Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms (Page 22)

I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.
It's the development of "restless leg syndrome," something I had for nearly two decades before being exposed to spinal injuries and opiate therapy. There is really no "escaping" withdrawal... you just need to get as low as you can, then... jump off the cliff, be sick for a week... and move on with your life... says someone who presents it as... simple. It's not.
I seriously recommend trying to use pot to treat your pain. Its very benficial when used properly and you'll never again experience that horrible feeling of Fentanyl. I am coming off of it right now, and the pot helps with the symptoms too! It gives me an apetite, lets me sleep, and I can go about my very busy day in comfort with a few tokes in the am and a few before bed.
I am now in day 5 from detoxing off fentanyl 75 I am feeling a lot better then the first 3 days they were HELL! I was on it for a year and I hated it. It seems that I was in more pain when on the medication. My symptoms were PAIN EVERYWHERE, sweating, sick stomach, could not sleep, I might have slept a total of 8hrs in 3 day's. I did it cold turky and it really sucked!! So my advice to you don't do it alone. The reason I did it cold turky insurance was not interested in helping me get off the s***. They said the doctors say you need back surgery again we don,t think it's a good idea. FIND A WAY TO GET OFF THE S***!!
Hi Tom,
I am here for you. We contact in code. So here goes, we will see if this makes it so you can chat any time with me. When I was four, I had lived with my grandparents since one to four years. At seven, we moved. I wished I was one again. Nine was a hard year in school as opposed to seven. That year my newborn brother arrived. I guess starting at zero knowledge of the world is tough. My eighty-five year old grandmother died that year also.
I am Fentanyl free now for over two weeks. Starting out you still have some drug in your system so things are a little shaky but I want you to dig deep, Tom. Believe me when I say you CAN and WILL succeed!
First, tomorrow, you need to call your doc and ask for some CLONIDINE HCL 0.1 mg. Here is the scoop. You and I are jonesing. That is an official medical term. In 1790, a Dr. Jones was the Royal Court physician to the British throne. Most of the court were opium addicts. That is was you and I are, Tom. Anyway, Dr. Jones wrote the first dissertation on opium withdrawal. Therefore, in his honor, when you are withdrawing from an opiate like Fentanyl you are jonesing. Had enough history?
None of my docs knew what to do with me. They had never had anyone go CT. Finally my shrink, God bless him, saved you and me. Clonidine is a blood pressure medication which they have found helps opium addicts with their withdrawals. Honest, get it. Please.
Next, stay as busy as possible. DO NOT VEG. Lift weights til your arms are going to fall off, run, walk, clean, build...whatever. Call someone the minute you think you feel odd. be with people.
I have lots of info I will feed you.
Know this: THAT DRUG HAS RUINED YOUR LIFE FOR 10 YEARS.
MAN UP.
STOP.
THERE IS NO GOING BACK.
BACK IS DEATH.
I HAVE YOUR BACK.
hey angel my name is "TJ" I am on my first day of tapering off fentanyl 100 I have been on them for more then 10 years now. I am tired of all the side affects witch I am sure you know all about, sweeting, lost relationships, so on and so on. I was changing my patch every 2 days because the pain was so bad, but now the side affects are more then the patch is helping me. My dr. doesn't know I am doing this all he wants is to sell me the drugs. I was given patches in 100's 75's 50's and 25's 12's so I can use them that I have to tapper off. I am sure the days will get worse as I go on but I need to do this. I have met a very special gal and I know the side affects of the drug is causing me to lose her, so I will do this no matter what it takes.
what I am asking you is for support and I would like it if you could tell me what I am going to go through before it happens lol if that's possible. I live alone, did you have someone to help you quit the patch ?
Hey- HANG IN THERE... I just went of my last patch on Friday... luckily I have short acting opiates to wean off slowly now, but since it sounds like you don't, other things that help me and are approved by my team are Benedryl (similar to a drug they use to help with w/drawal... has a calming effect). Massage helps me a LOT... I know it's expensive, I pay a family member who needs money, but it's cheaper than a masseuse, which works out good, and it also puts me to sleep at night. Give yourself SHORT goals... like making it to a certain hour and giving yourself a treat, or lining up a bunch of activities, or friends that can keep you distracted through entertainment or exercise. Exercise and lots of water (along with massage), might help you move stuff out of your system, and keep the endorphins high as well. I know I have a harder time making it when I'm still and thinking about how bad I'm feeling. You can write me if you need someone to talk to- I have done the cold turkey thing and I KNOW KNOW KNOW what agony it is. You are a warrior, it will get better. Your body is strong. Good luck. PS. Give your body all the nutrition and support it needs too!
So, yesterday I was on the pulpit.
Today, I'm a whimpering mass of misery. Day 13 sucks the big one. My brain is screaming at me with every heart beat, "Give me the drug." Not one system is working well and I can hardly stand I am so weak. Yah, yah.... it's suppose to get better every day. Lies. No one knows how this drug works in the first place. Read the insert. How can they say what happens when you suddenly withdraw?
Every minute I suffer, my will power becomes stronger and my hatred of that drug and it's tentacles into my entire life are solidified.
