Doctors In Michigan That Prescribe Methadone (Page 38) (Top voted first)

I'm interested in finding a private doctor's office (not a clinic) that will prescribe methadone. I can't afford these clinics! Does anyone know of a doctor???

Thanks, Kamarx!...I will call them for sure if Dr. P is not what I need. I'm not sure where to look. I don't need an 'addiction specialist' and I'm not looking for methadone or even that 'oxy' stuff. I just want a Dr. who is willing to treat me with therapy and also give me proper meds to ease the pain of 3x weekly physical therapy!
Also, has anyone ever tried Ultracet? OMG! They tried me on that first because my Dr. said he preferred to go the 'non-narcotic' route...scary drug! I had a horrible headache and felt extremely anxious like I was going to jump out of my skin! After doing my own 'research', I was disgusted when I read all the scary 'side effects', especially seizures since it is a completely synthetic drug! Anyhow, I'm fine on the lowest dose of Norco and I take 5mg of Valium occasionally for muscle spasms...just in shock over how my family dr and this wacko orthopedic are weird over pain meds...I did not think that it was a very strong drug. It works and I'd prefer to not go stronger since I know my body is already 'used' to this dose. It doesn't totally kill the pain, but it makes it 'tolerable' and that's fine with me. Just want a caring Dr. who doesn't treat patients with actual problems like they are 'drug-seeking' just because they say they need pain meds. They make them for a reason obviously.
Also, if anyone reads this...Dr. Vargas in Midland (which is near me sort of) is NO longer taking new patients...I read a post before that he writes RX for meds liberally...I had a friend refer me to him and office said he doesn't take new patients unless they live in city of Midland, WTH? Weird. Thanks again for advice. Glad I found this site since my HMO insurance is no help!

Leesa, With DR. P up front would mean honest. He does have two locatons. Everyone should be reminded to not inform Dr. were refered fom this site. It would ned some things.

By reading 'up front' honest with Dr. P. I am looking for my husband actually, I already have a 'pain' doctor and get my methadones and oxycodones because I have all kinds of records verifying my real pain and injuries. But my husband doesnt have insurance and my doctor doesn't take any new cash patients so I need a doctor for him. He has been 'sharing' my methadone but also has real pain issues, just not as bad as mine. So if this Dr. P. takes cash patients, should he just say he is an addict to get some methadone? Also, he needs at least 4 10 mg a day, so what/ how much should he say his addiction was?

Dr. Meyer at the EDM treatment center in Saginaw will prescribe methadone. And lots of it!! I got 368 a month plus klonopin and adderall, 3 30 mg Addie's a day! He prescribes tons of whatever he puts you on! Addict or not, just depends on what your counselor recommends, try to get Sue as a counselor- she is a dingbat and recommends what you tell her u want!!

Dr. Townsend? I am prescribed Xanax and adderall and I just moved to the upper peninsula and there are no doctors in this area taking any new patients and the only MD that is turned me down today naturally, saying "he didn't have the license to prescribe narcotics" I need to find help before my last prescription runs out, do you know of any internal med doctors with there own private office who can help me around this neck of the woods? im in munising and I really don't want to fly all the way back down to Florida every 28 days just to get my scripts, that would be crazy, I would appreciate your input, any and all would be helpful, thanks a bunch!

I've been in methadone 7 and half pills a day for 9yrs. Recently my doctor moved from uofm to ucla. It's very hard to Find doctor to prescribe methadone. Any suggestions in ann arbor battle creek or metro detroit. Thanks.

Hi, my name is Mattie and I've been struggling with my opiate addiction for years. I tried suboxone and it did nothing for me. Lately ive been trying to findca doctor whom is discreet and can prescribe methadone pills in Lansing area. Please help. I definitely don't wanna hit rock bottom again

I am P450 and have intractable pain that can kill. Unfortunately, and I know a lot of former addicts frequent this post. The government is causing MASSIVE shortages on opioids we used to receive for long acting pain control--I can die from progression to Central Pain Syndrome.

Methadone was created under Hitler and one of his high paid scientists due to shortage of poppy back in the war days. They allowed the patent to lapse (it was purchased by drug companies in America right off) due to the high physical tolerance that evolves within 24 hours.

For a former opiate addict Methadone can be used daily depending on your habit. For pain patients we must take it every 4 hours; our government has the CDC and FDA putting out low morphine equivalent regulations causing our pain physicians not to write-millions are losing doctors and dying on the streets. As a high level health care professional I SAVE pain patients who are suddenly cut off by Methadone clinics. They will tell a pain patient you are not an addict well I tell that pain patient to say "I will be in another 24 hours if you do not help me." WE ARE DYING people until we get a new president and our Constitutional rights are returned America might as well be taken over by the terrorists. This is what D.C. looks like right now for us as a group ok?

Methadone has a very slow liver pass. It is only safe to increase it weekly. Unfortunately for high level addicts going in if your habit is high ($300 to $800 a day) 20 mg. Methadone may not fix it but you won't be as dope sick. For a pain patient drugs like Duragesic is equivalent to Methadone in DEATH DUE TO SUDDEN withdrawal. You cannot safely stop Methadone without a taper of months to years in some cases.

I wanted to post this to say hello to all here wish you luck as Michigan seems to have quite a few Methadone clinics and just give you a heads up on what is going down with pain patients. What that doctor did is very unethical and bad practice. But, I think docs reserve the right to stop treatment at any time but I might wrong. That is horrible IMO. Cruel even... sry

My husband's Dr. In Muskegon Mi just dropped him and he's on methadone. He needs to find a new Dr. That will prescribe it to him for chronic pain. Please let me know if u know of any that r taking new patients. Thank u.

Denise, well I have started cutting my patches in half. The next time I change it is will be cutting it in fourths. Already the pain is really bad. I'm trying to only do mild withdrawal. I have called around for another Dr but am having trouble finding one.
My pain meds have given me a life and have allowed me to do things and play with my very young adopted daughters (3 & 5) Right now, my husband is the one who bathes them and takes them out to play. I can barely drive and even riding in the passenger seat is tortuous.
An I know this is all just going to get worse. I am back to using my cane and often my walker, I'm almost certain that it won't be long and I will be trapped in my wheelchair chair again.

Need to find a methadone Dr as close to Port Huron or St Clair county as possible (but willing to do some traveling) for my pain management it's next to impossible please any help would be very appreciate

As far as using methadone for pain, its the best and i didn't build a tolerance, however the clinics tell us off the bat, they're using it for addiction and to not ever mention you use it for pain, which is what it is, a pain med and a very good one. The federal laws are so strict is why drs don't prescribe it.

I have been on Suboxone for the past 4 years with pretty good success, but that's the problem, I'm looking for more than 'pretty good'. I just want to feel comfortable after suffering a severe head injury due to a car versus tractor accident years ago. I started off with Norco 10 milligram which did not work well and moved up the ladder until I reached Suboxone. Part of the problem is my prescribing physician will only give me one a day. I think my body has gotten used to it. With great consideration, methadone may be the answer for a better life. After being on these medications for several years I'm not looking to feel high, just feel normal and comfortable. I'm hoping the methadone will help with my addiction problem as well as my discomfort. Can anyone suggest a doctor in or around Lincoln Park, Michigan? Thank you for reading.
