Thanks, Sara! It doesn't refill for 4 more days, but when they refused to fill his last morphine prescription, he asked them to transfer his norco refill prescription to the local pharmacy - one mile away - that WOULD fill his morphine prescription, so there would be no problems in the future - and they flatly refused. Most places are still filling this doctor's prescriptions, only some big chain stores, like Meijier's and Rite-Aid are refusing, and won't say why.
I had intended to put up a stink if they refused to transfer it to a pharmacy that would take it - the current law says that a scheduled drug refill may be transferred once - and now you have shown me how.
MUCH APPRECIATED!

BL, as I just explained to Sara, most places are still taking this doctor's prescriptions.

Meijier's and Rite Aid have stopped, but every other local pharmacy will fill them. When Rite Aid refused to fill his last morphine prescription, he went a mile down the road to the local IGA pharmacy, and No Problem! Also, I was able to get his heart-med refills transferred to a pharmacy on my way home for work, no problem! But, Rite-Aid is just saying it won't transfer scheduled drug refill - they did his heart meds, but won't his norco.

Go Figure.....I can't. And, thanks for your help, I greatly appreciate it.

Politicians can be as helpful as they are hurtful. I went to my State Representative when in Colorado, sat and asked to see her about my pain issue and said I would gladly wait...

I sat for 2 hours quietly crying. I wasn't disruptive..didn't bother anyone. Just let tears roll down my cheeks.

Every person who HAD an appointment mentioned me waiting...lol. and how upset they were by it.

So she called me in, made some calls and I had a proper appointment that week with a good pain specialist...hers!!!

DO NOT BE AFRAID to advocate for yourself!!!

Thank you so much, Sara! And, Everyone Else here!

I cannot tell you how helpful You All have been.

I am afraid my husband may give up and commit suicide - we have always been dog lovers and had many beloved dogs over the years, and have often had to decide when to "put them out of their suffering", and I think my husband is starting to think the same way.

But, he is a smart man, and was politically active in his youth - also a volunteer fireman, EMT, and then paramedic, along-side being a UAW hourly auto-worker for his financial career - so he might find new life in lobbying for pain patients.

The next few months will tell. I am terrified that it will be too much for him and he will just decide to end it. The thing is, he is a UAW early retiree (due to his accident and heart condition), so he is collecting a partial pension, and also getting Social Security Disability - so I think it is in the different "powers-that-be" benefit if he dies.

He costs his insurance too much (he has Blue Cross/ Blue Shield), and he has a partial pension for GM, which has great financial troubles - and he has SS security disability. Also, some retiree benefits. I think it just may be to all those corporations' financial benefit if he dies. so they may just bounce him around until he does.

Is that "paranoid" on my part, or could it be part of the problem?

Thanks, again!

Are you trying regular doctors or pain management specialists?

With ALL your records and updated tests, a specialist should oversee your pain management.

Regular doctors won't help anymore.

Being pain free is just not realistic any longer. In almost every case, the drs want you to use other forms of pain management besides meds. The more help you get with other forms of pain management, the less meds you need for pain management. Things like injections, physical therapy, accupuncture, counseling, etc are some other forms of pain management.

Need the name of an internal med specialist who won't be a whining problem child about writing a pain control script in South Saint Paul/ Burnsville/Prior Lake Minnesota area? I am finding it hard to tolerate having to beg for a script of 30 minimum dose Vicodin pills. This has been an ongoing battle despite the EBM that there is some pain concerns. I do not feel I should have to beg or spend tons of time trying to get a doctor who I pay...to write a simple script. I am aware the feds watch controlled substances but 30 pills a month is barely worth being concerned for most doctors. Tired of doctors who are pretty much useless and argumentative. I dislike people playing GOD with me.

Bruce-i know it's hard to accept. But internal specialists won't put their licenses on the line for 30 pills unless your injury is new.

For older stuff, it now HAS to be a pain management doctor. The DEA is taking away licenses and doctors are terrified.

Everyone has their head down during this all out witch hunt.

One day soon, we need a million patient march...If we weren't all so damned sick!

Maybe on the internet... If i had the tech skils, I'd organize it in a minute!

Jack-as of 2014, the DEA is requiring chronic pain people to go to a pain management specialist.

Even if you take only a few. If your injury isn't new, your regular doctor won't prescribe.

Ask your doc for a referral to a specialist in your insurance network to have it covered.

Or medicare. Whatever you've got that could pay.

There is no patient assistance out there for narcotics anymore.

It's a witch hunt. Be prepared to support for illness. Anything your doc can send to support your case would help.

Private pay is crazy expensive.

Have your old records! Good luck.

Sara is incorrect. There are no requirements for a chronic pain patient to be treated by a Pain Management Dr. Most PCP's aren't comfortable treatkng chronic pain patients, but some still do.

Actually, PCP doctors can keep what they call a "short list" of patients that take pain meds, usually hydrocodone. As long as they treat 75% more patients that are there for meds other than pain meds, my wife's DR. let over 30 patients go last July 1st, sending them to pain managment clinics but explained to my wife that he would keep her and a few others, she takes 120 10/325 hydros every month..I am not sure if he would have kept her if she was taking morphine or oxycodones but hydros are ok...

BL-THIS is what I was told for the state of CA by a PCP who also has a pain management specialty.

Maybe the states are different for their own reasons? ???

Again, idk, one hears so many different things out there....

I'm no DEA expert :) That's how it was explained to me.

West TN. between Memphis and Nashville... I travel to Murfreesboro every month, my PCP had to open a pain clinic after July 1, 2013 when the new laws took effect for the fiscal year, even though I have been his patient for the last 6 years I had to start all over, they took my fingerprints, mug shot, criminal background check, drug panels and a contract of do's and don'ts... Of course I had narcotics in my system because the Dr. had given them to me, the state law officer that was taking the info thought I was a new patient and wanted to see my records, I told him to ask the doctor there for them, LOL. Even though I was an established patient with this Dr. the state forced him to open a pain clinic and treat all patients like criminals, but you have to do what you have tio do and play their game, they hold all the cards... The same time as this, July 1, 2013 my wife's DR. told her that he had to dump some of his patients and send them to pain clinics so he could be under the allowed number of pain patients, AKA the short list as he put it which she is still on and still goes every month for her hydros....

Most states have laws regarding when a drs/clinics patients are all chronic pain patients. State laws also say who can and can't own the one of these clinincs. There is a huge difference in that and the belief that no other dr besides a pain management dr is able to write for pain meds. Any dr can write a rx for pain meds for chronic pain patients as long as their DEA License & CDS License are current and no disciplinary action has been taken by the state. It all comes down to how many patients they are treating that are chronic pain patients if they have to open up a actual pain clinic in order to continue treating those patients. These are state laws requring this and not federal laws.

Does anyone know of a Dr who does not have a problem prescribing these and is not judgmental from the get go? I do not want to dr hop but start out with a dr and stay with him/her for as long as I am here in Abilene.
