Ty for this info. As long as I stay w my present Dr., she will attempt to get me off my oxy, which I have been for 6 yes now. Yet she'll let me have morphine -she " believes in them"!!! Am allergic to acetaminophen, but she prob won't even pay attention to that fact.
Feel like a drug addict just asking for help for severe chronic pain due to bone spurs on my vertebrae.

Veteran,
I was reading your post to Linnetta, and agree with you that the system is screwed up. I don't believe for one moment that the DEA wants to stop illegal drug use. I think there is too much job security in the way it works now. If they stop it, they are out of a job. DEA can impose rules on pharmacies and doctors, which are what I call "feel good" rules, so that they can say to the public, look at what we are doing to stop illegal drug usage. The pharmacies and doctors are not the biggest part of illegal drug usage. It's just an easy out for DEA, rather than admitting that they are doing nothing but wasting billions of taxpayers dollars. FDA has been taking the easy way out for a long time now too, with their rules and regulations. It's really easy to impose rules on law abiding citizens, so that's what they've been doing. Their excuse for all their mistakes and lack of action is "we do that to stop drug abuse". Bull S!!

There are "specials" on TV that show the drug mill doctors operating in FL and some of the other states, that are cash only, no medical records required, hundreds of dollars cost per office visit and you can walk out with a prescription for oxycodone 80mg for 180 and more pills. DEA show how they have all this on tape, and have been investigating it for 2 or more years. OK, so why are these pill mills still in business? Why do you need 2 years of video tape to take it to court? It only takes 1 illegal buy of $25 to arrest a street dealer, so why 2 years to shut that sort of crap down? They showed a tape of a drug dealer in NY City that they had been following for nearly 6 years, but couldn't find him doing anything illegal. Well, if after several months you can't find the guy doing anything illegal, move on!! How can you actually justify following one guy for 6 years and you have nothing on him.

This website is also full of questions from people who are taking prescription pills illegally and are worried about passing a drug panel, so that says there is a problem with illegal prescription use, which makes it hard for the legitimate chronic pain patient. As it's so easy for DEA to target us, rather than the drug cartels who are bringing in millions and millions of dollars worth of meth and H, that's what they do. We are the easy target. I think that meth and H should be legalized and sold just like a liquor store sells liquor. Prohibition is what made Al Capone rich and gave the mafia it's huge start in the US. Legalize all the drugs, 21 years old to purchase, the customer knows what they are buying, you put the drug cartels out of business, and you cut down on all the street dealers violence, chronic pain patients can get their medications, pharmacies will have less paperwork, everything easier. Give the DEA jobs enforcing the rules at the new "Meth" stores, checking IDs to be sure people are really 21. Yes you will have drug addicts, but you have them now. Free up the drug convictions, let those guys out of prison. If you steal or break a law to support your drug habit, we send you to prison, cause we now have room for you.

What happened with the neighbor and court thing? Did you get a way to fix the swamp cooler yet? How is your ex doing? OK girl, fill me in LOL
How is your pain level doing? I have had a few "bad" days in a row, but I think it's my own fault. I think I was pushing too hard since about Weds of last week, so am now paying for it.
Another crazy thing to add to my saga list LOL. I applied in May for the Supplemental Low Income help thing on the Medicare website. I was approved. Got a letter that said so. I also helped a few other people apply for the SLI thing. They were approved also. They have all received a refund of the premium that they were paying for Medicare (the $100 something), anyway that portion is controlled by the State. I have less income than any of the people I helped, but I did not get approval for that portion. So I contacted the Social Services people who are running the State portion of the program to find out why. The State computer has me listed as a disabled person but also has me listed as a working person, with no listing of where I work and no listing of how much I am suppose to be earning Oh My Goodness!! Case worker called me back and said that the problem had been corrected and I am now approved and will be receiving a letter saying that. So far no letter, and Medicare took my $100 plus premium out of this month check again. $100 is a lot of money to me.
Don't know if you saw the post, but my prescription saga did go well this month, and I have regular non poison oxycodone 10mg and my Opana ER, so this month will have pain control, if nothing else goes right LOL

Sorry to hear that you are still in pain, I was hoping that when you said you had weaned yourself off your pain medication, that you were feeling lots better. I have a friend who weans himself off every once in awhile. He does that so that he doesn't have to ask for an increase in his pain medication, as he gets a tolerance and it doesn't work as well. Then he starts over, but the pain medication works better for him again.
I agree completely that the federal government has taken too much power away from the individual states. The Constitution gave a few powers and responsibilities to the federal government and gave the rest to each State. Somehow Congress and the White House have slowly taken away the rights of each State. You are also right that we are in danger with this situation, and people don't even see it.

