Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 210)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

LilDevil if you have fallen and been injured on the job as your post says you should be using their Workers Compensation Insurance. There will be no cost to you, however I don't know how their particular insurance works with various Doctors. Meaning they may have a Doctor they would like you to see first and then be referred from there to a specialist.

Jetmech I didn't know this about Kroger,I don't use them anyway, but I think they can get in trouble too if reported. After all it is a federal mandate that allows a script to be filled 3 days early. I can't see how their corporate rules would trump the feds if push came to shove.

LilDevil: After your appointment with Rocky Mountain Pain Solutions, could you please come back here and give us your impression of the doctor you see? I have been a chronic pain patient for many years, and have not experienced the stress and anxiety as I am now due to CPR's use of this pharmacy and their arbitrary rules. I feel like a prisoner, because if I do spend the money to interview new doctors to look for a better fit, I will be fired if CPR finds out, and then my life will be nothing but pain and suffering.
I basically have to find a doctor who will honor my pain medication needs prior to leaving CPR so that I do not have a gap in treatment. I also have serious issues when I am cut off my medication, due to high blood pressure. It skyrockets around the 2-4 days... I have been hospitalized for it in the past. I really do not want to risk a stroke, although it seems that it will be hard to make sure that I am home every 31st day of the month in order to have my medications delivered. And, what happens if the 31st day is a Saturday? Does that mean I will go through 3 days of withdrawal, waiting until sometime the following Monday to receive my medications, as the pharmacy is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. I think that CPR would like the pain medication patients to transfer to the "other side" and receive suboxone treatment, otherwise why are we being treated so poorly? My depression is very bad with all these complications, and I am confused as to what makes the most sense for my continuing treatment. I am grateful this thread exists so that I can express my thoughts and feelings to others who understand exactly what I am going through.

They can get in trouble if they fill 4 or 5 days early....but the federal mandates are a minimum. It is completely legal to set policy at a tighter level than federal. Federal law allows for any size magazine for my rifles......different states say I can't buy magazines with more than 10 or 15 rounds......some ban rifles with detachable magazines all together.....same deal.

I saw Dr Rentz, he was not able to help with Oxycodones and what he did prescribe is not helpful, Great Doctor and we have a great physical therapy and OTC regiment in place so I am excited for that but still what am I to do about the pain to do the physical therapy?

Hi, I didn't have any success with colorado pain management in Lakewood, waited 4 hrs for appointment, dr spent whole time going over my surgeries, zero questions about pain, what works, what I have tried, simply said, we will wean you off opiates, come back in a month, my neurologist left the state suddenly and now I can't find a good pain doc, primary care doesn't want to prescribe, I have taken 12 mg of diluadid for the last 8 years, it works, now I am up the proverbial creek, I can't sleep, can't work, exercise due to the pain, i have had a fractured hip, tibia, cancer and MS, if I am not in pain, I can function, exercise but now I have gained 40 lbs, can't walk, sleep all of which makes me hurt worse, this is crazy, any suggestions for a doc, thanks much to all

JaneDoe and Anonymous: Thank you for sharing your experiences around seeking medication management for chronic pain issues. You have saved me time and money regarding meeting with the doctors you wrote about. There are less and less options for those of us who are having pain managed for years, successfully, with medications.
I am guessing that eventually we will be using suboxone for pain management, as the options for opioid pain medication management seem to be disappearing faster and faster. CPR is prescribing, but with the arbitrary rule changes occurring monthly, the lack of adequate care and customer service with the pharmacy they insist we use, and the overall lack of communication makes me question the worth of it all.

Oh, and with CPR, I discovered after setting up my delivery with the pharmacy, that my meds now will be filled every 31 days. That means that the pill I usually take at 5am, when I wake up in pain, will not be available on day 31...I will be out of meds on day 30. The window for delivery is essentially all day, so I spend the day waiting for my meds to turn up. Once, I got a courtesy call from the delivery driver 20 minutes before he arrived with my meds. The anxiety of waiting is very disturbing.

Ha, what docs have you been seeing up here in the mtns? I live up here and despite being on the same dosage of pain meds for 8 years, never increased, these docs have treated me so they know my injuries, they will not write scripts for pain meds unless you just broke a bone and have had surgery!

Glad I found you guys, sorry for the alias but...
After reading all the posts, I have a few comments
1) injections can work if it is a good doc,pa, I have found the pa's shots are less painful than docs but it only works for so long and some folks say you shouldn't have them more times than 3 a lifetime, 3 a year etc, Steadman is great for that, we did have 2 good pain neuros up here but both have left, one overnight, now we are being referred to dr richard steig? Any thoughts??
I am scheduled to see a steadman pain doc here in a few weeks, will update.
My PCP said, you will just have to get used to being in pain, she suggested CBD, but we can lose a job for that so..., yes I don't mind putting up with some pain but do I have to stay awake in pain all night long, until I finally fall asleep, miss work and life to start it all over again, she put me on a small antidepressant that is contraindicated for heart patients, needless to say, she must have forgotten my pacemaker, what a pain..
so glad I found you all,

JohnS:
That's a really good point, now my question is:
How to find a Suboxone Dr?

CPR has one half of the office for pain medication management, and the other half is for suboxone (addiction) treatment. For anyone with Medicaid, CPR does accept Medicaid for addiction treatment and their prescribing of suboxone; however, as everyone knows, they do not accept Medicaid on the pain medication management side. That is due to the fact that Medicaid is much more generous in their reimbursement for addiction treatment than for pain management in the state of Colorado.

WANT A TERRIFIC DR? Dr. Hong in Denver, Colorado! He does pain management, will write for the stronger opiods...if necessary and appropriate! PLUS, he does NOT check for thc in your ua AND is a medical Marijuana dr! You can do both with him!

You don't need a Colorado license either, except for the medical Marijuana card. But, it's legal and he doesn't check for it, so, unless you need it for a job or something...just go to the local dispensary and buy it. He does not take insurance, $290 first visit and $150 each visit after that. Worth the drive if you don't live there. Just say you do...

I would be happy to give the cash to your dr on your behalf for your appointment. Just last me know where to send it, since you do not know me and I don't know you, I would just give them cash in an envelope and you could ask for the envelope. If you go to CPR, it would even be easier, they are awesome there. Just let me know, we have been in here for years and I don't like seeing you in pain.
As for your survey,
Yes, told no sooner than day 30
Had issues getting medication on time, the wrong medication delivered early and another late.
Charging the wrong CC
not letting meknow when it is coming so i can be here to sign for it.
Lots of issues, but I think they are getting them worked out. Try to schedule your appointment with the Dr office a week before you are due to get your medication. Then 2 days before, call and confirm everything with Accordant, such as time and day it is going to be sent out. This will help you feel more in control or at least it does for me.

I call BULLS##T!
First of all, 30 mg Oxycodone combined with Valium can cause respiratory arrest, add in the other things you say he is taking and he is a walking dead man!
You are new here and I do not trust you!

Janeygirl: Regarding your study: I was told my meds would be filled every 30-31 days; however, my scripts this month were written for 31 days each;
I do not have Medicaid, so cannot answer your other Medicaid related questions;
In the past, I was offered self-pay by other pharmacies, however, my current medications are covered by insurance at the delivery pharmacy, so I did not have a need to be offered self-pay.
I have private insurance at the current time, which of course does not help b/c the doctor does not take insurance for the office visits.
Thank you for taking the time to compile the stats for your study.

Mighty: The website that you provided in your recent post is amazing in the amount of detailed information it provides. You are right, by spending time researching doctors we can find out a lot about the prescribing patterns, types of patients they see, etc., etc.
Many thanks!
