CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO KEEP THE PATCH FROM COMING OFF AFTER SECOND DAY ? I SHOWER A COUPLE TIMES A DAY AND ON THE SECOND DAY THE PATCH WON'T STAY ON.THEN YOU USE MORE THAN WHAT IS PERSCRIBED AND YOU RUN OUT OF PATCHES AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T PAY FOR ANY MORE THAN PERSCRIBED, THEN COMES WITHDRAWAL?

I'm using CVS Window Bandage. It's the same thing they use in Hospitals to cover an IV line. Works great, like a second skin n if you've ever had an IV you know how much of a pain in the a&@ they are to get off.

Yea, stop taking so many showers and if you must for some reason - wrap the patch in plastic around your arm and tape it up so it won't get wet. Try a bath or shower once a day. Put surgical tape around the patch to keep it on. Shave all the hair off prior to putting the patch on . Bottom line. KEEP IT DRY

Plastic wraping tape will not allow the Fentanyl to breathe and will shorten the effect and half life!I tried that once with my old Doctor and she just gave me more. That was in 2007 or 2008,and before i looked like Alice Cooper.Where i live now that wont fly(getting more patches.)If the Fentanyl cant breathe that it wont last and "could "lead to damage! Why take a chance?
Put on the Tegaderm and white surgical tape all around the edges.I may not know a lot,but i sure as hell know my medications!

No. Just do that while in the shower to keep it dry Not all the time

10 minutes a day won't change the chemical make up of the patch

Recently I was taken off Fentanyl because of breathing problems ... has anyone else had this problem?

I am now miserable from the excruciating pain!

Any advice?

I use Unisol is a sticky remover I get from Smith and Nephew, I wash the area with water to remove this residue then dry then wipe with alcohol pad. Again dry the area, then apply patch being careful to keep it smooth and applying pressure especially to edges. As long as the area doesn't sweat the patch stays on until I'm ready to remove.

Hi, if you call the company that manufactures the patches they will send you the thin sticky covers for free. I always request Mylan brand patches at my pharmacy because they're small, clear and the company will supply the covers if you call them. The covers they send work great and they're easy to apply.

Excellent advice! I have been doing this same thing for 6 years. The Fentany patch covered by the Tegaderm patch work perfectly until you are ready for the next patch. I shower, swim and even do some physical activity with it on. The only time it gives in is on the last day and if I am sweating profusely. The Nexcare/Tegaderm lifts off of the skin at the edges but still seals to the skin any where near the patch thus working the balance of time it is supposed to be worn. This is positively the best method. I used all sorts of tapes and other ideas, some mentioned above but this is the easiest and most effective. Walgreens has them buy one get one free every now and then. They are packaged 8 per box Target,CVS and everyone else sells them!!

Nexus Bandaid company sells clear water poof bandaids I found them to work perfect for keeping patch in place. CVS sells them. It also helps to take the sticky residue left over from patches. Plus being clear, in case of an emergency, they can still be visible. I asked my pharmacist if it was ok to cover the patch. And said it was perfectly fine. Especially if you shower often. FYI , just be cautious of really hot showers, it will release more medicain than needed. Hope that helps.

Hello Bull, I don't know what brand of patch you're using but if you ask your pharmacy for the Mylan brand then call the number insider the box instructions they will supply you with patch covers free of charge. These patches are also clear and small. If you would rather use the brand you have you can buy Tegaderm. Ask for it at your pharmacy. I hope you get this resolved.

Make sure to clean off the area before placing the patch try using rubbing alcohol and make sure the spot it clean and dry before applying. Make sure you are putting the patch on somewhere where there's not much movement. If the problem is that it's getting wet then coming off you might want to try covering up the area with something that is water resistant and then placing it on with some sturdy tape or maybe just place the patch in your arm and avoid getting it wet while showering

I too had berating problems at sleep. They call it central sleep apnea caused by pain medication. Not the same as sleep apnea caused by obstruction in the airway.
Sometimes the only way around is to lose weight and cut back on pain meds. I was on Fentanyl75. It was cut to 50 & percocets and I don't use a machine or anything else for breathing.

Cover your patch with a clear bandage called Tegrederm. CVS has a generic brand called clear coverings. Walmart sometimes carries them but I generally get them at CVS or Riteaid. They are expensive tho 8 bandages for 10.99.
They are made by Nexcare and called Tegrederm. They are my lifesavers. Also BRAND of patches are different. I prefer the Mallinkroct Brand personally. I get mine at costco as they are so much cheaper!

Hi, I had the same problem as you, the doctor told me to clean the area with surgical spirit before applying a new patch, you should try and keep it away from direct hot water and not have the shower to hot as it will release more of the fentanyl into your body.
Good luck

Stop showering that often. Tape the patch back on with surgical tape if it comes off
I'm sure you can figure out how to keep a patch on your body. Cover the patch with plastic taped over it when you take a shower No need to use more just keep the patch on.

Tegraderm works great to keep the patch on thru showers, sweat, everything! It is one of two coverings the Driug company approves as safe and useful. The pharmacy can order them for you but I found that is the most expensive. I found my tegraderm at a shop that supplies nursing type equipment. A box of 4, 4X4", costs 15.00 dollars, however it is worth it to me rather than lose a patch. They are breathable, see through, and non irritating to skin. One of the uses is for covering small wounds, irritated skin etc. I put it on immediately after applying patch. I wear the 75 MCG, so the size works well. Good luck. Look it up on net you may find a cheaper source.

I called the company number on the box of the patches. They sent me 4 boxes of 50. 4x4 tegaderm and said call them as needed. I cut the tegaderm in half so I get 2 uses from each
