I was given doxycycl hycl by my doctor because I have some hair lost I have read some of the side effects now I am kind of scare to take this. from reading what others has said no one said anything about this drug in reference to hair lost just want to know if doxycycl hycl help with this problem. ## Hello, Judy! How are you? No, the FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and it will only treat bacterial infections. It will do nothing to help with hair loss. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Additionally, improper use creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, which could be dangerous in the future. What type of doctor did you consult?

I've been taking the med to cure chlamydia and I'm on my last two days. It seems to not have been working cause I'm stilling seeing a discharge and have itchy genitals. ## Hello, Nick! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having. This antibiotic can also cause yeast infections, as a side effect, so its possible that you've developed one. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. But it is also possible that you may need a stronger antibiotic or a longer course of treatment with one. Have you consulted your doctor, yet?

After the first dose of doxy-cycl hycl 100mg I have had heart burn ever since I'm on day 3 of a 30 day course. Will this go away or will I have heart burn the whole time? ## Hi JoAnn, Are you taking this medication with any food or on an empty stomach? Although heart burn is not listed as a side effect of Doxycycline, I have come across a number of other posts in which patients mentioned having severe heart burn and have had to call their doctor or go to the emergency room. They also noted that having the pill with food could help relieve some of the symptoms associated with heart burn. There's really no way to tell how long symptoms will last, since everyone reacts to these drugs differently. If it persists though, you may have to consider stopping the medication and opt for a ...

I am taking DOXY-CYCL HYCL along with 10mg of Amlodipine. Now my legs are swollen. I'm not sure if it's the antibiotics or the blood pressure pills. Am I supposed to take both pills at the same time? Also I've been on the Amlodipine for 2 months and 4 days of the 7 day antibiotic. ## Hello, TC! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between these two medications in the Medscape database. However, it's always best to double check this information to be sure. If I had to make a guess, I'd say it is most likely the Amlodipine, it is known to sometimes cause edema in some people that take it, as listed in the side effects according to the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and hypotension. The antibiotic may cause side ef...

Now I have a skin infection and have been prescribed Doxycycl Hycl 100mg tabs and have heard that there may be a negative interaction. ## Hello, Fastjack! How are you? Yes, that is correct. The Doxycycline can cause an increase in Digoxin levels, which has the potential to be dangerous. In this case, It would most likely be best to speak to your doctor about taking a different antibiotic. It says two times a day. Is that no less than 12 hours close, or can it be 11 or 10 to switch the time of day around some. It is hard to stay up until 1 am. Have about 7 1/2 more days to take this. Enlarged red vein is what is is given for. June 13, 2014 ## Hello, Louise! How are you? To properly eradicate the bacteria, the level needs to remain fairly constant in your body for the duration of the time you're being treated with it. And hour or 2 isn't going to make a huge difference, but you should try to keep them as close to 12 hours apart as you can. Side effects to this antibiotic may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am taking these meds for 3 days now and I have 4 days left. The doc said to take them twice a day for 7 days. My boyfriend has chlamydia and he needs to be treated. We had intercourse last night. I continued my meds today as usual. Will I be cured or will I have to start treatment all over again?? ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? You should not be engaging in intercourse, while either one of you has an active Chlamydia infection. You both need to abstain and let them be fully cleared up, before engaging in intercourse, again. As to your question, you may need a longer course of the antibiotics now, so please consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

After having a toe nail removed, and the nail matrix killed I was prescribed DOXY-CYCL HYCL 100MG TAB. It has caused fevers, vomiting, tingling in my feet and a sunburn. The doctor said to finish the seven day course? What a freak, this is horrible, I want to flush this torture in a prescription bottle. What can I request as a replacement antibiotic? ## Those are definitely not normal side effects, but rather they are considered severe ones that can be dangerous and no, you shouldn't continue to take this antibiotic. THIS GENERIC DRUG PRESCRIBED FOR EYE INFECTION WAS $4.OO FOR 90 CAPSULES UNTIL YESTERDAY -WENT FOR REFILL AND IT COST ME $107.32 OUT OF POCKET ( I HAVE AARP PART D) FOR 90 CAPSULES. IT SEEMS LIKE DRUG COMPANIES ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF US OLD FOLKS !! ANYWAY NOT HAPPY ## Hi, Joyce! Yes, I ran into that recently myself and there have been several other posts on here about it. Even the pharmacists at the pharmacy I use were unable to explain why there was such a huge price increase recently, but they said that it had happened with all manufacturers, the price between them barely varying by a few cents. The best suggestion I can make is to ask your doctor if there is an alternative antibiotic that you can use that may be cheaper. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?

I have been on Doxycycl for 3 days. I am also on Metronidazole vaginal for a bacterial infection. Took last night for the first time. Today I have a mucousy like discharge. Am I going to get a yeast infection now from the doxy? If I get a yeast infection can I take both vaginal creams at the same time? ## Have you consulted your doctor? It is always possible to get a yeast infection from an antibiotic and the Doxycycline is no exception. However, if you used the vaginal Metronidazole, the discharge could be from it, it is normal for some of it to be expelled by your body and not all of it to be used. And what did you mean by both vaginal creams at the same time? There should be no need to add another one, yeast infection creams also contain Metronidazole. ## Can u take doxyciline and us...

The price of this medicine just tripled at my Pharmacy. I am looking for a better price for a long term supply. I need Doxy-cycle hycl 100mg capsules. ## There have actually been several posts about there being a sudden price increase in this medication, I'm not sure what's up with it. However, this website doesn't manufacture, prescribe, nor sell any medications, it is an information only website. You can learn more Doxycycline details here. Have you talked to you doctor? They may be able to prescribe a cheaper alternative.
