Dr. Prescribed Mirtazapine For Sleep

I am a diabetic, and my Dr. prescribed mirtazapine for insomnia. I'm worried about high blood sugar and weight gain. I haven't had much luck with all the meds they've had me try, and I don't need any more issues to deal with, especially trying to get off of something that isn't working. Too scared to try it.

Hi! I completely understand what you're talking about, I've been there myself. I have weird reactions and am very sensitive to most medications and sometimes it's a real roller coaster ride to find something that works, without making me completely miserable.

And I was actually just responding to a post from someone else that is having a problem with insomnia and I'd like to ask you the same question I asked them: What tests have been done to discover what's causing your insomnia?

From what I've found, most doctors just throw medications at you and never actually look for the underlying cause and there are various other health issues that can cause insomnia.

One big thing that can cause it that many aren't aware can do so are your hormones. From the username you used on here, I don't know if you're male of female, but it really doesn't matter, since a hormonal imbalance can cause problems for either gender.

Estrogen is a huge problem causer, because there are many estrogen mimics in our environment that we come into contact with through pollution, processed foods, phytoestrogens, hygiene products and etc. While men don't naturally have as high of an amount of it as women, then can still end up with too much and it is an excitatory hormone, so it can cause insomnia. In that case, your hormones would need to be rebalanced, or the problem will never be solved.

Being that you're diabetic and hormones are well known to cause blood sugar issues, it could very well be that you've gotten too much of one of the problematic ones and not enough of the good, calming ones.
