Drinking On 5mg Lexapro

Hi,
I went to the doctor today and was prescribed 5mg of Lexapro. I am a senior in college and am fairly social. I typically go out to parties and/or the bar a couple times a week, and when I do, I usually have anywhere from 6-10 drinks. I usually get pretty drunk if I'm being quite honest. The main reason I am posting is because my 21st birthday is next weekend (nine days away). I plan on having a party and want to have a good time, but also don't want to put myself in danger. My doctor told me I could just take half a dose that day (2.5 mg) and only drink like three drinks (which I know won't happen) or wait until after my birthday to start taking the Lexapro. I would like to start taking now, but also don't want to have something bad happen/act a complete fool on my birthday. I would love if some users could give some suggestions on what they would do and how the drug has affected them while drinking a pretty heavy amount of alcohol.

All responses are greatly appreciated! I have been looking forward to this day for a long time :)

It would be best to wait until after your birthday, if you feel you must drink alcohol.

It intensifies the side effects of the medication, which could be very dangerous.

You may experience far more dizziness and drowsiness than normal. Basically one drink will be the same as having 2 or 3 and so on.

thank you for your response. I actually ended up starting the medicine yesterday morning as I could not wait any longer. I spoke with a friend who is on anxiety meds and she said for me to just not take it the day of birthday and I should be "fine". Will not taking it help? Are you actually on Lexapro and have experience with drinking? The main anxiety I have is health anxiety so I get nervous.

Hi! I have been on lexapro for a while and I have found that whenever I drink, it makes me really nauseous and I vomit. I will only have a few drinks, and I will be totally fine mentally, but I still puke :( that is just my personal experience with it!

Hi,

I'm on Lexapro. I began taking it back in December. The first time I drank with it I fainted at the bar.. And had to have an ambulance come. I had TWO drinks that night. After that night I researched the side effects that drinking while taking Lexapro had in people, along with reading blogs and forums with what people had to say. And I must say that this is fairly common with SSRIs.
So I would just be cautious, because everyone is different.

health anxiety never heard of the 1 before , acute, general , chronic, social, if you take a med like lexapro don't drink more than 2 pints on special days like YOUR WEDDING . Lexapro is a strong med and it don't like being messed with or it bites

I have been taking 10 mg of Lexapro for 2 months. I am a social drinker. The first month I had no side affects of the med and drinking. The second month on the med if I drink I get nauseous and today was the first time vomiting. I will change the time I take the med, because I noticed the first month I took the med in the am, and I usually have a glass of wine or a cocktail in the evening with dinner and I was fine. It wasn't until the second month I changed to late afternoon for taking the med and that's when I began experiencing symptoms. So I will go back to taking the med in the am. Hope this helps and of course everyone is different.
