Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 176)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

I am new to grand junction and am not sure of when you guys talk about CPR what that is? ? I hand had 8 abdominal surgeries and coming up next Monday I will be having a nerve block because my primary care doctor refuses to prescribe me pain medications. I don't go out and drive, I am pursuing a medical coding career here at home and if I need to go somewhere my husband drives me. My doctor has prescribed me on gabapentin, Cymbalta. Savella, etc. I have a lot of anxiety due to the death of my father, this doesn't help my pain especially when I'm having a bad day and have to stay in bed. I'm lucky to eat when my abdomen hurts. I'm nauseated and don't know where to turn. I found your sight and hoping someone can give me a doctors name that is willing to porcine pain meds without treating me like I am druggie. I'm tired of pain, I told my husband last night I'm ready to take a bottle of tylenol or take his pistol to my stomach and maybe just maybe they would listen to me, my luck I would be put into an institution. Help. .....lost my patience. ;'(

My old man says the same thing we have been finding out some interesting things such as this new way to treat patients has been in the works for the last 20 years. There will be no more hospitalizations, hospitals are for keeping you alive until you get to see your doctor. Hospitalists are the new way of doctoring and they do not know what they are doing. And FDA, DEA, CIA, FBI and any other acronym groups are not to be trusted.

Hi Katy Beth I too am seeking in Texas and a rare case (P450 DNA ultra rapid metabolizer) the problem is the FDA reduction--they are to limit all of us chronic pain clients to 120 mg. morphine equivalent.

I was seen for 10 years in Houston by Dr. J. Hochman (died in 2010) and then because my pain which is now diagnosed the worst level Central Pain Syndrome had to see the top gun in California for five years and he came out of retirement due to several specialists dying, and hence pain patients taking their lives.

I'm a professional nurse and published researcher injured in the 90''s. Right now it is highly important you do not call for physicians and ask for what you were on before; they are all cautious. I happen to know no one in the U.S. would prescribe my normal medications at the level I was on them. That leaves me in a death position for if I had not put aside medication I had to go back to court (WC with medical award for life from another state), and issues now with SSA.

Did you lose your physician or you just have a need for an empathetic physician. Are you willing to travel say to Houston?

Smiles CPR is cardio pulmonary resuscitation you know when your heart stops or you cannot breathe.

We (I'm a professional nurse) do it for those emergency times.

Sorry I guess ya'll have a pain group in Colorado called CPR.

You seem fairly lucky; people in Louisiana on Medicaid cannot get in with actual pain specialists and in most states physicians who are NOT certified as specialists cannot prescribe.

In Texas Medicaid does not provide dental for indigent clients either leading to massive medical issues say someone does infect and end up with cardiac infection (Janey you mentioned broken teeth and infection and a new pacemaker) dental infections can travel to the brain or heart literally putting you at a death risk.

Also in Texas to prescribe for chronic pain you must certify as a pain clinic. Colorado seems to be more lax at this point BUT all physicians in America are being restricted by the 120 mg. morphine equivalent.

Hope ya'll have a great day.

Just Me, I am a very rare case who has progressed to Central Pain Syndrome (can die from pain now) but have had these surgeries and will warn you cervical fusions are left ONLY to the best. Any surgeon who is not capable will not go in anterior (front) and try to sell you back entry. I personally would NOT repeat not allow him or her to do mine.

I too (had the C5 and C6 and huge ostephyte had to be destructed first) have 4 screw, bone from the ostephyte which was fresh just dysfunctional and wire in 2002 with the best of the best. Further I say this after my best neurosurgeon in the world referred for now his hands shake and cannot operate. I will tell you though this guy is a professor, top of the line and I have referred several in to him (am a professional nurse and published researcher). He is at Baylor Methodist in Houston, TX (and trust me when this type of fixation is necessary it's worth it to travel a bit I was living in Louisiana at the time and also Midland, TX almost in New Mexico). If you are truly interested I would if I review your information send a fax over to have you seen.

Now the down side the genius type surgeons NEVER prescribe. When I go in house I will have the surgical scheduler get a pain specialist for my in house stay to treat the pain. It is true when you have this type surgery (in my case it corrected neurologic deficits not pain I'm beyond fixing pain) you should be great so to speak upon awakening BUT you will need medication for sure. That is my other suggestion.

I won't publish his name here but if you really want the best (he takes Medicare if you are disabled) as he is a professor world wide as well but he truly is the only cutter I'd allow to touch my neck or lumbar my injury was in the 90's and we still have not done my full BAK cage lumbar fusion my DDD is so severe anyhow I'm kind of fused so unless I go cauda equina will wait.

I wish you the best BUT girl I know what you have it's part of what I live with :)

P450,

Yes! In some aspects we are lucky. However, there r MAJOR holes in what u appear to think medicaid covers here. Pain management clinics r closely regulated and within the past 2 years approximately 75% of providers who treated pain management no longer will. The clinics that Medicaid covers either no longer take medicaid or r at max, so many of us r self pay, which if u r on medicaid, causes a real financial hardship. General oral care and dentures r covered on medicaid, this is a change within the last year that we fought hard for.I have spent 2 years getting permission from medicaid to have my oral care covered, which was caused by a medical error. I am now toothless, still infected and trying desperately to now find care as I just found out due to the infections dentures, which was my plan, r no longer an option. So "lucky" when this was done to me and I now have to deal with, I think not.

