Doctors In Michigan That Prescribe Methadone (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI'm interested in finding a private doctor's office (not a clinic) that will prescribe methadone. I can't afford these clinics! Does anyone know of a doctor???
Im looking for a Doctor Who can prescribe my methadone I was attending a clinic for 2 1/2 year but now that I'm back working and taking classes on top of being a single mom going to a clinic every day and schedule of meetings and scheduled groups it's really hard with my schedule it worked out great in the beginning but things have changed I really need a private physician who can help me
i am on the methadone clinic and have been for about three months ... my boyfriend is on suboxone and has been a little longer than me . i hate driving two hours one way everyday but love the clinic my boyfriend has really good insurance and hates the suboxone ... at first it was ok but now he can barley sleep on it and it makes him soo mean everything makes him mad . if anyone knows of a doctor in michigan like kalamazoo area or anywhare that would perscribe him methadone please let me know. please help us. thanks a lot
I also live in Royal Oak and see the aformentioned Dr. P. The majority of his patients are there for pain meds, and he is usually willing to give you what you want, although he does treat patients differently as far as dose levels; leaving some patients on higher doses that really have no pain and not cutting their dose, while other patients who have proof of chronic pain and take as prescribed are sometimes put on lower doses and are periodically lowered even more. I know of at least 3 people who get Methadone from him that have no chronic pain or x-rays/other tests to proove their need.
You may have approached him wrong if you were tuned down. For example did you tell him that you had been on Methadone before and that it works best for you. Unfortunatelly, honesty is not always the best policy when it comes to certain doctors. Methadone is a very strong and long acting narcotic that when taken by someone with little or no opiate tolerance can be fatal at doses as low as 40mg, if xanax is used with methadone it can be extremely fatal as it raises the blood levels of the methadone in your body.
I have been on methadone for 20 plus years and credit it for saving my life, so don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in its theraputic uses. However, you must realize when making this decision that you may end up needing it for the rest of your life! I have seen VERY few people ever sucessfully detox off of methadone and manage to stay clean, for that matter though I have seen just as few addicts using street drugs quit and remain clean. Not that it doesn't happen, it's just a hell of disease that very little isreally kown about. For me I prefer to stay on methadone and lead a stable life free of all the consequences that come with an addiction to illicit drugs. If you havn't used opiates for too long and/or don't take massive amounts I would recommend that people try all the alternatives; suboxone (I know it's pricey), detox with therapy, 12 step programs. For those who really have chronic pain that's only going to get worse the right medicine can give you your life back.
Those who saw Dr. P. please reply and let me know how you asked him for the methadone, including any history with the drug.

I have taken Methadone for pain for the past 10 years.I moved and because of insurance reasons I had to change doctors now I cant seem to find a doctor who will perscribe Methadone for pain. I tried to go to the clinic and they let me come for a week but dropped me because Im a pain patient not an addiction patient. Does anyone know of a doctor near Muskegon MI?
Dr. Pinson and he is still taking new patients
Travel hardship take homes can be 14 days or up to 30 days.but most met clinics do not tell anyone about this they say u need federal approval which is not true its State approval. Marilyn Miller in lansing was head of methadone office.I m not sute if that's changed to someone else by now.But I had e mailed her on this topic and its true.look on state of mi website for any info about state policy.

Im in the same boat, ive been on methadone for about 6 years (at a clinic). i was an opiate addict, self medicating for bad depression, anxiety, OCD, and back pain, thanks to methadone I have been able to stop taking the 3-4 different medications that didnt work, and had terrible side effects. The problem is im paying over $300 a month at this clinic. thats not including my insurance (Humana) that covers NOTHING. the drug is actually cheap, 99% of the cost is the doctor, nurse, pharmacist, therapist (2 therapy sessions a month), and 2 drug panels a month, all things most of us dont want nor need.. in reality the drug should cost around $30 a month...the last thing i need in life is therapy, not to mention they are the WORST therapists around. I do not need any of that, all i need is the drug., i work, i pay taxes, i treat people right, i dont drink, smoke, or anything else, i feel we should be treated equally, and given a fair price. We need to band together and start a petition, things will not change unless we make them. im sick of working my ass off and having nothing just because the state wont mind its own buisness
Hi Roger- You don't say where you live, but I'm more than happy to help you find a clinic in Michigan. You can go online. Google methadone clinics Michigan, and then you will see lists pertaining to each state. Use the STATE site. They are current and of course call the clinic to verify all info is correct and current. In SE Michigan, I highly recommend Recovery Unlimited in Flint, Michigan. it is 65 miles 1 way for me, I go once a month, and worth it. Even though there is a closer clinic to me. R. U. is a private clinic. In my opinion, private clinic is the only way as they honor MMMP cards. Good luck to you and your wife, Roger.
RE: Nana I had pretty much the same outcome, and the new Dr. was actually just a PA, but also said my file would take to much time, and that he was gonna get me off the meds i had been on for years that had allowed me to live with some quality to my life.I was on methadone, and am petrified of the hoooor stories of the withdrawel from it. I am still taking it and it showed in my blood test. My dr. ask me where i was getting it, and i had already ask for his help if he would not continue it, that he help me wean off it. I told him i would not tell him where i was getting it, but that i now at 60 yrs old have been made to feel like a street addict when im trying to find it.Its not right to just stop meds, and its really not right to not supply u with help to at least avoid withdrawels. What ever happened to Dr.s oath to put the health and best interest of the patient 1st???
I need one in or near macomb Michigan too. I refuse to go to an abusive clinic again. Security broke my rib at BIOMED
Please I need a Doctor in northern mocomb county. I have chronic pain from broken back, plates in my left arm n no acronnem bone in shoulder from electricity shock. Please let me know of a private doctor not a clinic.

Re: Pam (# 44)
I need to find a new doctor. I have been on methadone for pain management for almost 10 years now. I’ve been in the same pain clinic for 5 years with no problems but they recently stopped taking Medicaid and don’t want the attention of the DEA for cash patients either. I had to pick up my last 30 day script last week, fillable in a few days. I take 60mg of methadone/day for CRPS, Sacroilitis, and arthritis. I am 35 years old, I was first diagnosed with CRPS at 7. I have had inj's. and rhizotomies. I also take oxycodone 15mg twice a day as needed for break-through pain, Neurontin 800mg 3x a day, Motrin 800mg 4x a day (I used to get Naproxen but insurance won’t cover it), Progesterone and Folic Acid for hormone imbalances, Celexa 40mg once a day, and Xanax .5mg 3 times a day as needed for depression and anxiety.
My psych meds are taken care of, but I have just over 30 days to find someone to take over my pain meds. Please, if you still now if anyone in the metro Detroit area I would really appreciate the information.
BTW prior to needed a new doctor I was seeing Michigan Neurology Associates.
Thanks so much!
