Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms (Page 30) (Top voted first)

Updated

I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.

Hi nuttynanny
Hope ur doing well. This site is very therapeutic for me. I'm now trying to exercise and starting off slow. I hope ur feeling better. I kept a few patches just to remind me the hell I went through. Keep in touch with your progress. I'll do the same.

It's going on three weeks Fentanyl free. I finally got back to work and missed two days of my first week due to symptoms. I'm still dealing with anxiety and nausea. I had to get a sleeping pill to be able to sleep at night and that is helping me make it through the work day. The first week back, I was so exhausted from tossing and turning all night. I hate this. I want my life back.

Hi Etienne did you wean yourself off fentanyl or did you just stop using the patch? I had to go it alone because my neurologist put me on azathiprine for nerve pain. However, he forgot that the two react together and cause a massive increase in the fentanyl strength. I turned into a zombie. It took four GP's to decide what was wrong with me. They took 10 blood samples and even did blood cultures because no-one could decide what was happening.
I am 22 days now without this terrible drug but still getting withdrawal symptoms how long will it take to clear my head. I feel so exhausted and can't do anything for myself. I am so glad you have made it. Please please everyone stay away from this drug its evil.

Hi Hazel
I stopped cold turkey. I too was a zombie. The first day I put on that patch I couldn't sleep that night. The next day all I did was sleep sometimes for 14 hours and then I was still tired. I also went to my doctors to find out what was wrong. I had blood test and I was told my testorone level was low but normal. He wanted to put me on another drug and this time I was smart and read thr side effects. I declined and he actually got upset with me because I decided no more drugs on top of drugs. Then he wanted to increase the fentynal patch and I said no. I was itching, tired, constipated I felt like a zombie and irritable, I was forgetful and I had thoughts of suicide all the time. I'm happy for you and that makes me feel good that others are getting off this too.

I'm so proud of everyone that has got off this patch. It is evil. Even with me taking Suboxone three times a day, I am going through some withdrawal and it's not an easy thing to do. This patch sould be banned except for the people that are terminal and don't have to worry about pain the last days of their lives. They do deserve that. I was once terminal but through God and a good support system and doctors, I can now say I see the end of the tunnel. I have been told that I'm in remission. PRAISE THE LORD UP ABOVE!!!!! for many years I have battled cancer along with very many surgeries and alot of pain. I am 57 years old but move around like I'm 90. But I am going to live some more years then they first thought and clean of these patches.....Gosh, I feel good today. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS GONE DOWN THIS ROAD....IT GETS EASIES EVERY DAY THAT PASSES. AND A BIG THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT HAVE SHARED WHEN COMING OFF THESE PATCHES....I HONOR YOU....

I am going to have to dissagree with your coment of taking this drug off the market. In the several months before and several after my surgery this drug kept me human and kept me from killing myself from the extreme pain. It was not prescribed lightly and without it I would not have been able to function before surgery and after, it got me through all the physical therapy. I am now more than 50% better and know I can make it on a much lighter pain killer. HOWEVER, getting off it is worse than weening someone off of antidepressants. The aches and pains I thought were from the nerve damage and as for the achy back, well I did not know it was withdrawl until a girlfriend told me. It was and is unlike anything I had ever experienced. I am sure I will get through this, however I am a bit scared. I am down from 100mg to 12mg over 2 months and as of tomorrow I wont even be taking that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW, the Doctor that prescribed it for that lady to get off of percecet? Is wrong. I think she missunderstood his intentions as she was taking 8 a day and it was not working sop her pain must have been really bad. If someone has not experienced extreme chronic pain then they could not understand. If properly diagnosed then there is no "high" just normalcy (sp CK) if you feel high? then the dose is to high and needs to be lowered.

"taking this patch of the market except for the terminal" I know that taking this off the market is goiing to hurt some people but you need to understand that this is a extremely dangerous medication if taken different than what is instucted. I have had many people that I know die from this patch because they misused it and it didn't take much to do this. This is only my opinion and I am glad that it helped you. It helped me very much when I was on it also but when I became tolerant to the med that is in the patch then I had to have more and when I had more then my body came use to the med and I hurt worse. When I came off the patch the first time and was clean for years I knew that I did not need as much as I was taking because of the tolerance. Also, the people that died was not addicts, they were everyday people and worked and had famlies. One of the people was a 16 year old that didn't use the patch as instructed. I'm sorry that these people died and if they were gave something other than the patch they may still be alive today. Just my opinion though. I am glad that you are doing better and your surgery went well. Hope you continue to do good and if I can help you in any way, Just ask.....Thanks

im on fentalyl for 8years now and when the time comes to get off of it forever im going to a hospital detox so they can give me drugs so i detox in my sleep when i awake ill be fentanyl free it cost out of my pocket 2500 per day but it is what is needed to get off the fentanyl nightmare of hell warming over im pack into a pain centr and getting the help i need after ruiening my credit and running up large emergency room bills that ill lose my house over ,worry stress those things im told to stay away from will haunt me till death which i feel isn't that far off now that i have read some of these posts and feel the same way fentanyl is a hard chemical to get away from and it shouldn't be so hard to get off they put me on it in the blink of the eye and let me figgure out what to do to get off it and when and how to suffer thru it all nice , doctors in this world have not cured any diseases or lessoned anyones real pain with fentanyl so it should be regulated a lot more and people taught how it works and what it does to you as for me i feel my dr should be sued for neglecting to tell me how bad it was to get away from the deadly grips of fentanyl it certainly goes against their motto of (First do no Harm) Harm me they did by handing me the fentanyl pain patch then offer me lolipops of the same s*** a crime has been commited in my case and i intend to follow up if i don't die first