I served years on active duty and then years on active reserves. But that doesn't seem to matter to anyone but me. Recently I got a call from a sub contractor who was representing the VA, checking to see if I was receiving any assistance from VA. Nope. The local VA representative had told me I wasn't entitled to anything, so I got by without their help. Got a letter from VA saying that I am entitled to benefits, but it didn't say what sort of benefits or who to contact. I figure someone will get around to sending another letter or may be a phone call LOL

So sorry to hear about your disc. Many of us who post here, have chronic pain conditions and don't expect to ever get well or expect to ever be totally pain free. I know it probably isn't much help to know that you aren't alone in what you face, but I do hope it is some comfort. We all truly understand what daily pain is like and the problems the pain can cause you, all on it's own. It really is a lot to face every day. We are all here for you, to listen when you need it.

I don't know the answer to helping you find a pain management doctor, but asked everyone to chip in with ideas. What part of the country are you in?

Before medication was added to my pain management, I did all the things that I'm sure you have tried. On some really high pain days, I still add those little things. Yesterday I tried my TENS machine. It did help some, but I have to be careful how much I use it, cause it can trigger my fibromyalgia, which then I have the combination of everything hurting.
You can try the warm showers, heating pad, Ben Gay, icing and all that sort of thing, they sometimes help a little. I'm sure none of it will help much, without an actual pain management program that works for you in place, but hopefully the little things can provide you with some relief, until you find a doctor.
Again, we are all here for you, when you need people who will listen.

Everybody
People looking for doctors,
Runt in Bay City TX, Loner in Tyler TX, Does anyone have any ideas how they can find a doctor there? How did you find your doctor? Any ideas to help them at all?
I'm not much help because I had a friend who got me into the doctor I'm seeing. If I didn't have that friend, I really don't know what I would have done.

Dear friends... I'm 47 years old and I live in NJ ...I have a very painful disease called Crohn's disease since 10 years old ...I have had Multiple bowel resections...currently another awful stricture again..blood counts as low as 6.9 and painful arthritis, etc... I'm in pain all the time ..the medications they Give for crohns are dangerous and don't work for me not to mention extremely dangerous for someone with a stricture... I'm so upset of how pain management has changed...I get some help but since things have changed it so difficult to be properly managed and not treated like a drug addict... My dad and his two brothers died of crohns and I have lost my mom to a mistake made during a simple hernia surgery...they just want to keep cutting rather than help my pain when the disease for me comes right back after surgery and the more issues come from another surgery...my pain management dr said maybe I should just get all my intestines removed...really??? What an option because everyone is afraid to prescribe anymore ...he said he's afraid too because if he prescribes anything reasonable his license is at risk...btw besides pain meds helping me to function and survive there are studies that show it actually helps crohns and other diseases medically!!! I bet you all didn't know that...for me it works on the immune system in a way that it helps to regulate it...you can goggle it if you want...fabulous for people with bad arthritis etc... On the other hand I do believe it should be prescribed for people who really need it and carefully managed and used within reason... It's just gotten so bad... I never had a problem until recently...now it's almost impossible to get help and if you try another dr. It's called dr. Shopping ... Why can't we see as many as we need until we find one that will help and understands... It all makes no sense to me and its horrible to let people suffer.. Almost all medications you take you can't just stop..it's not just pain meds... I wish I could find a dr who isn't afraid or will fight back for us!!!! This was never a problem for me until last year.. Please folks let's fight back .... any suggestions appreciated...

Veteran,
It isn't the oxycodone that is the problem, it is the KVK Tech brand that is the problem. The KVK Tech brand doesn't help the pain for many people and it makes many people sick. I am trying to give the FDA the benefit of the doubt when it comes to medicine on the market that isn't effective and is making people sick like the KVK Tech brand of oxycodone. There is something in their pills that is making people sick. If it makes a person sick in the short term, there is no telling what it will do to your body in the long run. You are probably right that the FDA won't do anything to fix the problem and will most likely let KVK Tech keep selling a medication that doesn't work. But I do know one thing for sure, if the FDA doesn't know there is a problem, it doesn't give them the chance to fix it. I know that if I am the only one who complains, they will ignore that. All over this website under different sections, people are complaining that the KVK Tech oxycodone doesn't do anything for their pain and makes many of them sick, so if they all let the FDA know that, the FDA will know that it isn't just one person, it's lots of people. The FDA might let KVK Tech know about the problem and perhaps they could "fix" the problem, and then their pills won't make as many people sick and would stop people's pain. Since KVK Tech is making huge amounts of money on selling oxycodone, I would be really surprised if they took it off the market. I would figure KVK would improve the product, so that they could continue to make huge amounts of money. Again, you are probably right that the FDA won't do anything to fix the problem, even when they know it's all over the country that people are having a problem.

