I WAS PRESCRIBED THE 50 MCG/HR FENTANYL PATCH FOR CHRONIC BACK PAIN & DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE. I WAS GIVEN THE PRESCRIPTION SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. I JUST GOT IT FILLED 2 DAYS AGO BECAUSE I'M AFRIAD TO USE IT. I HAVE READ ALL THE PATIENT INFO, RESEARCHED IT ON THE NET & TALKED TO SEVERAL PHARMACISTS AS WELL AS MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN. ALL OF THE PHYSICIANS & PHARMACISTS TELL ME THAT THE PATCH WILL HELP ME WITH THE DAILY PAIN. THEY SAY THAT THE PATCH SHOULD NOT CAUSE ME ANY HARM BUT THE ONE TING THAT'S STOPPING ME FROM USING IT IS THE RESPIRATORY SIDE EFFECTS & POSSIBLE OVERDOSE. I'M SEEKING SOME ADVISE FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE USED THIS DRUG BEFORE WHETHER IT WAS A GOOD OR BAD OUTCOME.

I AM OPOID TOLERANT BECAUSE I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PAIN FOR THE LAST 5-6 YEARS. WHEN I HAVE A BREAKTHROUGH OF PAIN & HAVE TO SEEK EMERGENCY TREATMENT OTHER PAIN MEDS GIVEN (IV OR IM) DON'T WORK ANYMORE. ER'S HAVE GIVEN ME MORPHINE & IT DOESN'T EVEN TAKE THE EDGE OFF THE PAIN. DILAUDID DOESN'T WORK UNLESS I'M GIVEN MORE THAN 3MG'S & THAT WEARS OFF AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR IF IT LASTS THAT LONG. WHEN I'M IN SEVERE PAIN MY PRESSURE RISES. I'M AFRAID OF THE PATCH B/C I DON'T WANT TO FAINT OR PASS OUT FROM A DROP IN MY PRESSURE. I'M CURRENTLY TAKING VICODIN 7.5/500 EVERY 4 HOURS. I HAVE NOW BUILT A TOLERANCE FOR THE VICODIN AND IT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO PERCOCET 5/325 & SOMETIMES I CAN TAKE UP TO 3 OF THEM EVERY 4 HOURS.

I'M ALSO ON OTHER MEDS THAT I BELIEVE WILL INTERACT WITH THE FENTANYL. I TAKE LEXAPRO, ATIVAN, CLONIDINE DAILY. I NEED SERIOUS HELP!!!

So sorry to hear about your husbands pain but if he would give the patch a chance I believe he will see a change in his pain.I am on fentyl patch and it helps my pain to an extence I do need a breakthrough pain med because I have had 2failed back surgeries ancspinal fusion with sctews and plates holding my back together.I have had half my lung and breast taken off and my lung out in hopes ir would cure my cancer I took radiation also but the cancer just keeps attacking my body it is in the bones now and I am in constant paun they gave me 17 months to live and all I want to.do is not becin such pain sobI can enjoy my grandkids a little before I die and the patch like I.said helps with break through meds so I would give it a try if I were him.

I am on fentynal 75mcg patch...i also am on lexapro,ativan,gabapentin 600mg/day n numerous other medications.....if ur in cronic pain like i am the patch really helps..advice....put it on now...good luck

