Does California's State Medi Cal Cover Suboxone And The Dr

Does California's state insurance Medi Cal cover the doctor visits on suboxone and that medication? I live in Southern California. Any information would help. Thank You !!!

Hi Danielle,

I believe you may have to contact MediCal directly for up to date information on coverage. As from what I'm seeing online, Naloxone (one of the active ingredients in Suboxone) is listed on the drug formulary that was updated on May 20th, 2015 - But no apparent sign of brand name Suboxone in and of itself; or generic Buprenorphine - the other active ingredient in Suboxone.

Based on the info above, my guess is that they don't provide coverage, but for verification you can reach California's MediCal at: 1-800-541-5555 (8am-5pm Monday through Friday)
