False Positive For Benzodiazepines (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been testing positive for benzos and i cant figure out why. I have been taking suboxone & Ondansetron & promethazine. Thats it. If i fail another drug test, then my doctor is gonna kick me out. If anybody knows of any common substances, prescription or over the counter medications please inform me. Thanks
I was taking low dose benzodiazepines (and addicted to them)for many years and put on them and Prempro at same time. Slowly got off benzos after several years but stayed on Prempro. I was no longer addicted to benzos, but when doctor told me about 5 years after getting off benzos it was time to stop Prempro, after about 7-10 days later, I went into severe benzo w/d and bad depression even though I was no longer on benzos. I had to reinstate benzos . Somehow the benzos and hormones were connected in my brain. Could the hormones be on same receptors as benzos and when I tried to get off hormones it triggered severe benzo w/d even though I had been off benzos for about 5 years?
I've gotten many false positives for benzos throughout the winter. I've been in alcohol detox where they use them, but last was over a month ago and still they're showing up. In autumn they showed too, and I hadn't taken any benzos for many months. Only drug i'm taking is valdoxan, that is agomelatine, so i guess it's the culprit, even thou I can't figure out why. Any idea? All those drug tests have been taken from urine, I guess i should ask to take blood test and send it to lab, thou I'm in no trouble at least yet. Still, those positives bother me a lot.
I'm testing positive for benzos and take nothing but suboxone. I had my urine sent off and it specifically tested for a benzo called oxazOne or sears which I have never taken. Why is this happening. Four positives for benzos. I don't even want to leave house.
There seems to be so many people discussing false positives for benzodiazepines that a professional needs to find out why.....when I tested positive my urine was sent to lab and was positive for oxazapem....brand name serax......I have never heard of this med or taken it. Though, I'm noticing that Advil pm or Benadryl seems to be a common thread throughout post of those testing positive. Anyone have suggestions please post.
Yep, I took Benadryl. Actually it was childrens benadryl, dollar general brand. That seemed to be the only time I tested positive for benzos knowing I did not take any.
I Agree! A professional of some sort needs to check this out, cause if it's our regulated clinics messing with us . . . . .I guess were just screwed! They've made so who's gonna believe a bunch of ppl(lying addicts in there eyes) who've failed drug screens in the past, so why on earth believe us now? It'll just make us crazy or give in to those urges and make it look like we were really still just lying addicts! Ugh!!!
My old counsoler at the methadone clinic responded right away saying I was positive.I went ballistic and said I don,t do that weak ass s***.I,m old school 58 years old.A stinking benzo could not stand up to a barbiturate. She had it retested and it came back negative.I would not give a benzo to a cockroach. They are garbage.Instant blackouts and no high. But I got a new counselor who told me seven months after the fact that in the previous months I was dirty for five for benzos.Thank you very much b****.For not letting me contest this crap.I would have screamed bloody murder!Instead of going to the clinic one time a month,I have to go every day to this s*** hole. And I mean s*** hole. The methadone clinic. The best life has to offer.Don,t get me wrong. It works like a charm if you have a problem with narcotics.Blocks the euphoria every time.Opiates only.
So I got a letter in the mail today from the office that prescribes my suboxone, warning me that I am in danger of being able to continue treatment with them (after 2 1/2 years). Now I am not perfect, but when I asked for the reason why? I was actually shocked to find out that I had tested positive for benzo's. The shocking part for me was that while I had screwed up and taken a few valiums it had been AT least 2 months ago--only they were saying it was from my past visit (2 weeks ago) and also that I had failed the test for the same reason a month prior to that. Tell me how then did I pass the test that could have shown up positive, only for them to all of a sudden show positive for benzo's (3 types too!) when I have been taking nothing other than my suboxone, vibryd, diclofenac and occassional headache meds? I honestly can not remember if I took benadryl around the time I had taken the drug screens, but it seems as if either benadryl or sinus medicine has caused these false positives!! .I mean who do you think the doc will believe--me, a recovering addict or the people who diagnose the tests?????
I also failed a drig test for benzo's and have taken none! Im also in rehab and take subutex the milder form of suboxone and also take benedryl to sleep at night! It had to be the benedryl! Im so angry cause you know the rehab professionals have probably heard every excuse under the sun, but when you know in your heart of hearts that your clean it can be very frustrating! Benzo aren't even something I took when I had a prescription for them, I still took OTC meds to sleep, mainly benedryl!
I feel so very sorry for you! You're not alone!! Valium has the longest half life and can take up to OVER A MONTH to get out of your system! I'm in Mental Health Court in Lockport, New York. In May of 2013 I was in ICU and was given Valium through my IV. The day after my hospital stay I was in court and was told I couldn't take any benzos in the program, which was fine with me. However- the judge, who doesn't have any medical training had put me into jail TWICE in the month of June because I tested positive for benzos. I get urine tests from Quest but the judge doesn't get them until three weeks after I've given the sample. On June 21 he put me in jail again (the second time) and I missed my daughter's high school graduation- where she was Valedictiorian! I've not been out of jail long enough to prove my innocence so I'm going to submit a urine sample EVERY SINGLE DAY via Quest. I stopped taking Zoloft because it can cause false positives- it's even on the FDS's wesbite stating that! You need to see your doctor ASAP and get confirmation that you were at one point given Valium and have your doctor confirm that we are not cookie cutters and one size doesn't fit all. We metabolize meds differently and there's no such thing as taking a pill and by 1400 hours the next day everything is out of our system. We don't work that way!
