I've been taking Donnatal and/or Belladona for over 10 years to treat IBS. When it was time for a refill, I was told both the brand name and the generic forms have been taken off the market. I am lost with these meds, that virtually eliminated the discomforts of IBS.

I found this link and am going to look into it as an alternative. I too am desperate because I can not afford that much for any medication, let alone one that I rely on to live a fairly normal lifestyle.

I did some research, and found out that the "mom and pop" pharmacies still carry it. Best luck is looking for ones near a hospital. They still make Belladonna, it just isn't being distributed by the big corporations (CVS, Wallgreens, Rite Aid, etc.) because of the FDA issue.

I did that, and got TWICE the amount my original prescription (120 tabs) for only $8 versus Rite Aid asking for $165 for $60. Worth a shot, and good luck!

I've been getting prescribed downstairs and dicyclomine for years. The dicycolmine does absolutely nothing for my IBS-D. In 2011 there was a shortage of generic donnatal, and since may of this year they stop making generic. I saw my doctor a couple of weeks ago and told him about the expense of name brand downstairs, and how I couldn't get generic anymore. Well he said he happened to get samples in of donnatal, yes he actual did..he gave me 6 bottles. Name brand downstairs is $105 for 120 pills, and I can't afford it. They do make liquid form but that is still an expensive option. Dicyclomine is Not a good alternative for donnatal period. Guess were sh*t out of luck....my mom's insurance for donnatal is rather check compared to mine so luckily we share right now. Once I found out about the discontinuation of generic I went from 4 pills a day to 1-2 to extend what I have left. Something needs to be done for us, we can't live a normal life without this Med.

Donnatol has not been taken off the market it is still widely available. Maybe your insurance carrier is not covering it. today is 01/09/2014 and I just received a full bottle of Donnatol for my IBS.

I agree, but you gotta think about the extreme shortage of the chemicals and manufacturing of barbiturates. the prison system is running extremely low on it for lethal injection. so it kinda makes sense...I just picked up 210 Donnatal name brand a hour ago. I pay $35 at walmart for 120 and my mom pays $15 at Walgreen's for 90.

Check with a compounding pharmacy to see if they will make a "generic" donnatal for you. I found one in South Carolina that would do 30 capsules for $100.

No, sorry dear, it isn't available in Canada at all. It is an 80 year old drug and my pharmacist claims that there is such little drugs in it that it has never been proved that it helps at all. Piss me off!!!! Let them lay on the couch and hang on to their guts with a heating pad and have no life at all!!!! He don't want me to take it. He wants me to take Humaira, which causes cancer and some organ failure. I have had Ulcerative Colitis since I was 19. I am 51 now. I guess I know what the hell I am talking about and Donnatal works!!! I went to his boss because my Rite Aid pharmacist thinks he knows it all. He can take his cancer causing drug and shove it up his A**. For 1 month supply they charge my insurance $2,770.00. I have to pay $65.00. I feel so guilty that I can get it and have a half decent life. Go to donnatal.com. There are numbers you can call. Don't give up!!! believe me I have to fight with my insurance Co. Went to fill a prescription for Donatal that I have been taking for many years. $530 for 8 ounces. Whats up with that??Sadly I could not afford it and have to either suffer or go with some bone destroying medication. Unbelievable!!!! Disgusting!!!!

Well, after my first post I resigned myself to paying $600.00 for my three month prescription (and half my normal dose). I was talking to one of my insurance reps and bless her heart she gave me three phone numbers for places I might get some help. The first two were no productive the the third may be some help. I am currently in the process of requesting help from a group called rxoutreach. This is a not for profit pharmacy whose mission is to provide affordable meds. It turns out the manufacturer of donnatal has provided (based on your income) donnatal for no cost. You must meet income requirement, provide identification, have your doctor send in the Rx. I am awaiting approval for my request, but this is the closest I have come to someone with a solution for me. It starts with asking for help (hard for some of us I know ;) !!! A hearty thanks to medschat and those of you that have posted before me for inspiring my search ;)

I'm so sick of this FDA bulls***. It seems like they want us to die. I developed a freaking ulcer because gynos do not want to rx pain meds and I have always used ibuprofen. I'm being treated like a drug addict over s*** I have been taking since the 90s. This is getting out of hand. I'm about to fly out of country to get meds and belladonna the generic was way better than Donnatal. Only stuff that works. I have been experiencing severe stomach pain for 3 months and was written up for work messing around with Zantac / Omeprazole - pure bulls***. Took back the few spares of donnatal I have and my pain was gone. I'm not high, I'm not sedated, so wtf is this addicting list. They just want people to drop dead and that's why people take illicit drugs and other drugs for pain because of this bulls***.

Here in MN my pharmacy was going to charge me $367 for 90 tabs because with my new insurance it is not covered. Ins said the Dr could ask for an exception, but then my Dr. says they have to try three other meds before they will approve the exception. What kind of craziness is this? Like so many others donnatol is the only thing that helps the horrible pain of IBS. Fortunately I do not have to take it often. Hope someone looks into this.

I now have no further problems getting my prescription for Donnatal. If it's any help, I get them at Rite Aid and the labeler is PBM Phama. I get 120 per refill, and it costs me $15. Not sure what happened differently, but can't say that i'm complaining anymore. Very grateful.

I just called my local Rite Aid and they can not get it- anywhere- and I asked specifically about PBM Pharmaceuticals....
I also fill all of my scrips at a mom and pop pharmacy, and they can not get it in the generic form either.