I now own myself. not the patch. never never never again.
But I need help.
Will you please write me. Talk to me. Tell me your story. I so badly need you.
I feel so alone and lost. my mind is confused.
Please?
Greeting!
One year ago I posted to this forum routinely on all the subjects we know so well: pain, Fentanyl patches, doses, how to obtain the prescription, withdrawal, insurance, new legislation, side effects and the one great debate. The great debate always was, will be and is today: should I be on this medication?
I have spinal RA, Fibromyalgia and Lupus. Eight years ago a 75 mcg Fentanyl patch was slapped on me. For eight years, every 72 hours, I have slapped another on.
Until 11 days ago.... I went CT.
I believe every person has the right to be pain free.
BUT
FENTANYL has robbed me of eight years of life.
A recent report in the U.K. published that it was harder to withdraw from Fentanyl than H or cocaine; although Fentanyl does not leave the permanent damage that the latter two drugs do to the body.
For the last eight years I have been in bed. Yes, really..... in the bed staring at the same wall too drugged to get up and take care of myself, my house or live my life.
Ask yourself this? Are you pain free? I'll bet the answer is a negative.
I truly believed I could not survive without the patch. I blogged here for over 18 months daily. I am going to use a different name now. But some enterprising person could easily figure out by my style of writing who I am.
Here is the truth: you are a junkie on Fentanyl addicted to a powerful opiate. There are some batches of the patches that have been tampered with and some of the active drug has been removed. When you put one on and get no relief, you found a tampered patch. Legislation, like Bill One, is being pushed by someone. Fentanyl is going to become harder and harder to procure. Your body will want more drug to give you the same relief over time. The hole you are falling into is long and dark.
Please, think.
Thanks for listening.
I to suffer from back and neck pain!! Failed surgery in 2004. I was on per. Somoma and 50 mcg fental patch! Went off pec. @ somoma a month then cold turkey patch !!! Was hell!!! But now I'm on sub. Only take a sliver about 1/2 of mg for pain and dealing w pain

Wow... just read through the most recent posts, but all I have to say is that everyone is different. Responding to the original post, I was just hoping to find others who described the "restlessness" the poster did, of needing to rock back and forth all the time- but the closest way I can describe it is like being suffocated to death, but not through your lungs, its that feeling but in all of your nerves and tissues.
It's nice to hear that others are not so bad, but I REALLY hope that people that are running out of money/insurance to cover their meds do NOT do it alone. I know there are places that will help, and at the very least whoever is prescribing the meds right now can give you a few drugs that will make the withdrawal easier. Some people and with some medications you can have heart or seizure issues by cold turkey-ing high doses (I'm NOT a health care professional, just picked this up through some research), so if you can, call around there are people to help even if you don't have many resources. If worse comes to worse, my pharmacist told me I could try benedryl for some light symptoms if the withdrawal was not bad at the first drop.
I noticed a lot of restless leg symptoms... anyone have ARM and upper body issues? Also, since being on medication, if my legs are rubbed superficially across my skin, or sometimes if I dip my feet in very cold water, it triggers an reaction in the nerves of my upper body. I was afraid that having to go cold turkey in the past of other opiates may have caused an issue in the nerves, but it could be something else.
HANG IN THERE EVERYBODY!!! Everyone is different, and everything takes a different amount of time. I have also been told my withdrawals shouldn't be lasting as long as they did this time-two weeks of the bad stuff, then this similar discomfort in my nerves that hasn't yet faded after a month- which seems to have been exposed now that I'm down at 12 mcg (but which I would also call w/draw. because it gets better when I take my percocet).
Thanks for sharing.
Yes, the restlessness you are feeling is absolutely a symptom of fentanyl withdrawal. Ask your Dr. for something to help with anxiety...it will make a world of difference. Valium or one like it. Just be sparing about taking it for too long. You don't want to trade one addiction for another, and I've heard benzo withdrawal is horrible!
I'm off 50 fental patch now it was he'll but I did it!!! I have chronic back and neck pain!! Had surgery in 04...and on disability !! Nerve damage!! Have to be on something !! Going for shots to see if that works!! Fental patch is the devil!!i would never go on that again!!! Feel better off it!! My mind and soul are back
Oh yes!! That's the worst part for me. But it gets better!
Please, anyone who wants to get off of fentanyl, it CAN be done, amd there is hope! :)
I was on fentanyl/opiates for 6 years. I was prescribed 50mcg every 48 hours, but this year I started abusing them, and was using anywhere between 3-8 patches a day....I should be dead.
I took myself to the local detox center June 28th, 2013 and have been clean since.
The only medication I took was Imodium.
Day 1 sucked for me, but it was mainly my legs.
Honestly, being around people was AMAZING!! IT SAVED MY LIFE!
We made each other laugh, which made withdrawls manageable.
Now I go to NA meetings, once a day, twice if I need to.
You can do this! Stay positive!! :)
Is restless leg and sweats a part of wdrall
K9 mom
How is that working for you??
You are right the stress of going off patch and anxiety ... I got Valium helped big time
