Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

I was just told by both my doctor, and the pharmacist at Walmart and King Soopers that the feds allow 3 days early if the doc writes a 30 day prescription. Insurance is the same. However, King Soopers....and all Kroger company pharmacies only allow 1 day. All this drama almost makes it worth flying to Mexico with your prescription and buying a 5 gallon bucket full!!! Freaking junkies ruin it for everyone!!

Hello,
my dear fellow CPP's (chronic pain patients)... regarding the post by Nurseynurse....
I personally found it very offensive, as I post here occasionally. Just a guess, but by her using the phrase "jails, institutions, or death" and her reference to NA, I would think he/she may just be an NA member who broke one their traditions. One tradition states "attraction, not promotion" as the way to encourage new members to attend meetings.
By her posting here regarding Narcotics Anonymous, that is blatantly promoting NA; furthermore, no one can "diagnosis" another as an addict.... that is a personal decision made by oneself. Posts like this just cast NA as a threatening place to visit, in my opinion.

I HAD MY DR APPOINTMENT TODAY AND THEY WERE GREAT! !! I SAW THE PA FOR MY FIRST VISIT. ...DID NOT HAVE MY RECORDS AND HE KEPT ME ON THE SAME MEDS THAT I HAVE BEEN ON FOR YEARS. HE WAS VERY UNDERSTANDING AND IS EVEN SENDING ME FOR A MORE RECENT MRI AND XRAYS. THE MONEY WAS WORTH IT AND THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WITH CPR AND SAID THAT THEY ARE READY TO START SERVING THE PATIENTS FROM CPR. THEY AGREE THAT THEY LEFT ALOT OF REALLY SICK PEOPLE IN A VERY SH***Y POSITION. I RECOMMEND DR SHAWN AND HER ASSISTANTS. I GAVE THEM A 15 OUT OF 10. WELL WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY.

I am the same way. I am actually not even able to work right now until I get my back healed because it's THAT bad. So I am getting on disability in order to get all my discs and what not healed over a couple years. But I still have to go to school, which I am an Honor's Student in College. So I know how it goes, I don't have kids but I know how it goes with not being able to focus on anything else when you're in a lot of pain. I am only 21 and rarely go out or go to concerts like I love to because I am constantly in so much pain!!! But I once again wish you the best and will let you know if something turns up

It's not letting me post it..... It says it has to be reviewed before it can be posted. Idk what the deal is. But if you don't mind me asking on here, have you had personal experience with this Dr? And also what exactly was prescribed and for what??

Hi Tammy,

Like others I just found out the Dr. I have will not continue to prescribe RX IR opiods. She's a really nice lady, but one of her patients was causing her lots of probelms and eventually was arressted. Like other Dr's she doesnt want to continue dealing with the headache, so I am back at square one finding a doctor that can help. Im currently taking 6 30mg IR per day. I think i could take less, but right now that's what I need to be able to go to work every day to deal with my lower back pain and also not drive my girlfriend crazy with my complaints. Do you know if your doctor is taking new patitents? Everybody I have been reffered to is a sub doctor and that's the last thing I want to put in my body. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could help.

Hey Mac. I actually spoke to them yesterday. I played varsity basketball in HS and College and I wore out the cartilage in my lowest vertebrae so that it it pinches my sciatic nerve and my legs and feet go numb. They seemed really understanding and had me ship over my records from my Sports Specialist. Once they receive them they said they will put me in for an appointment that same week, so I'm hoping for around Valentines day. I'll respond with how it goes after I go in. Thanks for all the info MAC! Here's hoping that this doctor is the one.

That's good to hear man. I'm passing along the favor to people who actually need the help. But at that place they do everything by the book; UAs 9 out of 10 months and they won't even see you without diagnostics. And they don't write anything before 30 days. I suggest you keep whatever they write you in a safe place because even with a police report they only give tramadol even if it's stolen; and I know that with the amount I take of OC and Methadone, tramadol wouldn't do a single thing for my pain. I know how it is when you can't find a doctor who understands that opiates are a very important part of treating chronic pain. So I know what it's like to not be able to get what you need because living with chronic pain is no way to live.

Not as far as I could tell. Which doesn't make sense at all. Idk I guess when I go in on the 22nd I'll be able to talk to Dr. May and see what the F*** is going on!!! Anyone on here who likes big government, this is what you get. The government interfering with PRIVATE affairs. Healthcare is private, they have ZERO business being involved. It's not about personal responsibility and accountability anymore, NOOOOO, it's about someone F**** up and you make an umbrella policy for everyone!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

Sorry you said abusers. But I didn't say I am allergic to oxy et I said I had bad side effects from them and there is a difference in the fillers and how its made which can cause some people to be allergic/and or have side effects that they wouldn't from oxy ir. I said I am allergic to morphine, and with the er oxy I first got severe dizziness then nausea and confused, it was scary I thought the same as u that it was the same drug but boy I was wrong and refuse to take that crap again. I then tried methadone which made me constantly throw up and ended up in the hospital(yet again) for lots of iv fluids and a nice migraine. Not everybody is the same there are people who you can't treat out of a textbook.

