False Positive For Suboxone (Top voted first)
UpdatedHi, I currently take the following meds;
percocet 10/325 (3x day)
neurontin 300mg (3x day)
mobic 7.5mg (2x day)
prevacid 40mg (1x day)
klonopin 1mg (as needed, usually 3 per week as much as 1 per day)
lisinopril 40mg (1x day)
atenolol 50mg (2x day)
I also take several vitamin supplements (multivitamin, milk thistle, vitamin B12, vitamin e). My doc drug tested me and said the test showed I had ingested suboxone which I had NOT. I told her that I had no reason to take that b/c it is my understanding it would be counterproductive to the pain medication anyway. Has anyone heard of false positives for this drug? The Doc was very cool about it and said it could be a false positive or I could be lying but she wasn't angry. I am a white male about 40 with hbp, severe back and leg problems.
Thanks for your input

I recently tested positive for Soboxone even though I had NOT ingested it @ ANYTIME. I currently am taking the following meds: Omeprazole, Zanaflex, Zonegran, Verapamil, Marinol, Oxycodone, Lexapro, Valium, Ambien, & Adderall. Plus the following Inhalers: Ventolin, Spiriva, & Symbicort. So does anyone have a clue how this happened to me???
i am so glad i read your problem because i to am on oxycodone and have never taken it but just tested positive for it and was kicked out of the program and lost my meds.now i have a weeks worth left and dont know what to do
I just tested postive for this medication I didn't even know what it was. I been reading up on it all say cause I'm wondering how could it be. But reading a couple people post I see we take the same kind of medication. So I know now it was a false postive. Cause I was thinking the doctors mixed my urine up with some one else.
Never heard of such an occurrence. It sounds like a false positive because I see that you use percocet and gabapentin for pain and those active ingredients are different than the active ingredients of suboxone. Percocets active ingredients are oxycodone and acetaminophen whereas the active ingredients in suboxone are buprenorphine and naloxone. I would attempt another test with your physician after a short time and see if the results are comparable to the previous one
Your doctor was right and it was probably a false positive.
Regular doctors aren't required to use the certified drug tests, so they are free to go with the tests provided by the cheapest bidder and this can result in false positives anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.
It is well known that any synthetic or semi-synthetic narcotic, such as the Oxycodone in your Percocet may cause a false positive for another synthetic, or semi-synthetic opiate, such as the Buprenorphine in the Suboxone.
I am sure you doctor is aware of this, which is why they didn't freak out about it.

Are there any other questions or comments?
Thanks, I just wanted to hear if the same or similar thing has happened to others and what the outcome was.
I just thought of a couple things. I have horrible allergies, nasal congestion (contstantly) and general hay fever symptoms year round. I am always taking benedryl, using oxymetazoline nose spray and a combo of triprolidine and pseudoephedrine hci (ALL three otc and the cheapest brand possible. I hope this helps because I am concerned. I dont want to be considered a liar by my Doc even if she was ok the 1st time if it happens again then Im sure it wont go over so well. You know how that can go, if you are in pain management you have probably been looked at or talked down to at least one time or another like some type of dope phene. I have never had that problem with this Doctor or any of the staff. I have good relations with them and dont want to mess it up. Thanks again for any help.
HELP! I have NEVER taken Suboxone in my life. I've never even seen it in real life. After 5 years of clean urine screens for pain management, I suddenly tested positive for it in June. I swore to my doctor I hadn't taken Suboxone or anything else not prescribed to me (because it was and is true) he said he had never seen a false positive but that he was inclined to believe me and would run more specific tests. I went back in a few days ago and he said that I had tested positive a second time, that Suboxone contains a very specific molecule that cannot be misidentified and that he would chalk it up to adulterants in my medications if other patients had tested positive, but no one else had. I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe me anymore. He was willing to send one more sample to another lab, but if it comes back positive he has to discontinue my pain meds. I am taking Zoloft, Xanax, Perphenazine (generic Trilifon), Trazodone, Oxymorphone, Oxycodone, Zyrtec, Excedrin, Sudafed, multivitamins, calcium and magnesium. I stand to lose the Oxycodone and Oxymorphone and, given the severity of the pain I'm facing, that literally puts my life on the line. I feel completely powerless because I never put Suboxone in or on my body in the first place, meaning there is nothing I can do to fix this. I'm scared to death and I don't know where to turn. Please DO NOT give me advice on getting away with taking Suboxone because I can't use it and I don't want it. PLEASE DO respond with ANY information or advice you may have for someone who really is not taking Suboxone and is testing positive for it
I have gone to Pain Management for 12 years & have never failed a urine test, or tested positive, for anything I wasn't prescribed. I had a false-positive drug test for Suboxone last week & I also have never seen or touched Suboxone in my life! I am on Oxycodone, Fentanyl Duragesic Patches, Excedrin, Pseudophed, Clonidine, Ambien & Neurontin. The strange thing is, that I was given both, a urine test & saliva test, at the same time & my urine test passed, but only my saliva tested positive for Suboxone? This concerned my Doctor even more. I am now required to go in weekly, get only 7 days of Rx's at a time & am required to go for a Psych Eval. I am both insulted & offended & scared that I may be discharged. This could negatively impact my life, as my pain is so severe, that I would have zero quality of life, without my pain meds.
Re: Josef K (# 8)
I was troubled by your message. It is now 2018 and I am wondering if you were able to resolve these issues? Thanks Also, I dont know but what is Suboxone? Why is it different than other pain meds, as I think it is a pain med? Is it any better than other opioids?
