Fentanyl Unbearable Tingling Sensation Along Forearm Side Effect?
(Newest replies first)

I am only 19 and have has a disc protrusion. I have been prescribed fentanyl patches 50mcg/hour but after using them twice (6days) I felt terrible with a lot of sweating and shaking and vomiting. I thing cut down to the 25mcg/hour and have felt better usually but have started to wake up during the night with an intense tingling sensation that feels like it's from inside my forearms and it is unbearable, it lasts up to 7 hours. Is this a side effect from the fentanyl? And how to do stop it? Do I stop wearing the patches? Because I can not handle to feeling down my arms. Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you

My Goodness!! 19? On Fentanyl? Are you opiod tolerant? You are so young Honey and I' m sorry you are in this much pain to warrant Fentanyl Patches!
Definitely believe your Dr. I also had problems with my thyroid and had no clue, I now take Levoxyl with a cessation of the symptoms you describe. I have residual diabetic neuropathy and just assumed it was that condition so really did not deem it worth mentioning until it got do severe, the good news is that it is easily and very inexpensively controlled by medicine. Going into surgery you got dome great advice to titrate your fentanyl down as much as possible because you will get much better pain control post surgery, and just be very honest with surgeon and Dr. Of course, it sounds as if you have a very competent physician, hold onto them like your best friend, they are hard to find!! I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery. It is very good that you are on top of your sensations, and perhaps the fent. Was masking that pain at higher doses, occasionally as I went up in fentanyl, I would opt out of breakthrough meds, or even just wait longer to increase than was comfortable just to see where my pain level was truly at, and to be sure with my many other health problems were not being covered by my meds. Thank you for the added information, it certainly makes sense now. I know it can become tiresome to explain with a lengthy Med. History, all the best, will be thinking of you and let us know how you make out!!!
I got bloods done last week and have found that I have significantly raised thyroid antibodies with elevated TSH. With TSH coming down at 9.4
My doc said this might contribute to the tingling feeling ??
Hi sorry original post did not have very much information. Originally I was prescribed tramadol to take as when the pain occurred and as time went on ( about 3 months ) I was needing to take 3 pills (50mg) 3 times daily which still did not effectivly stop the pain so my doctor prescribed fentayl. I started on the 25s for 72hrs then moved upto the 50. After using the patches for 6 days I was feeling ill and my doctor advised me to cut the patches in half. I have been doing this for about a month now and still get that tingling sensation down my arms around every three days. This pain is ALOT more troubling than my initial pain as I can not stop it. I feel great during the rest of the time, the pain from my back is nearly completely gone. I have my surgery next week and have been advised to tapper off the dosage, I have been given 25s with decreasing dosage. How low of a dosage should I be before I stop completely?
Thanks for the replies
I have never had this but I do know that sometimes pain is interpreted by the brain by cold or hot sensations, or even touching as pain . I'd def. Inform doc
Is this more troubling than your original pain? Are you saying that you started at 50??? Very unusual
In my experience. I started at 12.5 , the vomiting may signal too much medicine. Please be careful, you were only prescribed 2 patches? With? the ability to request 25's at will?? This all sounds very strange, is the dr. Dispensing at his office or pharmacy?
Hello, Sav! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having.
Did you cut the 50mcg patches in half, or did you pick up new ones in the 25mcg dose?
And how long have you been using them, now? Some side effects may take a few weeks to wear off, while your body is getting used to the medication.
Have you consulted your doctor?
