Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 22)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)

I can hardly believe I fell upon this page! I am off lyrica, elavil and celexa for 9 months and stll have serious memory loss, congestive heart failure, all kinds of neurological side effects, emotional outbursts, weight gain of 35# in a week, eye sight problems, new pain in legs and feet(wakes me up) no appetite, kidney and liver problems, tooth decay unreal, pains all different areas of my head, fearful and panic attacks. I can go on but I am getting a H/A from using the computer. I am a RN 4 30 yrs. and tried to refuse this med, but the pressure from my son and the MD. was getting out of control. I now kick myself every day knowing I made such a bad judgement call, and I want my brain and all my other organs BACK!!!! ps..my son disowned me anyway due to the inconvience of these side effects! WHAT GINY PIGS we all are. Trust the medical professionals.....what a joke!

I just started lyrica and already feel less pain. Am extremely hesitant about taking but thought I would try it. I recently lost about 50 pounds and don't want to gain them back. I am only taking 50mg once at night. Didn't know about the cognitive side effects. Anyone know if these side effects are as bad on low dosage?

Lyrica: After two and a half weeks on it (for neurogenic pain from spine injuries lumbar spine and cervical spine). Woke up, "buzzing electrical nerve symptoms better. Pain still there. Dizzy, stumbling, Gained 10 lbs, dry mouth, got tangled up in clothes and seat belts and purse straps all the time... constantly reversing words, couldn't hold train of thought, difficulty completing simple tasks in logical way, was way too "mellow" for my own good, swollen face, fluid retention (pitting edema), blurry vision, mouth burned inside, made orgasms almost non-existant. Last Straw: Add lips buzzing and tongue turned white and swelled to size of a giant bar of soap... Doc put me on massive Benadryl, and if swelling didn't go down in 2 hours, I was to get myself to an ER. Been off Lyrica for 3 weeks.

Extreme, prolonged dry mouth from Lyrica caused my right side parotid gland to clog up (saliva gland), now causing excruciating pain every time I take a sip or a bite. Gland could "die." Now I have to get an MRI tomorrow... may need surgery.

Lyrica works for some, but a lot of people I know who take it either: A. Are retired. B. Their children have grown up and left home. C. They don't have (or have never had) jobs. D. Their lifestyles are not demanding (do not demand that they function to a high degree). E. Live lives of leisure wherein "mellow" is fine. etc.

I wish Lyrica had been a "magic bullet" for me, because I need one or two, but, it was hellish. It still is.

My 18 year old son has not had Lyrica for ten months and his cognotive function , that is his memory , ability to calculate complex mathematical equasions has not returned to what it was before he started takeing Lyrica.

I would therefore conclude that Lyrica given to patients under the age of 18 in high doses that is 75mg x 2 + will cause irreversable changes to the way the brain functions . This drug has caused a profound dumbing down of what used to be a brilliant and gifted mind.

yes you will have memory loss. It is so frustrating not to be able to think of a simple word when you know it. Last night I went to introduce our former assoc. pastor to our new pastor and stumbled trying to think of his name; another bystander jumped in with his name; how embarrassing

Yes I had the same problem but never connected it to Lyrica I was taking 400 3 times a day for nerve pain. Lyrica caused my knees to buckle and I began falling a lot but as I see the other symptoms of Lyrica I have had many of them - especially loss of memory and mixing words. I also had a lot of trouble with numbers

Not trying to spam any one , I have been realy hurt by what this drug has done to my school age son and totaly disalusioned with the pain specialist who should have factored in what Lyrica was going to do to accademic performance , This drug was primarely responsible for my son needing to drop out of year 11 ,, four weeks into term 2 at an expensive private school. . He had his last dose in July 2010 and still moans daily that he just wants his brain back ... I believe there is drug company cover up regarding Lyrica...

Nicolas why do you keep posting in this forum? This is your third post this evening all of them with at least 15 minutes between. You're not trying to Spam the forum/thread, are you? (Just asking).

Since I'm already posting here I'll give an update. I dropped Lyrica like a hot potato and almost immediately dropped 17 pounds...and my memory has dramatically improved over the past several weeks. It's still not what it used to be prior to Lyrica but it's better. Good timing because technology is taking massive leaps forward these days and I MUST have my memory/cognative functions as sharp as possible or I'll find myself w/o a job real quick.

