Effects Weight Gain Metformin

I weigh myself twice weekly, my scale tells me I have gained 4 pounds over a short period. I have been on Metformin 750 for over a year. My concern is this rapid gain. Can anyone tell me about their experience and what they found to keep weight stable. My diet includes fresh fruit , low carb vegetables, some whole grain bread, and whole wheat pasta. I noticed recently though snacking on nuts mixed in dried fruit.

How rapidly have you gained weight? The NIH does warn that diabetes itself can cause weight changes, however there are other issues that could cause it, as well, such as high blood pressure, edema, or a heart condition.

Thus, the safest thing to do would be to have this checked out by your medical provider, for your own safety.

How much are you snacking? Some nuts can contain a lot of fat, and calories, so while they are healthy to a point, you do still have to be careful how much of them you eat. The dried fruit can also affect your blood sugar, since fruit contains simple sugars.

I would say looking at my records the weight gain started in August 135-139, with Sept/Oct creeping up 139-144. Nuts/dried fruit more than shud, find miss carbs esp breads, test stick was 126 before eating. how do you feel satisfied after a meal? thought metformin might be help shed #.

Hey careful when you come off that stuff. Hubby had issues his muscles killed him and we both had weight gain. It only is supposed to metabolize your sugar better that's my understanding. I googled side effects found a lot. If you go off cold turkey feel like worked hard at the gym. Come off easy we found a produce at Sam's called cinculin worked better than met my a1c is now 6.2 haven't checked hubby