He came so we may live eternally reconnect with him. I have a feeling you may already know the Lord. As you reach out to others even know your own life may be limited. You did not give your age but I am 57yrs old and am on the 50 mcg and taking perocet 10 mg and xanaxx for panic attacks and trazone for sleeping at night plus I use it foe depression.I also take neurotin for nerve pain.I have had cancer taken out from my lung and have had a stenth put in my heart because of heart trouble but my problems started when I was in a car wreck and it messed my discs up in my neck which the orthopedent dr said I had whip lash which will never get better and if he did surgery he would have to go through the front of my neck which is true.He found that I had my dics buldged and ruptured in the lower part of my back which lead to 2 failed back surgeries and then had to have surgery on my back the first one was a flop and I had to have anorher back surgery where they put plates and sctews in my back to hold me together and they had to put dead peoples bones in me which I did not know about till I got my records frim the hospital.Then in 2004 I was dignosed with lung cancer and had again to have surgery to remove a big mass then they told me I was cured of cancer which I was in stage 3 at that time.I then was dignosed with breast cancer in 2013 and had surgery to take a large mass taken out in April of 2013 andthey said again I was cured of cancer which I had talked with a old dr that use to take care of me and my family when we were little and he told me the truth when you get cancer and you are in stage 3 then the cancer had run to another part of my body and I told him I thought it had ran to my bteast and bones also and he agreed with me.To get back to the fentyl patch I asked if it would kill me if I took 50 mcg,perocet10,xanaxx the.trazone,welbutroin.for depression he said if I took the medicne the way the drs said.I would be fine cause all the pain I am in and I have been taking the medicine for along time after.they realized ho much pain I was in so I think you will be fine cause I am on oxygen also and f you haven't had cancr pain you have never had pain it is the most terrible pain I have ever.I kno I have not very much long to live and I want to be able to enjoy my family as long as I can and as long as I can.But Please do not take my word for this get in touch wirh your dr and ask him or her about it.I hope you havea great dr as I have and doesn't care to be honest with you.I also have been teading about marijuana and how it helps so many patients with different diseases such as cancer,cerebal palsy,epelispy,glocomua,aids and so many different diseases I think they should alliw drs perscribe that too cause my husbands oncoligst told me to find him some for his pain,appetite and the throwing up that comes with cancer treatment.I didn't know how bad it was till I went through the same thing with the pain ,appetite,throwing up and different other things that comes with a lot of diseases my sisters dr. wanted to percribecitvto her for the pain and pressure of the glocoma I took her to the eye dr and he said it woyld help more than the pain meds he gave her that day it was called diluadual I thini I spelled it right.Bless her heart she was in so much pain and had never seen her cry like that and the whites of her eyes when she has flar up of glocoma so ppl who have this is in pain so much.I don't know whyvthe government let drs help ppl with this herb.So everyone get a hold of their congressmen and women to let drs perscibe it that the drs thini it would helo ppl.I thini it would help the kids wirh cerebal palsy instead of the botox that hurt them when they go so deep into their little muscles.I hope our federal government will honestly think and do a study on ppl who need this.

Thanks for your consern and yes I do believe in Jesus as my Lord and died for me on the cross well really for all our sins.He has been with me in so many decisions I have had to make concerning my health.I am still praying he will heal myself and granddaughter who has cerebal palsy and if you do not mind please pray for us also you can not have enough prayers my mim use to say.The cancer sometimes take over and all I can do is pray lievin bed and cry cause of the pain and to be honest being scared but then Jesus.Pray for all who have what myself and granddaughter have cerebal palsy she is what is keeping me going I love Jesus and know if it is his will he will heal us and I know his power.

The dr changed mine from every 72 hours to every 48 hours causshe said it dud not last every 72 hrs and I completely agree wirh her.When u hae cane of lung,breast and two failed back surgeries she wanted me to be without so much pain for 48 hours and she is tellung the truth.You can find somw drs that are compassinate and like the oath says do no harm when there are drs that that no matter what they do not care if their patients are in pain.It eas proved to me the other day say me I just have medicaid and a man comes in insured with medicare and another ins. card called the Q card which I do not know anything about and the man with medicate csme in with that and the Q card and he was treated so great.My son who took me asked me about it and I told him thats the way it is when women aren't insured as good as medicaid patients and it is a shame cause women worked side by side with their husbands but we can not get these same type of healrhcare as their husbands we worked as hard or if not harder than the men.When my husband got hurt in.the mines they eaited till my son turned 16years old so I would not be able to draw his social security or get his healthcare card which is wrong the wives are lost without both their S.S. benifits and health care card.I wish I knew a attorney to help me get what I deserve cause I worked so hard along side him don't want too much just what I deserve does anyone know ask to find a good attorney that can get what I desrve.We had two kids and I didn't get one red cent from him where the other women got the medical and money thats all I ask for.Please get in touch wirh me and if you are a good attorney and care about the women that worked besides her husband even getting black lung beside him and we do get it from the clothes we wash and breathe the dust the workers the breathe I am told you will not find an attorney that will.help me and the ppl.that told me this is probably true wish I knew how to do it myself but a judge would laugh me out of the court room.I am praying that 2014 attorneys are different.Let me know if you find an attorney Please.Thank You and God Bless you .

