Donnatal/belladona

I've been taking Donnatal and/or Belladona for over 10 years to treat IBS. When it was time for a refill, I was told both the brand name and the generic forms have been taken off the market. I am lost with these meds, that virtually eliminated the discomforts of IBS.
Re: CeCe in SLC (# 104)
I'm so sick of this FDA bulls***. It seems like they want us to die. I developed a freaking ulcer because gynos do not want to rx pain meds and I have always used ibuprofen. I'm being treated like a drug addict over s*** I have been taking since the 90s. This is getting out of hand. I'm about to fly out of country to get meds and belladonna the generic was way better than Donnatal. Only stuff that works. I have been experiencing severe stomach pain for 3 months and was written up for work messing around with Zantac / Omeprazole - pure bulls***. Took back the few spares of donnatal I have and my pain was gone. I'm not high, I'm not sedated, so wtf is this addicting list. They just want people to drop dead and that's why people take illicit drugs and other drugs for pain because of this bulls***.
Re: Lori (# 115)
You need to go to a small independent pharmacy.Such as a compounding pharmacy.
Re: Kristi (# 114)
I am in need of this med also is it coming back out ... Kroger pharm tells me looks like it might. However no one can get it. I need this med as I am taking 7 pills a day of 2 medications to try and replace but still not the same for my stomach :(
If you call the company that makes all the different medications, they will help you with getting your medicine at a discount or free!! No joke! They will send you an application and contact your Dr. for your prescription. I hope this helps you. GOD Bless.
Wow that is terrible the big Pharm bought the drug, then cornered the market, and jacked the price so market players and fat cats with no soul, can make extra billions. Well at least check out their assistance program, if you have little money it might be cheap or free. We were slightly above the limit, we're screwed. Maybe it will help:

That's good to know. I'm glad that it is still on the market. I hope Donnatol works for you. I am curious if your price was outrageous? Thank you.

My doctor just prescribed it. Costco pharmacy has it
Yes I did that as well. Painless easy process with rxoutreach. I did post about it a few months back sorry you didn't see it before you paid for yours. I think my comment was #101 or 102. And just so you know Donnatal is first on the FDA DESI list. They're looking to take it off the market I've been trying to keep up with news on the hearings.
Well, after my first post I resigned myself to paying $600.00 for my three month prescription (and half my normal dose). I was talking to one of my insurance reps and bless her heart she gave me three phone numbers for places I might get some help. The first two were no productive the the third may be some help. I am currently in the process of requesting help from a group called rxoutreach. This is a not for profit pharmacy whose mission is to provide affordable meds. It turns out the manufacturer of donnatal has provided (based on your income) donnatal for no cost. You must meet income requirement, provide identification, have your doctor send in the Rx. I am awaiting approval for my request, but this is the closest I have come to someone with a solution for me. It starts with asking for help (hard for some of us I know ;) !!! A hearty thanks to medschat and those of you that have posted before me for inspiring my search ;)
600 for 3 month supply is actually pretty cheap. That was for about one month for me. Check out msgs #106 I posted right before you so im.not repeating myself. Good lucn5
I have been on Donnatal then belladonna for over 20 years. It helps me with a number of ailments. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia (that has my neck and back muscles so tight they are crushing my spine), then IBS, and to top it off I have serious sleep issues. I have drug allergies that prevent me from taking codeine (and any derivatives) A cocktail of belladonna, flexeril, and cyclobenzaprine helps me. The drug company now wants 600 dollars for a three month supply and I simply cannot afford it. I feel like I did all those years ago and it gets worse daily. Thanks for your posts. I don't feel so alone in this, bless you ;)
It is no longer covered because it is on the FDA DESI list. It is in danger of being taken off the market permanently. I was able to get my rx through rxoutreach patient assistance for free. You can go check that out to see if you are eligible for their program. I was also told to email the FDA at [email protected] to tell them that this drug works for me and nothing else does and to please reconsider any decision to take it off the market based on the clinical trials showing it was ineffective in treating certain conditions. I suggested that maybe the conditions they were evaluating weren't the proper ones and did not accurately depict the drug for so many people. There's so many of us where it works wonders when nothing else helps.
I was getting Donnatal from CVS until my insurance excluded it and cost went to $1,863 for 90 days at 2 per day!!!
The drug is under fda reviews, which is questioning its effectiveness, and risk of addiction.

No its not just one time. They will continue to fill as long as your doctor provides refills or new scripts and your eligibility is still valid. For me i dont have much income and my obamacare insurance doesn't cover it at all so i qualified. Depending on your situation you may have no copay or a small one. This company rxoutreach is a huge non profit charity pharmacy they work with hundreds of pharmaceutical companies you can look them up.
Thank you. Is that outreach prescription a one time only offer? Thank you.
Donnatal is still on the market just not generic only brand name. Many pharmacies don't carry brand name anymore because the price is expensive and most insurance won't cover it. I went onto the donnatal website and filled out an eligibility survey to help cover costs with rxoutreach and was approved for $0 copay. My doctor will fax rx to them and I will get my meds in the mail. Check into that.
I have used Bemtyl (dicyclomine) for about 20 years. It is moderately helpful. I also use Hyoscyamine ER and SL. They seem to be more effective but they can be hard to find and Medicare won't cover. I pay $45 for 30 pills. Donnatal was much better but....
What drug are you referring to, please? Thank you.
Thanks for the info for the new drug that took its place.