I understand the doctors have to cover their butts but if they are doing everything right and have patients that have tried other meds and have found a way for relief of most of their pain (meds, physical therapy, ect.) then there shouldn't be any issues and change unless it has started to not provide relief. People should not be judged or be called an abuser or being looked at as "its a red flag" because they cannot take certain meds at least they tried it.

WOW! I know its not an oxycodone clinic its a pain clinic which oxy ir is a pain med like it or not and I too am a chronic pain sufferer. If only u walked a mile in my shoes with having the reactions and side effects then you would understand and not ASSUME that just because somebody only takes 1 narcotic med for pain that they are a red flag or abuser in your eyes. I have stuck up for you on this forum and even gave you the name of this doctor to begin with, I have tried a lot of stuff and still try to do my physical therapy to the best of my ability along with my tens unit that really doesn't do much. I want to know are you a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider? Because I have told them my reactions to the ER oxy and all my other side effects and allergies and they understand even dr. May and his wife said it happens and the oxy er is different from oxy ir so I know they don't see me as a red flag or abuser. Yes I am mad right now cause I don't think its right for you to throw words out like your an expert on chronic pain when even most pain docs are not even experts they are still learning. It may be good for most patients to have an ER med and it works wonders for but there are some that really honestly can NOT take it my mother was the same she handled ir fine but could not take ER oxy at all and she had cancer but I guess really in your eyes she was just a red flag and just an abuser with no pain even though she was dying from cancer. So before you go on preaching about how chronic pain should or shouldn't be treated go to school and become a doctor.

Dr. May is saving his ass. If doctors don't listen to the DEA they get shut down and lose their license which they went to school for like 20 years to get. If you're ONLY on oxycodone and claim to be a chronic pain patient they won't prescribe it. The DEA is going around telling doctors that if patients have chronic pain they need to be on an Extended Release medication and a MAX of 3 Instant Release meds per day. That's why if you're ONLY on Oxy IR they're taking you off of it. If you asked to go to oxycontin they would let you I bet. And Purdue's patent is up as of April so the generic Oxycontin will be back. And as of now Oxymorphone ER (OPANA) is available too. there are other drugs. If only Oxy IR works for you, then idk what to tell you because all doctors are cracking down on it incredibly hard. They are the #1 abused drug in America. People are dying left and right. And when you're not willing to work with the Dr. in any way shape or form it usually doesn't work out well. I am on a higher dose of methadone and I still have 3 Oxy IR for breakthrough, as chronic pain is supposed to be treated with a long acting med and a small amount of breakthrough. I'm not calling anyone addicts or WHATEVER anyone wants to say in response to this, I'm stating the facts of what is happening in our state right now. It's getting almost as bad as Florida. SOOOO many more people are on heroin now because of everyone going into doctors to get oxys to just make money, then people get addicted, can't get them anymore and move to heroin. It's just the way it is with how many people sell oxys, abuse them, and die from them. REally if you have chronic pain it would be better managed with a higher ER dose and a couple IR doses throughout the day. It helps with tolerance, rebound pain, and other side effects too. You have to at least TRY to work with them a little bit.....

I started going to CPM because I needed a new pain doc & there is a long wait at the ones I have called. CPM requested all my previous doctor records, MRI scans & wouldn't see me without them. I went there because they fit me in there schedule. It seems like they are on the up & up, they would only give me an ER pain med & 2
breakthrough meds. Same as my previous doc that is very reputible dr. Just find it strange as does Tammy, that they would show u that kind of info? At first u said it was your friend that was shown this info then in the next post u said it was u that saw it? Not calling anyone a liar I just want to know what's going on with CPR because I've had 2 faild spinal fusions & can't function without my meds, especially my ER med. Any info would be awesome! We can talk privately if so. Thanks

CPR isn't being shut down. They are following ALL the regulations set forth by the DEA. That's why they started discharging people only willing to get oxycodone and no long acting meds, they give drug tests, they don't see you without imaging diagnostics, and I even talked to Dr May and he said the whole reason they are having to write higher XR meds and less breakthrough for chronic pain patients is because the DEA gave them regulations to follow and if they don't follow them they would get shut down. They are not being shut down. They are following the DEA's guidelines and won't just be shut down because some seekers came in. And I find it weird that your "friend" would be shown DEA lists and then you say you saw it. The DEA isn't going to let all the doctors know who they're shutting down, and the doctor sure isn't going to share federal information with a patient who has NO ties to medicine, the government, or any other entity that would have this info. Tammy I would call them and ask like I did. Amanda told me they aren't going anywhere. They were recently given these guidelines by the DEA and they are following them. I have an appt on the 18th. So we'll see if they're shut down. If they are I definitely will need a new doctor and I would really appreciate if Skinny would share that info through email. I have 6 separate back problems all documented.