As far as my cardiac issues. I was diagnosed over 5 years ago with Prolonged QT syndrome. The number one killer of folks over 40 that die without reason. It's basically the SIDS of the adult world. All my medical treatment for this syndrome is expetimemtal, basically I'm playing a lab rat so others may live. Less than 2% make it through a cardiac arrest due to this syndrome. My situation was "diagnosed " by an excellent paramedic, who explained the situation to an ER nurse. She threw my ekg in the trash. A doc was never notified until 2 months later when I arrested in a cat scan and was "dead" for 23 minutes which on top of my physical issues, left me aphasia and had to learn to speak agqin.. Of course medicaid covers this treatment but I've made a choice to b studied to help others.

Unfortunately, during this arrest, my teeth and jaw bones were broken. My broken teeth aren't from neglect. To share with u my life prior, I was an RN, ran and ICU, opened both a Step-down ICU established a Pain Management a program one of the first in denver, now over 20 years ago and redid the railroads workman's comp program. I then "retired " ran a successful floral shop after a chiropractor herniated my healthy back, leaving me unable to walk or take care of my 1 and 3 year old children. It took three surgeries and 5 years just to b able to walk again. I was fortunate for a time until my ex decided he wanted after 20 years of marriage to get a new model. I bought my floral shop myself and he, out of anger, closed not only my business but only way I could work as the floral shop allowed me to work as I could considering my extreme limitations. I was left with no options to work. I have fought back at every adversity that has been thrown at me and will continue to do so, including fighting for everyone on this site that has become dear to me. No, I haven't been as active as I usually have been but when the airplane goes down, u grab for the oxygen first so u can help other's.

So although each state has their own set of rules, I have spent hour after hour calling, writing and telling every state Representative, Congressmen and even the President sharing our situations and needs. I feel if u r going to complain and not do anything about it then u r just complaining and don't really want some type of functional life. I don't take my meds and sit on the couch. I live. In short, don't judge others and what they may have maybe better than u until u have walked in their shoes. It's been since 1993 I've been fighting for all of us. U want help? These folks will tell u I will work my butt off for u, u want to do something? Start your own thread in your area but don't make assumptions you don't have the education to make such judgement please. U take great offense when someone chooses to make uneducated judgements about folks. I know nothing of what Texas covers and doesn't and I sure wouldn't make judgements about it unless I had the facts.

Janey you have a right to restoration have your PM document this decreased salivation causes complete "dental erosion" make sure he documents it in this manner stressing the priority need for opioid therapy to keep you alive.

Insurance will need to pay for this. No matter what you do it continues.

I'm referring more and more of my original referrals out due to this and they may fight but get coverage. Nice to hear from you wish you the best.

Janey I am a professional nurse and published researcher.

During the years since my injury I have referred over 10,000 SUICIDAL pain ciients to save their lives.

You are welcome to check my credentials I make no assumptions anyone on opioids will suffer this. Further I can die from pain I have progressed to Central Pain Syndrome I suggest your inferences will be so noted.

Editor's note: We do not verify the credentials of our users and nothing stated in our forums is intended to be taken as medical advice.

Janey I am also a regulatory expert but you have already evolved a nasty inference and I'm sorry your pain has done that to you I post wherever I see a person in need I choose to do so I am in the middle of seeking a new referral due to California regulations allowing 30 of us from out of state to certain death.

Unfortunately I don't expect mind readers on this that is why they keep your anonymity unless you choose otherwise. You are lucky to qualify for Medicaid I wish I could it pays quite well no matter what state you live in for medical.

Janey... I am so sorry that you are going through all of this right now. When I read your first post after this horrible treatment, my heart broke for you because you NEVER complain. You are always so helpful and cheerful.

I wish there was something I could do to help YOU. I will be praying and sending you lots of love. Take care of yourself. Don't let anyone antagonize you. :)

Janey, I'm so sorry to hear about all the troubles you've had with CPR since that Dr left and you've had to deal with the new doc. This new doc is the only one I've had as I just started there a couple months ago. You're dead on about a few things. My experience on my first visit no exam was done, no eye contact was made and both my prescriptions were wrong. One my pharmacy could fix over the phone but the other I has to drive it back over and get a new copy. Fortunately I pulled right as they were walking out and the front desk gal was kind enough to go back and get it for me. But dam, my impression is that it's all about making the money and very little to do with the patients. Subsequent visits also had prescription snafoo too.

I have a referral that might be just what you need. He's very compassionate, understanding and would never leave you hanging like that. He's a very good doc and my husband been seeing him for nearly 5yrs. Let's request info for private conversation so I can elaborate. I've been away for awhile since school's started full time for all of us including me. And starting reading the posts thinking who the heck is this?

Glad to hear Rainbow's back! ;-) girl you had me worried next time drop a line saying ok dont worry. I really do like my GP but he doesn't do PM. I discuss who I am seeing so he's aware of the situation and my feelings about it. I'd love to have an all in one. Someone had some suggestion for me awhile back. I can't recall who now but it'll come to me hopefully.

RAINBOW!!! YEAH GUYS!!!! Thank u all for your support, u know I'm not one to go off and I'm not thrilled to b on Medicaid, I WANT to b back working, I HAVE this plus what I didn't share because it wasn't u guys is that my sister in law passed quite in expectantly after stem cell transplantation. It has truly been the hardest time, next to my arrest. I will try getting u guys on private email but if u haven't heard from me, request me, as I seem to b doing something wrong. I'm off to the funeral but now with a smile on my face because u guys r here! Love u all!