KVK Tech isn't the only pharmaceutical company making oxycodone, there's lots of companies that make very good oxycodone. I have been able to get at least three different brands, that are "made in the USA" and work wonderful and don't make me sick. The problem is that peoples local pharmacies aren't buying the other brands for their customers. I have had four pharmacies explain why. CORPORATE GREED. KVK Tech gave the large pharmacy chains a huge price cut on the price of the pills, so that they would buy them and not the other brands. Walgreens, Safeway, Kroger are three of the pharmacies that are making a huge profit on selling the KVK Tech brand. None of the three pharmacies passed any savings on to customers. I've been reading in sections on this website, where Walgreens has been actually charging more money for the KVK Tech than they were for the other brands. God Bless Greed.

If KVK Tech brand works for some people and doesn't make them sick, that's great. But for all of us that can't take KVK Tech products, we should have the option of buying another brand. Not be forced to take a pill that makes us sick.

I am one of the "silly" people, who thinks that sometimes filling out complaint forms and letting the right people know there is a problem, can sometimes work.

CO SUSIE: The site your sending people to. To Report side affects and issues? Why would we do that? Why would we give them more ammo? Just because oxycotin I get horribly sick with does not mean it does not do wonders for others. I am confused as to why you would ask us to report medications and the ill affects when we are TRYING to keep what little we can get if we are luck enough to get.

Well it's all good to go to Washington and March, but most of us can't march, let alone travel. I can't afford long distance, to make calls, either. I am just doing what I thought would help. However, I am writing to President Obama, on his "Front Porch," site and telling him stories of mine and others, to get his attention. But, he doesn't have pain, he doesn't understand, yet, I will be a pain in his side, if nothing else. But, it does take more than one person to be a pain, to him. This is why I've posted his site, so everyone can write, that way, telling their stories. If we fill up his website/mailbox, it must get some attention.

Co Susie, thank you for your great support. I do appreciate all you have written and trying to get people to read my posts. You are a good person, suffering too, so I think there will be a special place in heaven, for you. I won't be able to reply to everything, you wrote, as I am in more pain, than ever. On top of that, it is going to be in the high 90's and my swamp cooler has leaked into my dining room. I can't run it now, so it will be very hot and I am not heat tolerant. I will have to figure something out, hoping to find someone to help me with this. In the meantime, I am staying in bed, in front of a fan. I will be thinking of everyone and may GOD bless you all....

Always,
Marianne

No. Hardly can use my hands still in a lot of pain from my herniated disc and rotator cuff And knees. But it just got more painful being screwed around by a government that you served six years for your rights and then they have taken them all. Until we all stand they gather as a nation go march on DC by the millions petitions calls to your congressman or senator's will not do the bid a good. The only way when you call your congressman or if you call a senator they have to vote on the fifth amendment of the Constitution which gives the State right take back your right. It was put into the Constitution just for a reason like this the government tells your state what it has to do it they both with the fifth amendment did you State is not have to follow all those government Obama laws. Or as far as that goes a lot of other laws that are on just to you your family friends that were written before this communist Obama came in office. Please tell your friends family and anybody else to tell them to get the states rights back from the government because if we do not start now you dumb for it's going to get worse and worse and worse. Read the fifth amendment in the Constitution read the fifth amendment in the Constitution. And as for the pain I'm in pain that I was before i started the pain medicine

LINNETTA: YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. WE ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ANY ISSUES. NOT EVEN A CRUMB. EXCEPT TO THE DEA AND FDA. However these facilities have no problems releasing medications that young boys end up with breasts, medications that cause cancer, death and if you really listen, these side affects are very scary. But they are worried about us, "accidentally overdosing". What a crock of s***. They release drugs that ACTUALLY KILL people but there number one concern is the pain sufferer. Go figure. I will disagree with one thing, it won't be the final pill. It will send people to the streets to get help. This way the DEA can keep their jobs. Since they can't get a handle at all on the meth problem lets screw with the chronic pain sufferers who WOULD be contributing to society if we could move, but without the aide of medications we can't. When someone important steps up with chronic pain, then maybe it will be taken seriously.

linnietea,
Reading the posts, you know I got a lot to say about your last post LOL I don't know what President Obama thinks personally about the chronic pain patients, but I don't believe his "front porch" is there because of his personal beliefs. In fact I seriously doubt that he even reads it. I'm fairly certain that a political aide reads it. President Obama isn't the last democrat that will run for office, and that's why the numbers of chronic pain patients who contact them is important. As long as we vote, and pay taxes, there is some consideration given to our opinion, because we also have family and friends who vote. We spend a lot of money on medications, so even if the pharmaceutical manufacturers try to ignore us, they too will take notice if it effects their pocket.

