(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hey! In all the other threads about the new oxy's -- everyone is stressing the new coatings, it seems. I have found the easiest and most efficient way to get BOTH coatings off is {edited for safety reasons}. Thought y'all would like to know that.

Hi everybody, I just wanted to share my experiences with you, I have been on high dose Oxycontin since 2008 for servere Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy in my feet and too a less extent my fingers, I've been on 200mg a day divided between 80mg morning, 40mg midday and 80mg bedtime, I had been finding that I was needing more and more to get any relief, sometimes I even crushed them up to get some relief, a few months ago my chemist gave me the new formula and at first I didn't really notice any difference, after a short time however I did, they are not as strong (yes the mg's are the same but potency seems less) BUT I discovered they DO last longer, I also found that they gave me very bad constipation, however, after getting used to them I couldn't be happier, my stomach has settled down and I'm less and less looking at my watch waiting for my next dose, I don't feel as tied to them now I feel I'm getting my life back, so too anybody who truly needs these drugs I'd say be patient, give them a chance and let your body adjust, as another bonus even though my doctor has known me for years she doesn't have to worry about me being a closet addict because its obvious they cant be readily abused, and if I have to see a different doctor they don't look at me sideways, give them a chance and you really might see their benefit :)

I hope this helps some of you out there, this is a good drug but can and often is easily abused, hang in there and give them a chance, the formula WONT be changed back nomatter how much you complain, its done now, so if you really need them be thankfull you have them at all

I'm amazed by ppl who feel the need to insult chronic pain sufferers in such forums as if they have nothing else to do w/ their own lives!! Unless you have been in any of the other legitimate poster's shoes , I'd advise you to keep your opinions to yourselves! WE all have our own battles and neither need your approval nor your "Holier than thou" attitude. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY..... "Opinions are like a**holes, Everyone's got one and most all of them stink!"

I appreciate these forums by others who, by no fault of their own, suffer daily just to get out of bed much less truly wish for one hour without severe pain. Shall we continue........

I am in pain SEVERE pain all day every day . And these new pills do not help my pain, oh and i have tried every alternative to control my pain from acupuncture to nerve blocks to cortizone shots. I have tried everything and opiate pain pills are the only thing that allow me to function at all. I wish so bad that arrogant know it all's like u could experience the pain im in for just one day and see if ur not willing to do anything to alleviate the pain. It is because of people like u that make it that much harder for people like me with legitimate pain problems to aquire pain pills. i hope and pray that u suffer from debilitating pain someday and u are denied access to the one thing that can help u

Very well said,I stumbled upon this website one day when I was searching for pain management DR's in my area.Honestly I'm no angel.I did lots of stuff when I was a teenager and now feel that this is payback for abusing my body years ago. Most people on here have legitimate pain inflicted on them from some ailment or another,me being one of them and for the life of me I don't understand why people are still searching for that unattainable buzz from taking the coating off of an op.They work much better and last a lot longer if you just swallow them and let the time release do its thing.OC's were much better but the fools still searching for the Holy Grail of high's will never be satisfied, and Perdue isn't ever gonna get sued again from a so called accidental overdose.

Talked to Dr4. Asked for lower dose of Perc's instead of oxycontins. Dr said no way and instead bumped my dosage to a 60mg oxycontin bid.

And for the A**holes who are b****ing about people trying to increase the effectiveness of this medication why don't you take a dull knife and start removing the heel of your foot. What you completely ignore is the FACT there are a lot of people who are in CONSTANT CHRONIC SEVERE PAIN. So do those of us who are SUFFERING because they don't have access in the 2014th year of our Lord to a medication that allows the patient to be able to roll over in bed without yelling in pain. To be able to dress oneself. To be able to clean their house by actually being able to pick things up off the floor. To be able to get into and out of a car. To be able to WORK and make a living, or at least enough to buy food clothing and the GD meds. Do us a favor and go eat a gun!

kam, you are just another self righteous little b****. After YOU break YOUR neck and a few of the long bones in YOUR body, THEN sit here and hide behind a keyboard and tell everyone how foolish and wrong it is to seek RELIEF via any means available.

What a jacka**.

WTF is the deal with "edited for safety reasons". Are we supposed to try and e-mail the OP or is there a secret decoding ring you can get an a box of lucky charms?