I have been a patient of a pain clinic for 17 years, I have several medical conditions. My current treatment plan, (for the past 8 years has been Methadone & Percocet) I just received a letter from my pain doctor, I was so devistated .I don't mess around, I don't even drink (nothing, not even a beer!!!) I am a very straight laced 56 yr old woman in extreme pain. The letter stated i WAS being released, due to a failed urine drug test. I immediately went to the office to question this. I was Never so embarrassed!! & humiliated in my entire life. My doctor whom I've know for at least 11 yrs. & concider a true friend,He was so rude & dismissive, He told me I had him fooled for so many yrs. & how dissapointed he was in me. I still didn't know why, after he was done degrading me, he said my recent urine screen came back POS. for Suboxone!!! I didn't even know what that was.I told him that wasn't true & to redo the test, he refused, saying he uses the best labs & they don't make mistakes. I asked if there was anything I was taking that could cause this, He said absolutely NOT. He told me to leave & he never wanted to see me again. Can anybody help me understand this? PLEASE!!!!
Urine tests aren't accurate. Only accurate tests are blood tests, and any professional doctor should know that. Mistakes and false positives happen all the time with urine tests, even with "best equipment". Suboxine is opiate, so if your doctor says that i don't know what to say? It's elementary that they can give false positive to your medication
This issue definitely needs to be addressed... I just tested positive for benzos and I haven't taken a Valium in over a month. And even then, I took maybe two of them. It was probably the only drug category that I didn't abuse so maybe this is Gods way of punishing me. But, I know for certain, my urine is clean and something is not right. I am currently taking Suboxone and Lexapro. Also, I have a cold so I've been taking Dayquil... that's it! I am going to Quest this afternoon on my own dime to have a certified drug screen performed. I want to know what is going on here. Does anyone know if the certified test can hold up in court if I decide to take legal action? I've had enough with this clinic
Pat benzos can show 2 months if youve taken them regulary. Any doctor should know this, too
Hi banana, thank you for your reply. Yes, that was told to me by the doctor, but again, I never took them regularly. I took two of them about 5 weeks ago and prior to that, I can't even remember the last one(s) I took. I did just call the clinic and requested levels. They said that they are very low and actually agreed to retest me today. I'm hoping that this one will come back negative.
stop taking everything but your medicine.
I am 72 years old and was given a low dose of benzos for many years along with a hormone estrogen and progesterone. I switched over to Valium because it was easier to get off benzos with Valium because of long lasting effect of drug. After 15 yrs on low dose of Valium daily and daily hormones, I decided to join an on-line group to get off and slowly over 2 year period got off Valium but stayed on hormones (Prempro). I was fine off Valium for about 5 yrs, but then doctor said I should stop taking hormones. I went off hormones and after about 10th day off, I went into full benzo withdrawal even though I had not taken any benzos at all for 5 yrs. My doctor said one would have nothing to do with other, but w/d got so bad I had to reinstate benzos because I got to point where I felt like I was going to have a seizure. I looked up on internet benzodiazepines and hormone w/d and several articles came up that stated that progesterone would give you w/d same as benzos. My doctor didnt believe it, and I took several articles in and showed him. I am now taking 2 Valium a day (after 5 yrs off) and one hormone every 4 days to keep from having bad benzo w/d. The progesterone in the hormone acts the same as a benzo does and that is why as long as I was taking the benzos and the hormones together, I was ok, but once I stopped taking the hormones, (5 yrs later) I went back into full-blown benzo w/d. Hard to believe, but it happened to me. They both work the same for me. I believe they work on same receptors in brain.
Did you ever get the result from the lab?
Check out herbal meds like valerian root I've heard can give false positives
I just got kicked out of treatment because I tested positive for benzos even though I haven't taken any since dec 26th since I was in detox I used it to come off alcohol. I've been reading all the false positive stuff and it doesn't make sense. The only thing I have taken since I started residential treatment is Prozac, Seroquel, pariet, Portia (birth control) and advil ( regular), is there any foods that can cause a false positive ...pumpkin seeds??? - that' the only thing unusual I ate that is not normal for me. Is it possible for someone to put something in my food or drink that I didn't know I was there that would cause a benzo to show up in a pee test. I'm totally unsure what is going on. I am devastated I put so much effort into recovery of this program and to get kicked out is horrible, ended up drinking because of it because well I already got kicked out and no one believes me that I didn't take the benzos. ( well no one at the treatment center), my parents believe me and my therapist does. It's really bothering me because well I'm afraid to apply for treatment anywhere else even though this place said I could re apply in two weeks, but honestly if there's a chance I could get kicked out again for something I didn't take why even go. The other residents have been mean to me recently and it's like they wanted me to leave so I am seriously thinking that one of them stuck something in something to mess my piss test up but I don't even know if that is possible. I am so confused.