Foreign policy plays a large part in release of Americans held in other countries, and as the public we aren't always aware of all the implications involved in the release of an American held on foreign soil. We are only aware of what the government decides to release to the Media, and what the Media decides to release to us. By the time the "facts" get to us, there may not be much fact left. We could debate the benefits of the release of the Army soldier who the US did take measures in his behalf. Turns out he left his duty post and wanted to become involved in that mess. Pretty much his choice to be in that situation.

Euthanasia is a whole topic. There may be cases that euthanasia is a reasonable option. The biggest concern would be, who gets to make the decision if it is reasonable or not. Are you chronically ill? What pain issues are you suffering with? We do care.

Many of you may think this insensitive, but President Obama-doesn't give a rip about us pain patients,we're just another group of losers to him.The marine Sgt held in Mexico,he has had a petition over 100,000 /jack has happened -all the president would have to do is pickup the telephone. Do you realize it's been 3+ months.
The Christian pastor, being tortured in Iran,I'm sure is suffering,Obama hasn't intervened at all.
Writing the president isn't gonna do a thing,if he's not willing to help these people,Please!. WE ARE PART OF THE OBAMA PLAN:
The end- basically that no one cares about.Haven't you figured yet,if pain is the issue-pain is an illness.which has no cure just maintenance.Sooner or later,we will all end up being given a final pill.
The antidote for chronic pain.-euthanasia .
Whether you believe or not; the government doesn't give a damn how much we hurt, how bad it screws up our lives.
If we aren't productive,we are takers.. I'm sorry if you're offended, life sucks sometimes, truth sometimes sucks more!!!

Marianne,
I know you are gone for a few days, but it'll all and I do mean all LOL, will be waiting for you when you get back LOL. I agree with what you were saying about college. It's so nice for those families who could afford to send their children to college. I believe it really made a huge difference in the earning power of people who are in our age group. Then student loans and grants were made available to almost the entire population, which seemed to affect the value of the college degree.
Have run into several young people in their 20s who have just graduated and used student loans and grants (if they qualified). They owe lots of money now and for some silly reason they feel as if they should be earning 80 grand a year or more, without any work experience and without working their way up in their profession. Now, unfortunately they are using their lack of the 80 grand a year job, to justify why they aren't paying back their student loans. You borrowed it, you owe it. Truthfully they don't seem to be as well educated as most of us were, when we came out of high school. Worked in the office with a few of these type of young people, who can't spell, can't compose a letter, have no math skills. I'm not sure what they paid the large sums of money to the college to learn.

I didn't have a family that could afford to pay for me to go to college. There was also, even at that point in time, an attitude in that part of the country of why should a woman go to school, she's just going to get married and raise children. She will never work long enough to earn back what was spent to educate her LOL. To give them a little credit, they didn't realize that our economy would get to the point that the "stay at home" mom would get rare. In many situations it takes both mom and dad working to provide what a family with growing children need.

I had to continue my education in bits and pieces. 3 courses short of my degree, I finally decided as I was getting closer to the end of my working career, it just didn't matter any more if I had the degree or not. Paid off the student loans that I owed and thought that maybe at some point in my 60s, I would get that piece of paper so that I could frame it LOL.

Between us, we have a total of five children who are all married. One son is an electrician, one son is in sales, one son has a college degree in computer science, neither of the daughters work, they are both married to military men. The electrician son is married to a cosmatologist (does hair dang it LOL), the salesman is married to a Property Manager (with a college degree), the son in computer science is married to a stay at home mom (with a college degree and he is repaying her student loans LOL). The salesman and property manager have the highest income by a large amount, the electrician and the computer science son are about tied in earnings but with the family of the electrician having the higher total family income because she does hair and the other doesn't have a paying job. Coming in last in earnings are the two military families, but it's their choice to be stay at home moms rather than have that extra income. Being in a trade, selling, hair (a service), are fields that can pay well without that piece of paper. Lucky for us, all five families are able to afford to live a middle class life, with reasonable autos, money for vacations, all the things we weren't and still aren't able to afford. All with 3 "stay at home" moms in the group, as rare as they are becoming.

I thank God that all five families are in good health (except for the daughter with the bad back) and are able to afford all the things that we weren't. They all work hard for everything that they earn. They all know what the word "save" means, they all pay the debts that they owe, and they are all relatively happy with great kids. We couldn't ask for anything else for them. We are very blessed.

Anyone else who is having trouble with a particular brand of medication, the FDA has a website, that you can let them know what sort of side effects and problems you are having. It's fda.gov, then you select Report a problem, then you select Begin Report as a consumer/patient.
