Does Contrave Make You Sleepy (Page 2)

I started Contrave 4 days ago, today being my 5th dose. Every day, I take the pill about 8am and by 9:30-10am I am so sleepy I can't stand it. Days 1 and 2 I managed to fight it off until about 12-12:30, day 3 until about 1-1:30, and day 4 I fought it off until 3pm. If I take a 1-2 hour nap, I wake up fine, with energy and then cannot get to sleep until about 2am, sometimes 3am. Today is day 5, I'm having that "drunk" feeling and sleepy, but no where near how it has been. It seems this effect is slowly wearing off, but I haven't seen anywhere where this is a common side effect. I know all medications effect everyone differently, so I'm wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, or just another side effect that I will get used to as the weeks go on?

Your own body makes hcl. It’s added to drugs to make it easier to absorb.

Update on my nausea. My nausea symptoms appear to be gone. I’ve continued the dosage as prescribed. It seems my body adjusts and it levels out. Right now I’m symptom free. ??

Today is day 2 for me also and I am at work and feel like I want to doze off. Does this feeling go away or get better? I'm all for losing weight but not if it's going to affect my performance at work.

I just read this is to help you loose weight? Has so many side effects! Says you cannot take any pain meds with this either,,,

I also had terrible sore throat/neck, to the point it hurt to turn my head. Sick constantly and barely able to stay awake. No way I could stay on this drug...

I have zero drowsiness while taking Contrave. I started immediately taking it when it was prescribed. I had dry mouth which is now gone. I’m having slight nausea but not to the point of vomiting. I’m hoping it subsided soon as the other did. I’m down 20 lbs and thrilled. Good luck!

I have been taking this for almost a month and I can noticed a huge difference in my eating habits. However, Yes it made me very TIRED when I took two pill twice a day. So for me I changed it to 1 in the morning 1 a little before lunch 1 when I get home and 1 at bedtime. This has worked a lot better for me. Also my stomach was not upset. This won't work for everyone but it did for me.

I am shocked at the replies that I'm seeing here!!! The ingredients in Contrave are the same as SUBOXONE! SUBOXONE is used to help opiate addicts wean OFF their DRUGS!! They use it to detox the addict before recovery can begin. Also, the addict has to be in a state of withdrawal in order for it to take effect. Otherwise the side effects are most definitely a feeling of drunkenness and sleepiness! It is also a highly addictive substance and needs to be monitored very carefully.

WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF AN OPIATE EPIDEMIC IN THIS COUNTRY!! The FDA had cracked down so hard on opiate prescriptions. Why are they allowing this?

I have been on Contrave for 5 days. I had a headache for the first 3 days. I sleep about 3 hours at night before I wake up and am awake the remainder of the night. The crazy dreams are "way too crazy". I am concerned this morning because I started itching on my upper chest, back, and shoulders during the night and now look as though I was bitten by something. We have searched the area and there is no indication of a bite. I have allergies and had to stop my Zyrtec because I am having new allergy testing this week. I have no way of knowing if this is an allergic reaction to Contrave or just because I stopped my Zyrtec.

I just started the second week (2 pills) I have started having terrible neck throat, diarrhea, nausea & mind fog. I have lost 2 lbs. but I'm not for sure if it's worth feeling like this. Anyone else have the throat pain & diarrhea & if so does it go away???

Today is my second day taking Contrave... I start to feel very tired about 3 hours after taking the pill also.

I also felt sleepy, but it never improved for me. By the time I was up ti 2 pills in the AM and 2 in the PM, I was pretty much struggling the whole day.

HCL is not a poison in the case of the version used in medication. See Definition here:
HCL is the medical friendly, water and acid soluablle, salt version of an amine. Amines are converted to a salt form for their standardized and predictable rates of solubiliy and absorption. Think of HCL's as though you were making a glass of koolaid. You want the koolaid to dissolve easily and quickly as well as dispersrse evenly in the water. You don't want clumps or undissolved pieces etc.when you stir it up. HCL's accomplish this, thereby enabling them to be handled easily and administered evenly and efficently.

Noprexone is different from Suboxone and that it is non-habit forming. I am a case manager with the Department of children and families and most of our recovering clients have switched to naproxen for this reason. No need to worry about an opiate addiction from contrave.

I have been on Contrave for 4 days now and I totally feel the same way. I am so tired, the first day I took a nap at work and I never can even take a nap. I have headaches as well. I hope this will go away soon. Thanks for writing, now I know I'm not alone.

You have to take it every 12 hours, so you will have to take at least one dose in the morning.
