ie: 72 hours). The have all told me straight-up "We can't do that". I know they used to do it but that was years ago when I was prescribed Hydrocodone, back before the days of CVS when Eckerd Drugs was in business... now THAT was a great company to deal with in terms of pharmacy issues. Today things are very different and these pharma's simply don't care.

My son was able to get my Oxycodone 10/325 filled today, almost two weeks late. CVS actually called me to state they finally received their shipment. They stated they aren't supposed to do this but they called me only because they know how sick I am and I have always had a great relationship with them but sadly they're not supposed to help people out like that with even a simple phone call. The pharmacist told my son their pain med shipment was late because someone in their regional warehouse did something that caused all area pharmacies to be delayed. As grateful as I am for their honesty, someone's head should ROLL for this because someone's carelessness has caused all kinds of pain & suffering in my area. I also emailed the manufacturer of this pain medication, Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals (never heard of them before - I think they're Indian), and they responded with the following reply:

"Thank you for contacting Aurobindo Pharma USA. We understand and apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing in trying to obtain our products. We did experience a manufacturing delay on this product but I am happy to report that we are preparing to ship this product next week to a wholesaler near you. Below I have listed the wholesaler. We can suggest that you contact them for further pharmacy level information." - The wholesaler they referenced is AMERISOURCEBERGEN CORPORATION in Orlando, FL.

So not only did CVS's regional shipping department screw things up, the manufacturer also experienced some type of "delay" as well, which hasn't helped any of us in my area. Add to that the DEA's incessant need to dedicate all their efforts of would-be preventing pill abusers and you have a recipe for total failure of the pain med dispensing infrastructure as we know it.

I'm just relieved to finally get my GD meds after going without nearly TWO WEEKS. I'm just worried about *next month* now.