Honey you are not the only one came up.short on their rxs I get mine filled at medicine shoppe and there have been times that I have came up short on my anxiety xanaxx meds and pain meds also but when you bring it to their attention they get mad.The patient knows to count them.when they get home or before they leav the pharmacy.I have had them to get mad at me and with hold my xanaxx by telling me they did not have them then I would know some that takes the same type I take and they got them so I went back and they said the dr made a mistake and called the wrong kind in and I called the drs office to make sure and they told me when and whatcthey called it in for me and then finally when I told them what the dr daid theybsaid ok andcwhen I picked it up it woyld have the date the dr told me and the same meds I had been taken so I was wondering why theyvlie to patients and they know what I have been taken for years it just botheres me cause I have trusted the same pharmacy for years and di not go to others ones and do not puck my meds up till they are due it seems like you can not trust anyone anymore.I do exactely what my dr and pharmacy days to do.and it is sad especiallt when I am dealing with lyng breast cancer and back surgeries out the ass sorry for saying it that way but when yoy deal wirh so much pain and the ppl who can helo you by filling your meds when they are due you wonder if they are taking it and then havung to cover their butts when I know thatcthey know what cancer and back surgery pain is.I wish they had a little compassion for ppl like me but they fill the rxs for ppl who have nothing wrong wirh them from just listening to them.You can not agruecwith them cause they have made it harder on me before so I just say nothing cause I do nit know who to report them to.

Had you been taking the Fentanyl for a extended period period of over 6 months? I can testify the first 2 or 3 months on Fentanyl would have been able to quit with no problems as I did do a few times but started again at physician's advice. A person who takes this medication or in fact any Opioid medication for a extended period will develop a tolerance to the drug. It's a natural reaction from your body.

Thank you for the Tagaderm info and for the advice about warming up the patch. I was in a motorcycle crash almost 2 years ago and started on the 12.5 Fentanyl patch about 8 months ago to help deal with the massive pain spikes. I don't like being on any type of meds but I still have 3 broken ribs near my spine that won't heal. Long story short, thank you for sharing. I have found strength in others stories and I know that I am "ok" for needing help when I just can't get through a normal day.

You know alot of ppl say they are afraid of the fentyl patch I live it cause it kills the cancer pain I have just one thing about it is I can't find a way to payfor it cause it is expensive I have to go without food half the month to be able to get it filled.If anyone knows some way to get help to pay for it I live on a fixed income and it is between getting my meds and my food I am so afraid that I am between a rock anda hard place.Iget medicaide but the way the dr wants me to put them on and to keep the cancer pain down so I can get a little out of life with my grandkids the pain is in the bones breast and lyng where the cancer is please help answer please help me if anyone has a

Teresa, you are telling my story! I was mugged in November 2010 and have been in crippling, agonizing back pain since then. I tried acupuncture & expensive PT with no relief. Every pain management & neurosurgery clinic wanted to cut me, but l refused. From the start, I have been getting weekly deep tissue massages, and bi-weekly chiro visits & continue to do so. I own every physio ball, pillow wedge, TENS unit on the market as well as an inversion table. My pain was finally managed well (by my long-term PCP) on a 50 MCG fentanyl patch every 48* with 8 mg dilaudid. Then l moved to another state for my husband's job 2 years ago & had to start all over. The only problem was that no doctor would accept an out of state new patient on Fentanyl. I traveled back to my PCP every 3 months for my meds until l was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer last year at age 43. My oncologist is a doll and got me accepted into pain management. The only problem is that my new doc treats me like a drug seeker, lectures me on my high doses of med (and says that l shouldn't NEED that much) & has been trying to wean me off my meds. When l begged her not to wean me because of the bone pain from my chemotherapy, she actually said "l'm not treating you for cancer pain". We did go down to 37 mcg for 6 months, then 25 mcg. My 8 mg dilaudid for break thru pain up to 4 times a day is now reduced to 2 mg twice a day. It does nothing. I am trying to lose weight from the chemo and regain my strength, but the pain is awful. She is pretty much telling me that l won't be on Fentanyl too much longer because she wants to burn the nerves in my lumbar spine and SI joints. I feel so badly for your suffering at such a young age. I'm on disability too but my kids are 22 & on their own. I can't imagine having to care for a little one too. God bless. JAC