If you're unsure about whether to take this or not PLEASE hear me: It's not worth it unless you do not care about these things. If you're a totally disabled person, living at home and a sharp memory isn't important then I do have to say that my pain has also returned with a vengeance. This drug DOES help (or it did me, anyway) with neuropathy - but the trade-off is very real to me and many others out here. I promise I am a real person and these are REAL events that happened to me. This drug is BAD NEWS.

I fully agree , with you .. this horrible drug has brain damaged my sons brilliant mind and dumbed him down , he laments the loss of his cognotive function and is in constant despair that he cannot learn , and study and achieve like he used to .. Even his ability at playing music has diminished considerably .There is a big cover up with this disgusting drug.

My 17 year old son took Lyrica for a total of 6 months . He used to be a brilliant student , being able to cram the night before his exams and then blitz it the following day .. Since ceasing his 4 x 75 mg per day ,, he lamments the loss of his cognotive function and complains daily that he " just wants his brain back " he has not taken Lyrica since July 2010 . If i had known this would happen , i would never have allowed him to take this horrible medicine...

I, for one, wouldn't ever again touch Lyrica, with a 10 foot pole! 2 yrs ago I agreed with my GP to try it for severe Fibro pain of 20+ yrs. I have many probs with meds, especially new meds. This one messed with me worse than any med I've ever taken. The first 15 days were without incident, but no change in pain levels either. But, interestingly, absolutely NO side effects. However on day 15, my husband found me standing in the middle of our bedroom sobbing uncontrollably, and shaking like a leaf, yelling at him to 'DO SOMETHING! NOW!!!!' I have never in 55 yrs of marriage spoken like that to him! I had presence of mind to tell him to call our long time GP of 35 yrs, and it was determined the culprit was a side effect of Lyrica, and I was told to start titrating down off it, immediately. I had to stay in touch with GP for weeks after. I still wonder if short term memory loss , which only happens rarely, is due to this med. I don't intend ever using it again, tho, to find that out!.

My 17 year old son was takeing Lyrica for about 5 months at doses up to 300mg per day. He has not had a dose for over 5 months and is highly distressed at the fact his memory and cognitive functions still have not returned to normal. Lyrica is a disgusting drug , if i had know i would never have allowed my Son to take it.

I took Lyrica for 4 years and kept falling down. I fractured my arm near my shoulder, a disc in my back and landed on my tailbone so many times the doctors thought I had pelvic floor dysfunction - I was tested for MS, epilepsy and so many other diseases I would have to look back at my bills to find the names! I finally went to the Mayo clinic and the neurosurgeon there noticed I took Lyrica. He told me a side effect is buckling of the knees. BINGO! that's what was happening to me but I damaged my tailbone so many times the nerves are now compresed and I have terrible spasms and pain. I haven't fallen since I stopped taking Lyrica but am still suffering from all the falls. I also had memory loss, weight gain and depression (I went on Cymbolta for the depression). I hope this side effect is let known to all who take it in case they start falling! Good Luck to all of us!

I have to say I am extremely concerned...something is really wrong with my memory and I don't know if it's Lyrica or not. My doctor recently increased my dose to a whopping 550Mg/day in an attempt to help neuropathy.
I have rather gradually noticed a horrible decrease in memory over the past few months and it's so bad right now I have 'blank-outs' where I do something then seconds later completely forget what I've done. It doesn't happen often but it's happened.
Just wondering if Lyrica can even possibly be the cause.
I've moved my pain care to a specialist and she has actually told me, as of yesterday, to decrease my dose down to 300mg/day and only once per day, at night. I HOPE this helps (not to mention the weight gain I've experienced).

Hi everyone. I was on 600 mg's of Lyrica. Had several memory spells, ets. I finally got to the point where I had to choose between my mind and my body, so to speak. I have been off Lyrica for a month. Every neuron in my brain is now functioning at optimal level!!! Yay! I love my mind. I too have gone toward alternative healling modallities. I am happy that I have taken my 'case' into my own hands, cuz only I know how I really feel. Thanks for listening.
