Extreme Fatique, Joint Pain, Muscle Weakness With Eliquis For Afib (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was having extreme fatigue, joint pain, muscle weakness after starting Eliquis and started to having black stool with nausea and abdominal pain. I gradually reduced the dose until no longer taking Eliquis nor ever will. It really put a fear in me. Asprin works for me via my AFIB. I can tell if my blood is too thick when my heart is working hard to pump the blood out of my heart. I feel much better when my heart is pumping normally when the blood is thinner. You sometimes have to insist to your doctor the side effects you are feeling, this is a fairly new medication. Anyone else have these side effects?
I have persistant AFIB. Since taking elequis I have numb feet, muscle wasting of my arms. Cant use arms for lifting. Tired all the time. Depression is worse. Hopeless feelings. Coumadin and pradaxa was similar.
So many horror stories - I just recently started reading these messages. First of all it was difficult to find the pages - however, I wish people, who take the time to share their thoughts and experiences, would also be aware that specifics are very important - such as your age, what kind of afib you have, and how long you've had it. I was told sept. 1st, 2016, by a cardiologist who took my ekg, that I had Afib, my blood pressure was reading pretty high averaging about (150/89) and I was experiencing pretty heavy anxiety and felt I could feel my heart pumping also seemed more tired than usual. He immediately recommended I take the drugs eliquis and metoprolol which I have not done yet. I am trying to get as much info as possible in order to take the step every active brain cell tells me not to. I'm 84 yrs young, active, have an irregular heart beat with no valve problems. I immediately cut down on salt intake - that helped, I started being faithful to taking vitamin supplements, cut down considerately on eating meat and sugar, started taking one small aspirin a day (thinking of adding another) going to try to use the blood thinning naturals that have been written in messages e.g. ginger, red pepper, pom juice. Also taking walks up to an hour and doing arm and leg exercises daily. These past 3 months gradually I'm feeling normal, yet get a little winded, but the anxiety has diminished considerably as has the feeling of my heart pumping, and my blood pressure has come down averaging 139/82. I have to change my insurance from Brown and Towland to Kaiser Perm so I'll be seeing a group of very new doctors in a completely different setting; they're all in one place and exchange info with one another which seems like a plus for the patient - what say you?
The doctors ALMOST ALWAYS ignore these very valid complaints. That is how they are taught. So do not rely on them to fess up. They are afraid of lawsuits, and the drug companies give them lots of perks. Look it up. The bottom line is that Eliquis almost did me in. See my posts. And true to form, the docs dismissed this, even though when I went off the problems of weakness and pain in my legs went away. So complain to FDA by filling out a MED WATCH FORM. May help, but with the current administration in power, FDA is pretty much WORTHLESS, sorry to say. FDA is more concerned with getting money from the drug companies so the drug firms get their new drugs approved faster....WHAT A MESS WE HAVE HERE!!!
I am 82 yrs old have had AFIB for 4 yrs since I had my hip replaced. Had a small stroke 6 months after hip replacement. No after effects of stroke. Dr put me on Eliquis. I have extreme fatigue weaknesss and dizziness, Went to ER and they found nothing, I could sleep all the time. Started research and looked at side effects. I started taking Vitamin b-12 and Iron. If I take them in the morning I feel much better. The Eliquis has affected my stomach and I get sick when I eat. I go to the Gastrointerologist next week. Hope he can find the answer.
Yes, I also have severe muscle and joint pain, especially in my arms shoulders neck. I also have a general feeling of not being well, and fatigue. My symptoms are worse in the morning, if I don't take acetaminophen I can't function. Before taking Eliquis I was strong, active felt great, now my quality of life has dwindled to about a 3. I decided I would take my chances with my afib and start a low dose of aspirin and other natural supplements that will aid in better heart health. So I have only recently weaned myself off of Eliquis, it has been one week and still have the pain. However the general feeling of not being well has gone as well as the fatigue. I hope the pain will subside in a couple of weeks.
I had been taking Eliquis for a week and then I had severe nausea and severe weakness. I have blood clotting problem. I was taking just 2.5 a day. My doctor had me to take 2 a day. Glad I didn't take the second pill. I am still feeling weak and have joint pain.
Get off it. Quit taking the doctor's word as f***ing gospel. They don't give a f*** about your health. They are in this business to make money. Take natural medications. I don't believe only a prescribed drugs made in a factory can treat, prevent & cure blood clots, that is BULL!! Tell you doctor you want to go natural and watch what he says, he will be against it because he can't profit from it like he does with them poisons like warfarin, xarelto and the like. I'm going against my doctor and going natural so I know how you feel. Trust!!
