I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Lucy can you go on 80 mg oxy long lasting , I was cut from 120 mg to 40 oxy twice a day lasting 12 hr each works ok .

Hi Mac...Yes..I get 5 30s/day. I was at 6 30s/day before they dropped me this month because of the new policy (mandated by Charles, who owns Assurion). My understanding is that we HAVE to go through Assurion unless he doesn't have the med requested (although he claims he has a ton of every pain med) or unless your oxycodone dose exceeds 90 mg /day. They told me and my b/f that they would have every patient down to 90 mg per day within 6 moths. He's extremely arrogant...told my b/f who is on 90 mg a day now that he would have no trouble but laughed at what I would go through when they cut mine from 6/day to 3/day. And again, refills are 30 days no sooner.

I think someone should call cpr and find out the facts of this and if we can go to our regular pharmacy for the next few months cause i know some people travel from different states to cpr and if day 30 they are traveling and can't sign for their meds at home they would be without unless they can fill the same day before they have to leave. I see this blowing up in their face I would love to talk to dr. May and see how he plans on dealing with out of state patients and their meds.

Perfectly , medicade will only pay for 3 oxy a day period .

So we're required to use Assurion? Even if we don't want to? And why all of a sudden should we have to go only there

Let me try to explain better.. there is a man named Charles who owns Assurion Pharmacy who will provide all our PAIN meds. Meds from other docs will still be filled at your local pharmacy. If you are on more than 90mg of oxycodone per day (regardless of how its broken down) Assurion will not fill it and you will have to go to your local pharm for those. The goal, however, is to have all patients down to no more than 90 mg of oxycodone per day within 6 months. Once you've reached the 90 or below level, Assurion will take over your oxys. So this month, they let me fill my oxys (150) at my pharmacy and Assurion filled my patches. It's not really a mail-order system per se...they will deliver it to your home or office at a predetermined time on Day 30, If Day 30 falls on the weekend, you will get them that Friday but they will have to last you 30 days plus for the next refill. Also, you can go pick up your meds on Day 30 at their facility in DTC if you wish. LET ME KNOW IF THIS MAKES SENSE:) Thx, Lucy

So I am confused you have to talk to the pharmacy that mails our meds? Or the doctor is saying this? Another thing is so this month we get our normal meds at our normal pharmacy but have six months to cut down to 3 and use their mail order thing? Is it just the higher mg oxycodone they are trying to cut or all even lower doses like 5's and 10's?

Tammy, I completely agree. I don't know how Dr. May is "in a lot of trouble". I got the feeling this guy is trying to get docs to exclusively use him cuz that's how he makes a profit (he told us this) and this he didn't say but I believe, he is using the fear of the DEA on docs so they come on board. He claims the state of CO is trying to totally eliminate the 30s cuz of their high value and that this is a way in which "the patients will be better off using him". f/When you meet this guy, you will understand what I am saying. Seems real nice and then goes off on his "sales" pitch. I agree...we all need to speak up and soon. They will lose a lot of patients. I have already started looking (again..damnit) and if I am successful I will be sure to pass it along. Also, keep me updated if you will Tammy. Thank you.

Im nt havin trouble gettin my meds but kaiser is tryin 2 change it from 120 all tha way dwn 2 at least 100 a month or 10 percent each refill I cant take morphine fentaly or methadone puts me in tha hosptial cuz of allergic reaction so wat can I do??? also only tha doctors at kaiser wil be able 2 do refills no Pa anymore and kasier is tryin 2 cutt off all ties wit medicaid I get told we will see u 4 now but in the near future I wil have 2 go else where so I have started lookin I just got this feelin that they just gonna cut medicaid wit a click of fingers and leave alot of us hangin besides CPR cuz they cash is there a pain managment place that takes medicaid

How is dr. May in trouble? I don't see how he could be he hasn't done anything wrong. This pharmacist sounds like he is just trying to get these pain management clinics to go through him then try to shut them down. We all need to stick together and speak up if this is not going good besides if they wait till day 30 and some end up wwithout meds because of delivery ect.. that is not good. I thought it was suppose to be a good thing but seems more like this pharmacy is a shady one.

Question: I started the fentanyl patches (150 mcg) a week ago (after yrs on Morphine E/R). How long does it take to really work. I have unbearable sciatica (this is new pain) on top of my chronic migraines and so far very little relief. And as usual..my timing is horrible..scheduled for a bunch of interviews this week. Anyone have any good news to help my day:) Thx all..this forum has really helped me not feel so alone and not so insane!!

Tammy... Will u keep me posted cuz I thought I finally found a place I could stick with. Charles...the egomaniac who owns the new pharmacy and admitted he's doing it so he can sell it off in 2 yrs for 2.5 million.. His words exactly... Also said "just between us" Dr. May is in big trouble. Why would he tell me and my b/f some big secret after 5 minutes of knowing us? Ive never seen May...do u think he will help? Im sorta freaking out. Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thx Tammy

I don't think it is dr. May who is doing this, it is Leonard he believes alot of crap that really is not true or right. I think I will see what they say at my appointment and if anything changes I will have them make me a appointment to see dr. May because he will clear crap up real fast.

Tammy...I totally agree. I thought it was odd that Dr. Glazer who JUST upped me from 4 to 6 last month mentioned I was on too much and dropped me to 5. The guy who owns the pharmacy has the docs convinced he "works with" the DEA so they are "safer" and its his rule they're following!! Also as of Aug 1 Medicaid will only cover 4 30s per day so I paid cash of 70$! I am not a happy camper. If u don't like the new system Plz speak up. I know 2 others who don't want to go back there. Blonde , going off oxy can kill u .If docs won't help start lowering your dose yourself .Fool your re sector's in your brain .Ask for a divan for the edge .I went from 120mg, to 20 a dose .Try mmj that helps a lot .

@Joeyciz i would really like to.talk to u i fully agree with everything u said I've been taking oxy ir for 2yrs now definitely need to get off of them the fact i am dependent.on these makes me very depressed at times all.a.doc.wantsto do is give me methadone or suboxone to try and come off but i refuse to take those and then b relying on something else. I want to stop completely.and.learn other ways to.deal with pain but im deathly afraid of withdrawls as i already have high blood pressure and anxiety....please help me let me know how u did it wat to expect etc....plz