I agree nuttynanny. It shouldn't be off the market. We as users have to ask more questions and read up on this stuff b4 we get it. Doctors will prescribe anything if it will help your pain but they seem reluctant to tell anyone how addictive and strong this little patch is. It sucks that we have to be in pain and be aware at the same time. I guess we'll try anything if it helps.
Has anyone heard of "precise"? It's a Tylenol patch.
I'm at the point where I'll trust u guys b4 I'll trust a doctor when it comes to pills. If u could see my medicine cabinet u would think I was a pharmacist.
But thus Saturday it's time to get rid of most.
The combinations of a lot of drugs could be fatal. I know 3 people who died from mixing multiple drugs.
Scary.

I've been on Fentanyl 25 mcg for a 18 months and have been taking 3-4 percocets a day. At first I thought the patch was excellent. I no longer had to take my break through medication and had energy, but that was short lived. Now I find myself needing the percocet every day and feel tired and disinterested in everything. I have recently lost my job which in turn lost my insurance so I figure right now is the best time to get off the patch. I take the Mylan brand and have thought about cutting them in half and ween myself down. I have a doctors appointment in March where I am afraid to express to my doctor that I want to ween myself off but last time I expressed not wanting to be a slave to pain medication for the rest of my life she told me I need it right now. I am wondering if anyone has been on the same type of cocktail and thinking of stopping cold turkey off patch (48 hours) and just take my percocet until my body gets rid of the fentanyl and then weening myself off the percocet. Has anybody done this? Do you think that this help reduce withdrawls significantly from the patch? I don't have the money to go and buy more pain meds due to no insurance and want to try to go cold turkey all together if at all possible. Any suggestions?

Hey Joe, I know what your going through. My pain doctor told me that if I wanted off the patch that I would be dismissed from his clinic and I knew then that I was going to come off the patch.(What if he dismissed me first?) I was on the patch for over a year(75mg) and also taking 30 mg oxycodone for break-through pain. I had the doctor reduce my oxy's to 15mg because of my blood-pressure staying high. Then I felt that I needed to be off the patch because of going through withdrawals when the drug store was closed and i had to wait several days to get my patches refilled. When I started going through the withdrawals I knew that this drug was something I did not want to be on. I was having withdrawals in just this amount of time. I thought I was going to die and tried to take just the oxy's. I ended up taking the oxy's in a matter of a week and several days, so I was going through double withdrawals, the patch and the oxy's. I finally went to a doctor that helped me. He started me on Suboxone and it took just a couple of days to get back to feeling normal. Now I have to wonder if I will have withdrawals from the Suboxone when I want to quit taking it. I don't know if you have a doctor that will help you with this or not but it's better then going through sheer h*ll for weeks on end. I know that there will be people that disagree with taking the Suboxone but I was really going crazy. Hope you don't have to go down this road by yourself and without some kind of help. The withdrawals won't kill you but you will be sick....(Oh, I didn't let my pain doctor know that I came off the patch just in case I couldn't handle it. That way if this don't work then I can go back to the drawing room..)

Hey Joe,
I was I on percocet before. I started with one pill a day and before you know it I was taking 9 a day. Your body gets use to it real quick. Same with the patch. Cold turkey can be tough because of the side effects. When I got off the patch I went through hell but I did it cold turkey. If u try that try getting off the patch and using a 1/2 of the percocet when the withdrawals get too harsh then taper off the percocet. Keep reading other sites as well and get other opinions. Doctors have attitude when you try to help yourself. I don't know when they think they became God.

Did taking your oxys help with your withdrawals when you were detoxying yourself from the fentanyl? I know I am gonna have some type of withdrawal but if I can get past some of the pure agony for a few days/week then ween down off my percs then I will hopefully be ok.

Joe, When I came off the patches I had 90, 15mg oxy's and I tried to use them to wean myself off the patches and that didn't work for me. I just did not have the will power to keep from taking all the oxy's to keep from hurting. When you come off something as strong as Fentanyl, the lower amount of narcotics will not help with the withdrawals of the patch. It tells on some of the other web-sites just how strong the Fentanyl is in the patches and this just stuns me that people can walk around and not be a zombie. I was a walking zombie and didn't know it until I came off the patches. I didn't sleep much the first week and went from throwing up to sitting on the commode and running a 104% temp. and my legs would not quit hurting. I had zanaflex, klonipin, and clonidine to take with the oxy's. I also forced myself to drink alot of fluids and also had zofran and phenergan for nausea. I took this about a week and then I call a doctor to help me. Thats when I started taking Suboxone. I'm just not very strong when it comes to pain or hurting. I hope you do well when you come off this and if you need to talk, I will not be far.
Etienne, I am so glad you are doing good. You helped me when I was going through this by reading what you did to make it. Hope you continue to do good...
I wish I was as strong as some of the people that are on this site. I'm not a very strong person and don't have the will power to take the meds like other people and I have to keep telling myself this everyday or I will be back on the patch and the pills. I have become addicted to them so the best thing for me is to stay away from them. I guess with having and fighting with 3 different kinds of cancer, and having 19 operations to prolong my life is what helped me become like this.
Good luck....