There is food banks out there, you can contact the local churches as well. Some of the food banks require proof of income which if you're on a fixed one just bring your proof and if they charge anything I don't think it's more than 20-50 for a huge box of food. I'm going through similar issues myself I'm 31 and have allot of medical issues and always have. Been in and out of pain management had several surgeries have another major one coming up quickly and a surgery at 9 am tomorrow. But there is help out there. I hate to see people struggle if I could help I would but this is the best I can do is offer you information. There are lots of food programs out there for people in need. I've been there myself and without it I may not have eaten at all. I unfortunately don't have med ins, I just applied for medical here in California and the process takes a month or two but once I get the ins I'll be good to go and back in treatment. I'm in no place to give any advice.I'm in pain,my physician won't listen,even though my medicine has worked fine,a new issue of sciatic pain that isn't being addressed.I think I'm losing heart to believe doctors can ignore a patient and do whatever with no compassion or consideration.As my new physician has removed my medicine because she doesn't believe in it.I attempted to acquire a new physician,I w told I have no justification to ask;yet,if I don't trust this physician with something as this,how can I trust to put my life in her hands??

Just get on the lowest dose, with breakthru meds wear as directed. They work great, if your no stupid they will be your savior, beside Jesus of coarse. Just do the right thing the right way. You will have an easier life if you let God direct you and pray for a good pain mgmt doctor.

I can talk aboutFentanyl patch. It is long acting ,doesn't work on immediate pain thus sometimes you need breakthrough meds for exertion that causes extra pain. it takes 12-18 hrs to begin working and lasts 72 hrs or 3 days; however, once again the lull in which you have to wait for the new patch to work, I've used this patch successfully; I would ask the pharmacist for the insert that comes in the box.it is technical but there's enough you can grasp. It helps long acting but it wont help immediate or new pain.

USED THE PATCH IT IS WORKABLE,YOU PROBABLY SHOULD START LOW AND WORK UP BECAUSE IT IS MANY TIMES STRONGER THAN STRAIGHT MORPHEINE PLEASE DO DON'T CUT NOR CHEW THIS MED.IT CAN KILL YOU.TAKE PRECAUTIONS WHEN DISPOSING ;FOLD TOSS IN TOILET,WASH HANDS.

It does take the patch awhile to get into your bloodstream to take effect and yes anyone who has pain needs breakthrogh meds till it gets started.I can say that I know about the patch cause I use it for cancer pain of breast lung cancer and two failed back surgeries.I would try it and if it does not eork then youcan always change medications.

I am both Dialodud & Fentynal And no you are not going to die. As long as your doctor has given u the proper dosage you should be just fine. Actually, when u are at the pharmacy take a small dose of your meds and sit there and wait for them to work. If you have and problems then they can surely help you if you are that unsure. I know my pharmasist is the most understanding and willing to help. The pharmasists know more about your medication than your doctor they have go 8 years of pharmacology as opposed to 7 years of General Practiioner or Medical Doctor

Dont be scared be very careful with your meds and in some cases with opiates only take them as needed. Just because you are given 4 pills a day doesnt mean you have to take 4 take less then your tolerance will stay lower and if you want stop opiates it will be better to take a pill only when you need one. Less is better. I know i have been on opiates for 10 years and am cut my meds down to lower level and very happy i did it!!!

Im on the patches.
Right side of body is blood TO the heart, left side of body is AWAY from heart.
For best results, shave area of all hairs.
Do not put it where you will lay on it.
Increasing the temp of the patch and arm will open pores and allow more medicine to pass through prematurely.
The best place I have found is under the right arm. I use TWO application sites and alternate between the two.
A hot shower can also allow premature amounts to pass through.
If theyre the older ones which have the liquid gel inside, I leave it on until you rub it slightly, and do not feel 'slippery'
The newer foil ones I actually leave on for 96 hrs. I overlap the patches by 24hrs. YOU WILL GET UNBELIEVABLY SICK IF ALLOWED TO WEAR OFF.
Third day I usually put new one on.
But do not remove old one until minimum 12 hrs after applying new ones.

I always leave the old patch on when I put the new one on since only wear it for 2 days I just wear the old one until the day I change. Find have the patch I would the a crazy maniac. They work for me especially with the 15 milligrams of oxycodone 4 times a day. I've never had any problems with these patches, I can feel in sometime but I rather not feel pain and be high.
