Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 69)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Tammy I have never noticed any difference between Mallinckrodt, KVK tech, Caroco, Qualitest, they all have an AB rating from the FDA which means they are EXACTLY the same as the name brand. Meaning they function exactly the way that they are supposed to.

I agree, as long as we have our pain under control & are getting our meds I could really care less if im getting my meds in 3doses a day or 5 doses a day. As long as im getting what I need to keep ny pain under control so I can continue to work is all im worried about. I wish everyone the best & hope u guys can get your pain & dosing under control the way I have. Good luck to everyone, im sure after a couple of months we will all be doing great again!!

@Tammy (& anyone else who could help)...was that "are they still practicing?" response to my post about Unified Health in Arvada? They are still practicing but I do not have ANY further knowledge about them and would really appreciate some. I'm very happy that everyone on here seems to be able to find relief and everything they need to live life as pain free as possible thru CPR. Unfortunately, CPR is not an option for me :(
So, any info would help. Been on my meds for 10 years, and need to find a medicade or just not too too $$$ pricey $$$ doc in the boulder/Denver metro/Longmont etc area. (But usually policy is if you have Medicade, you are not allowed to be self-pay.) I really can't afford much and a medicade doc would
be amazing! Like I said, I'm always on this thread, just haven't needed to post in awhile but all my info on my diseases and conditions are posted on here a few months ago. Please help a lil lady out :) I've been able to help some folks on this thread, I'm a kind, good, friendly, caring lady that is desperate since my doc of 6+ years decided to no longer practice pain mgmt. *SOS!!!* my friends!!! Info on Unified Health? Or Medicade doc in central CO area???
Muchlove and best to you all!

The only way u will be able to get them on the same day u see the doctor is if your fill date is the day u see the doctor. If thats the case they should let u fill them at your pharmacy. If its not your fill date then they will give them to the mail order service & they will deliver them to u on your fill date. Hope that answers your question. There are a few things that will determine if u get to fill them yourself or not. Hope this helps!!

Mac, Part of what you r saying is true, however, different companies use different fillers and the can work with or against your body! This is particarly found in Oxy! Hope it helps!

I have had the same experience. The only brands i have tried that worked for me are the Qualitest and the Caraco. My general practitioner, my PA at the pain management doctor, and the pharmacist at Target and Costco all told me that the fillers are different for different companies, and that they can affect side effects, absorption, and how well the pills work. Good luck to you!

CO Susie,

I use Target Pharmacy, and they specifically order Qualitest or Caraco for me. They have it ready on my fill date, and they have done this for over a year for me. Have you tried them?

Unified health is taking patients on medicade .I saw their ad , I live a block a way. However medicade has to reimburse anyone that can't be seen at pain management in their providers .As for the 3 pill a day thing call look up the Dea protocol on prescription drugs use long term .Medicade will only pay for 3 break thru meds a day period .

Wendy.. I was told Medicaid doesn't cover the long acting oxy 80s. In addition, when they changed the formula a few years back from the OC to the OP my stomach couldn't handle it. I am currently on 5 30mg oxy and 150 mcg Fentanyl Patches. My first month with the patch after years of Morphine E/R. 2 weeks in and the jury is still out on whether these patches are helping. I am very frustrated. Has anyone heard anything new? Also.. someone asked if they would get their meds on their visit Wed..not if it's day 28. You will have to wait a day or two til it is day 20. HAS ANYONE TALKED TO DR. MAY???

My appointment will be and has always been on day 29. But I haven't heard from anyone else who has talked to dr. May or cpr about what their plan is for this month for some patients. If you live in the area I am guessing that you will be getting your meds through the new pharmacy and if you are out of state and your appointment is on day 29 then they might have to let you fill at your pharmacy and next month go in a couple days early. At least that would be the best way to start this but that is just a guess. Anyone know anything else yet?

MAC686,
No the pills are not "all the same". True they are approved by the FDA or they couldn't be sold legally, but each manufacturer has a patent on their formula. The formula can be "similar" but not the "same". No other company can market "the same" pill when there is a patent or they are violating the law. The producers change the filler/buffer used, dye color, amount of the actual drug, so that they are in compliance with the law.

The FDA also allows a "fudge factor" in the effectiveness of each medication made. This "fudge factor" isn't only allowed for pain medications, it's also allowed in heart, diabetes, etc. meds. I have heard that this "fudge factor" can be up to 20% less effective and still be legal (I think 20% may be a little high) but five different pharmacies have explained that there is up to a legal 12% "fudge factor" that is common for pain medications.
Information is also available, showing that the filler/buffer used in some of the pain medications is very ineffective in transmitting the actual pain reliever to your central nervous system, resulting in it being ineffective for relieving pain.

Lucy
I started on Opana ER 20mg in May with oxycodone 10 mg for breakthrough pain. I believe Opana ER is also available in 30mg. Have you tried either of these? How are the patches working for you?

Lucy
I was taking oxycodone 30mg 5x daily because I didn't have insurance and the money for ER pain relief. A friend just explained that Fentanyl patches are a more powerful drug than the Opana ER that I just started on. I don't know what your pain is caused by, so I don't know if you have "good" and "bad" days. Is "changing up" your medication to perhaps increase the effectiveness as option for you? In my case "changing up" doesn't work so well, I have a difficult time adjusting to any changes AT ALL !! So change just sends my pain out of control.

I was told to come in early because they are mailing out our meds .My appt was the 3 last month and the 31 of this month so I have time to get them in the mail.Everyone will get there meds but will come in see your Doctor few days before and the pharmacy will mail them out .That's how I was told .

So the one's who have their appointments this month still at day 29 will have to go to their pharmacy? and then come early next time to get meds through mail

@Wendy, thank you for Unified info w/ Medicade...do you know anything about them?
And @rainbowflowers...do you not remember me from here? I was the one who told you Dr Ryan was at Kaiser when he left. I'm really happy you had a good experience with your new doc and hopefully found a new place for good!!!..but you aren't on oxy ER & IR right? Cause that's what I've been on for 10+ years. I'm not a seeker, we spoke in this thread for awhile few months before Dr Ryan left and Theresa took over. I'm always on here, just not a CPR patient and seems like that's what most posts are about...shruggg :)

Anyway, to everyone, my pharmacist told me Medicade wouldn't cover more than 4 oxy/day, not 3. Is she wrong? Does anyone know for sure if it's 3 or 4??? ...I'm gonna call her and ask again, I'm on 4 so I thought I was good but now if it's 3 like it says here I don't know... can u pay cash for extra? Would suck to be paying more cash again! Medicade is 1st insurance I've had in years! Too "diseased" and "pre-determined conditioned" for any insurance company to touch me!

As always, best to yall :) and thanks!
~K

Tammy 2, when I came last month they told me everyone is starting the mail pharmacy this month and schedule appointments few days earlier. What worries me is I take demerol shots and only one pharmacy in the state carries it .Now they won't fill the script because they think this place is a pill mill like Florida .The pharmacist warned me that Dea was gonna shut them down soon .They have had five docs in a short time .
