Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)
Lyrica is a dangerous drug (my opinion). I am a nurse that had life threatening side effects. Come on people lets get this ball rolling. There needs to be a legal suit.
I thought about that myself......lyrica is a dangerous drug with serious side effects.
The DEA is concerned about opioids for pain -
All the opioids I've used for pain NEVER gave me side effects like lyrica. It is a very dangerous drug .
Be VERY VERY CAREFUL with this medicine!!!!I was taking Lyrica for over a year when I began to not only experience memory loss but began to feel as though I may be having a stroke. Finally I went to the E.R. only to be life flighted to a hospital for aneurysms and bleeding in the brain....I KNOW IT WAS LYRICA that caused this. When I told my Dr. he still prescribed it for me. I myself stopped taking it and it was the WORST withdrawals I ever experienced...Still trying to find an attorney to handle this for me...
Many patients wonder why Lyrica has such a detrimental effect on health and as I read the FDA’s information on Lyrica ingredients, the Titanium Dioxide caught my eye, and further reading revealed the following:
TITANIUM DIOXIDE PROMOTES INFLAMMATION -
Given the size of titanium dioxide particles as well as the electrical charge, exposure to the mineral has been linked to oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. An increase in oxidative stress in the body stimulates cellular and DNA damage.
What are the ingredients In LYRICA?
- Active ingredient: pregabalin.
- Inactive ingredients (in LYRICA capsules): lactose monohydrate, cornstarch, talc.
- Capsule shell: gelatin and TITANIUM DIOXIDE.
- Orange capsule shell: red iron oxide.
- White capsule shell: sodium lauryl sulfate, colloidal silicon dioxide. (Colloidal silicon dioxide is a manufacturing aid that may or may not be present in the capsule shells).
- Imprinting ink: shellac, black iron oxide, propylene glycol, potassium hydroxide.
- LYRICA oral solution: methylparaben, propylparaben, monobasic sodium phosphate anhydrous, dibasic sodium phosphate anhydrous, sucralose, artificial strawberry #11545 and purified water.
I took Lyrica for 6 years, from 2011 to 2017 until I had black-outs and hearing problems in conjunction with non-stop hot flushes, and then discovered I was being poisoned by Lyrica. I stopped taking it in July 2017 and my hearing is back to normal, my eyes can focus and I don’t have black-outs anymore.
I was on Lyrica for neuropathic pain, and my wife told me about some studies on Lyrica. I found out that Lyrica can cause brain cells to die quicker and not regrow lke they should. If you google "can Lyrica cause brain damage" you should be able to access that information so you can decide for yourself. If it is helping you have a better quality of life and you can live with the side effects, you may want to continue taking this medication. The choice is always up to the patient, so educate yourself about this and all medications you take. Also look at drug interactions.
Re: Jenny Taylor (# 431)
Thanks for your reply. I would rather have the pain than memory loss. It really worries me. I've already started to taper off. I hope it will help. I don't want the memory loss to become permanent, I do suffer from insomnia also. It's funny because I mentioned that problem to my doctor and he didn't say it could be the Lyrica, he gave me some med to help me sleep instead. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Go figure.
I HAVE BEEN TAKING 100 GRAMS OF LYRICA 2XADAY. I AM HAVING PROBLEMS REMEMBERING AND FINDING MY WORDS. I HAVE BEEN ON IT 7 MONTHS NOW. I AM TAKING IT FOR DAMAGE NERVES IN MY LEG .
I have been on 300mg daily for 6 months now due to herniated discs in my lower back. What I have experienced or atleast noticed is weight gain (20lbs), loss of memory, loss of vocabulary, difficulty concentrating, lack of energy and the worst is I'm more clumsy. I spill stuff constantly. This med has worked wonders though and I really don't think I could of gone through this without it.
I was prescribed Lyrica 75mg for my spinal cord pain, then later my script was changed to pregabalin. Anyhow, both are the same, but in using Lyrica 75mg, I had side effects: confusion, weight gain, hair loss, forgetting names of people, but the worst was when I went to the ER in AUBMC (Lebanon) where I was shown to have short term memory loss. I'm now taking Vitamin B12 1mg, Buvable. If anyone reads about the side effects of Lyrica 75mg, I had all of them.
Re: Sheila (# 440)
it's not hormonal problem, it's lyrica side effect , i'm mostly forgetting names of person , confusing and lately i was in AUBMC emergency ( neurology case) my dr. script me vitamin b12 1mg. buvable . my hospitalisation case named : SHORT MEMORY LOSS , lyrica side effect.
I have been on Lyrica for four years at 75mg three times a day, but usually only one in the AM and PM. I also developed over the years many symptoms that were identical to different auto-immune disorders. The worst of which is AMENSIA, not memory loss which sometimes with enough prompting will bring back some memory. AMENSIA however, is a loss of time and never returns i.e., watching a movie with no recall the next day; participating in a project with no recall; people discussing very important decisions with no recall. This is the difference from memory loss to a block of time lost forever. It is a side effect that is very casually mentioned by the doctor prescribing or the pamphlet inside of the Lyrica box. This is permanent and worse yet is when you and your doctor begin the weaning off process may release more side effects and as difficult to wean off as opiates. Has anyone been weaned off of Lyrica? If so, please share your experience.
