Felodipine - Effect Of Ambient Temperature

My BP has been well controlled in the UK on 10mg daily +a diuretic.

However, after coming to Florida on vacation where temps have been around 80-90+ degrees I felt terrible after playing golf despite taking a large intake of water and salts during the round. On arriving back 'home' I checked my BP which was 90/58! I found I had to reduce my Felodipine to 2.5mg and stop the diuretic because even sitting out in the sun for an hour dropped my BP.

I am a retired doctor and had never seen or read about this effect though when considering Feloipines mode of action it seems logical though I agree these observations could lead to a teleological conclusion. However, I felt other users should be aware ofthem. Stopping the diuretic (indapamide) alone had no effect.

I am very sorry about the problem you had.

However, heat does lower blood pressure, due to the affect it has on your blood while it's circulating through the body. One of the first things my cardiologist warned me about was that I may experience sudden drops, during high temperature days, or if I soaked in a hot tub for awhile, so I would need to be careful.

So, it really does make sense that this would happen with high temps and long time periods in the sun.

How are you feeling, now?