I have been fighting doctor for day's, all I get is dizzy, she tells me that is not a side effect, frankly, she's FOS, it's a rare 1 and I'm drug sensitive, call my GP, he said cut to 1 and take, at bedtime. I have a mitral valve leak due to be fixed on 6/1 and I can't life like this, any longer, stick a fork, in me.
I have been on Eliquis for about 3 weeks, after not being able to take, Xarelto, pradaxa or warfarin. I have Afib, have had 2 Ablation surgeries done. The Eliquis is causing me severe fatigue, Nausea, and diarrhea. Muscle pain, but unfortunately I still have to take it. However i do believe that an Aspirin every day would work just as well
I tried Eliquis for two weeks and it was awful for me. I normally have no side effects with drugs, but this one gave me nausea, tiredness and joint pain. I went off of it four days ago and I feel much better today. It made my tongue feel weird and I had kind of a metallic taste, little appetite, in general felt strange. After my double knee surgery three years ago I had to inject a blood thinner every day for 60 days. There was no problem with stopping it cold. I am going to fight my doctor on having to take a blood thinner. If God has planned that I will die of a stroke, then nothing I can do in myself is going to change it. I take my other mess no problem but I am a point now that enough is enough!
After a DVT lower right leg I was put on Warfarin for 12 months, no problems or side effects except bruising. Haematologist decided to take me off warfarin and put me on Elelquis 2.5m twice a day. To come back in 2 months, but he would ring me after a week to see how I was handling it. Two weeks passed, no word so I rang tha hospital with my concerns over the unbearable side effects . They said he would ring me back, no word, so. I decided to put up with these problems as the rash all over my body started to get lighter. The other symptoms of continual headache everyday, unbearable pain in my legs and back, tightness over chest, cold symptoms and bronchitis, bloating stomach, joint pain inmost joints never had before, blurred vision, dissiness, large bruising, exhaustion especially after midday, can hardly walk or move. Seeing specialist tomorrow, hope I live till then. Never will I take another Equilis tablet. Female 73 years old. Rosy
I've now been on Eliquis,5mg, twice a day for 2 months. Have been fatigued, tired, sleepy since day one. Struggle to do routine things. Xmas was exhausting and didn't get much done. Doubt this is a coincidence. Lots of coffee, pot/day, maybe helps a little. Hoping the flutter goes away so I can get normal again. So many things to do
that is another thing i have noticed?? all he wants to do is sleep??? he's sleeping right now, and it's not 2pm yet???? then wants to go to bed at 7??? this is ridiculous....and to me, this med has ruined everything
Yes, I was getting headaches with Apixaban too so my go halved the dose. Now I feel better. It's not Apixaban that causes my problems but the drug I'm given for osteoporosis called denosumab. I am not going to continue with it when my next jab is due in November!!!
I had Afib and on May 25th was admitted to the hospital. May 26th I had Cardioversion and was put on Elquis 5mg 2 times daily... Very sick with Elquis (very tired, pain in my legs, headaches like my brain was going to burst, very upset stomach and very forgetful, could not remember what day it is)... On July 21st I stopped Elquis - took aspirin 81 mg in the morning and night. Now I take one aspirin 81 mg night... Also take Cartiaxt 120 mg morning and Lisinopril 20mg night. I am a 69 year old woman. I can't tolerate medication so my stomach hurts every day.... Didn't have Afib so far. Elquis gave me terrible side effects...
Hi, I am having terrible side effects from Eliquis. My hair is falling out, I feel like a zombie, my legs are swollen, I am tired all the time, mental fog, I feel like I have Alziemers this all happened in a month. I was feeling like a normal full of energy person then my Dr put me on Warfarin, had terrible side effects, then tried Xeralto, it was worse, then Eliquis it’s like it’s poisoning my whole system. I don’ t know what to do my Dr thinks I am a nut case.
Re: Bett (# 11)
All of you reporting, tell the dosage you are taking, so we can compare. Thanks!
Re: James (# 18)
James how are you feeling after being off the drugs and trying natural remedies?
I’m on Xarelto with side effects of a hurting and numb arm. Also feel tired. I don’t like taking it.
Re: JCH (# 5)
I have the same symptom on Eliquis joint pain, fatigue, weight gain all since starting this blood thinner. However I do not have a fib I have a clotting problem otherwise I would be on Warfarin. Was on it before and aside from having to get your INR''s checked until they get your dosage right I had no side effects and zip was on it for years. It just isn't good for me now. All the other alternatives have some kind of side effects for me
Re: JCH (# 5)
I have a tendency to get blood clots after a surgery so that is why I am on Eliquis. It has a better clotting factor then Warfarin. I had no side effects with Warfarin, but you would have to check with your Dr. first since you has a blood clot. On Eliquis, I have joint pain, weight gain, and tired all the time but all the other ones do the same thing. Wish I could be on Warfarin again