Just wondering how old the women with memory loss are.. I had memory loss and started taking hormones (I am 53) and I couldn't believe the difference. I just started on Lyrica for Fibromyalgia and have only been on that for a week. good luck everyone
I had a spinal cord injury in 05 and have been on Lyrica and high opiates for chronic pain. Lyrica, I take 900 mg a day is a wonder drug for me, without it I would not be able to function. Now the downside, It has caused me to have extreme weight gain loss of urine blurred vision, memory loss extreme, confusion and lastly I lost all my teeth. Unfortunatly for me I have all the side effects but couldnt live without it. I am on high doses of opiates which also contributed to teeth loss, there is a word for it something like xterior, defintley not the right spelling but there is a term for teeth loss due to meds
Well, at first I'd thought I'd give up the drug. But all my symptoms came back. I am on 600, yes 600mg per day. I will say that the memory, ability to spell, dsylexia will go away. Hard pill to swallow, no pun intended. So, now that I'm going great? The doc that prescribed the med to me (for 3 1/2 years), has left the MHMR. No one knows where she is and no one will write a script. I get it free from Pfizer but I need an MD signature. The best laid plans of mice and mice..... Here come the withdrawal sypmtoms....And the roller coaster begins. Well, now Im cryin the blues. I'll write a song. Thanks for reading.
Thank you everyone for letting me know about the memory-loss being linked with Lyrica. That settles it, I am going to get off Lyrica completely asap! There are alternatives, that do not affect your memory. I am on 300-400 mg per day, plus alternating Tylenol & Advil during the day, to lower the pain threshold. My pain is the after math of shingles, caused by damaged nerves. I take the Lyrica at night, because it makes me sleep all night.
My best alternative is essential oil of peppermint. My husband rubs in a few drops where my shingles pain is, and it replaces the pain with a cooling feeling that lasts for hours. Also we bought a TENS machine which we use daily to help normalize the nerves. One other thing: I found the same thing as another poster, that exercise helps my whole well-being, as well as reducing the pain, increasing my energy, etc. I try to exercise for 10 minute 2-3 x a day.
SIDE EFFECTS FROM LYRICA
ESPECIALLY FORGETFULNESS & LOSS OF WORDS AND VOCAB
Hi everyone. I was on 600 mg's of Lyrica. Had several memory spells, ets. I finally got to the point where I had to choose between my mind and my body, so to speak. I have been off Lyrica for a month. Every neuron in my brain is now functioning at optimal level!!! Yay! I love my mind. I too have gone toward alternative healling modallities. I am happy that I have taken my 'case' into my own hands, cuz only I know how I really feel. Thanks for listening.
I took Lyrica for 4 years and kept falling down. I fractured my arm near my shoulder, a disc in my back and landed on my tailbone so many times the doctors thought I had pelvic floor dysfunction - I was tested for MS, epilepsy and so many other diseases I would have to look back at my bills to find the names! I finally went to the Mayo clinic and the neurosurgeon there noticed I took Lyrica. He told me a side effect is buckling of the knees. BINGO! that's what was happening to me but I damaged my tailbone so many times the nerves are now compresed and I have terrible spasms and pain. I haven't fallen since I stopped taking Lyrica but am still suffering from all the falls. I also had memory loss, weight gain and depression (I went on Cymbolta for the depression). I hope this side effect is let known to all who take it in case they start falling! Good Luck to all of us!
I fully agree , with you .. this horrible drug has brain damaged my sons brilliant mind and dumbed him down , he laments the loss of his cognotive function and is in constant despair that he cannot learn , and study and achieve like he used to .. Even his ability at playing music has diminished considerably .There is a big cover up with this disgusting drug.
Nicolas why do you keep posting in this forum? This is your third post this evening all of them with at least 15 minutes between. You're not trying to Spam the forum/thread, are you? (Just asking).
Since I'm already posting here I'll give an update. I dropped Lyrica like a hot potato and almost immediately dropped 17 pounds...and my memory has dramatically improved over the past several weeks. It's still not what it used to be prior to Lyrica but it's better. Good timing because technology is taking massive leaps forward these days and I MUST have my memory/cognative functions as sharp as possible or I'll find myself w/o a job real quick.
If you're unsure about whether to take this or not PLEASE hear me: It's not worth it unless you do not care about these things. If you're a totally disabled person, living at home and a sharp memory isn't important then I do have to say that my pain has also returned with a vengeance. This drug DOES help (or it did me, anyway) with neuropathy - but the trade-off is very real to me and many others out here. I promise I am a real person and these are REAL events that happened to me. This drug is BAD NEWS.