I was recently taken of an RX of 112 10/325 Perc and put on 2 40mg oxycontin's a day. They didn't work well at ALL. So now they put me on two 60mg oxycontin's a day. I took one at 11 and after 4 hours am getting a bit of pain relief but NOTHING like the Perc's did. I have been lucky to have held down a part time job in addition to my disability check. I used to take my meds as I was leaving for work and by the time I got there they were starting to work. They didn't last 6 hours but the oxycontins don't last for 12 hours!

I used to get a bit of euphoria when the Percs started to work, it lasted maybe half an hour or so. Nothing to write home about but it made my first hour at work a bit easier. I don't get any euphoria with the oxycontins. And these 60mg ones don't relieve my pain as well as the old 40mg Percs. I never abused the meds but my Dr is ADAMANTLY opposed to putting me back on my percs. And to make a lousy situation worse Walgreens tells me I will have to wait an ADDITIONAL hour to fill my RX as they have a corporate policy of call my Dr and the Feds or something. I've been going to the same wallgreens for 4 years every month with an RX from the same DR and they act as if I was some agent for the Sinaloa Cartel.

ALL I WANT IS ENOUGH PAIN RELIEF TO WORK 4 HOURS FOUR DAYS A WEEK AND ENOUGH RELIEF I CAN SLEEP MAYBE 4 HOURS A NIGHT.

Not only don't they work walgreens makes me feel like I'm some drug dealer. I wouldn't THINK of selling my RX, I NEED them to do things. Like bend over to put on my socks, or lift my legs high enough to get into my tub and sit on may bath stool to take a shower. I can't stand long enough to take a shower and I'd have a lousy time trying to lie down or get out of a bath.

Do any of you have a suggestion that might help me get my Dr to prescribe something that actually works? She suggested some time release morphine but I've had numerous morphine injections into my IV's in the hospital and it might have well been saline solution. FOr some reason morphine doesn't phase me. I told the Dr and he had a nurse give me a MUCH stronger dose without telling me. The bottles were behind me. And he came back an hour later expecting me to be in LALA land but I was reading a book trying to take my mind off the pain. My dad was wounded in WWII and he told me stories about how high he got when they used morphine to ease his pain. For some reason it doesn't do anything for me so I told my Dr no thanks.

I'm not looking to get high or make money from selling the stuff, I just need some pain relief so I can function.

Any helpful replies will be GRATEFULLY acknowledged! I cant afford to live on my disability alone.

FYI, there is NO valid reason to take the coating off oxycontin. NONE. If you need "less" you talk to dr. If you need something different you talk to dr. Doing this is going to cause you problems. I can assure you that no legitimate pain dr would condone this and would drop you like a hot rock. It puts them at a huge risk for lawsuit when you od.

I hope your dr does drop you as a patient if you are playing games with the coating on oxycontin. You need to talk to the dr, not take matters in your own hands. You make it so that dr's are very reluctant to help out because people do stupid things and OD.

Mark Twain like the others of his time were not even allowed to consider themselves artits or aithors unless they had a healthy opium habit--oh for the days of legal opium, even opium elixer for Fussy Babies. Perhaps we are the backlash being the first generation without any legal drugs for recreation.

You're friggen sad,it's ppl like you thats ruining it for those of us who actually want pain relief and not a buzz.I'm not happy about the new formula either,it's just an extra pill I have to take to keep myself mobile and able to go on with my daily life without being in unbearable pain.I seriously doubt if Perdue is ever gonna go back to the OC formula, notice theres been less OD's since the change??

The people on this forum that are hating on commenters that are suffering from chronic pain make me sick. (You make me even more sick than the people posting and telling us that if we shove the straw up our noses far enough it wont gel.).... Give me a break. You all think taking the coating off of a pill is something that only a junkie would need to do, in order to do a line. Breaking and crushing pills is done for many other reasons, which is why they sell pill crushers/cutters at your local pharmacy. What if people are wanting to crush their pills to mix them in a small amount of liquid for faster relief? What if people are being responsible, and only wanting to take half a pill or just lower their own dosage on days their pain isn't so severe? And, what if this was a forum full of junkies? ..Do you honestly think your insults and name-calling is going to help them, or change their mind on getting that coating off somehow and snorting it? Does a stranger on the internet with their own vices really bug you on such a personal level?.. Do the world a favour; Remove your heads from your asses and do a little research before you start running your mouth and bashing the sick / injured / sufferers from chronic pain.

STFU PLEASE...Have you ever really been in or had to watch someone close to you be in extreme, relentless pain? CLEARLY NOT. How bout you stay up on your "high-horse" & STFU about topics you have no TRUE experience with.
