Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 148)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Happy Birthday Rainbow, try to get a little rest today.

Susan I'm sorry your rash has spread. Have you been in contact with your Dr. and does he/she know how far it's spread?
I've not posted much as it's been a crappy start to 2015. My hubby ended up in the ER, I got in to an auto accident, my dog finally succumbed to cancer and we had to put him down, and both of my kiddos had the flu and now I'm fighting it. I've been reading everything, just not posting

I have a neurologist that I had been going to for 8 years in Denver. He prescribes 120 oxycodone 15 mg, 120 Adderall 20 mg. & 90 Xanax 1 mg. each month. I have MRI, Xrays and chronic pain after multiple car accidents. If you want his info email me {edited for privacy}. I recently moved to Orlando, does anyone know a legitimate pain dr that prescribes here? I don't want to shop around so I'm trying to find one that I know will prescribe. Apparently its really difficult to find a legitimate pain clinic.

That's the doctor I need to see. I get added all 20mg a month twice a day from my current doctor and I was in a car accident and the ER doctor gave me pain killers for a week but now 6 weeks later the pain continues and I'll have to be back to work and he refuses to prescribe me Percocet. Who is the doctor you saw ? My primary care seems to be judging me and I have had Percocet in the past with my dislocated elbow and wisdom teeth removal, I only take them when I'm in pain. He refuses. I'm not a drug addict it's just temporary until I heal completely.

Can I get the # for that neuro in Denver? Had spinal fusion 3 months ago & the surgeon won't prescribe any more meds. Sez I have to go to my PCP, who doesn't do ANY pain meds, EVER. Unfortunately, there is practically nobody through out the state of Colorado that will prescribe pain meds, especially that accept Medicare, and yet you can get marijuana just about anywhere. Will be out of meds by this Tues & no idea what to do. Thank you, btw.

It is very hard in FL right now I just transitioned to Tampa if you are willing to drive to Tampa this pain dr.doesn't prescribe zanax, I think you need a psychiatrist for the adderall too, but with current mri doc will write your oxy, but the laws here are funny, because of the law he cut back my meds that I used to get in Co, but with a clean u/a and mri you can go from there

Mimi since u r already on maintenance it should be easy to transition, you could probably even set everything up before you move, they also do not take u off your benzodiazepines s . Denver or auroras mental health will write your benzodiazepines s if you have records and proof of being rx d. FL used to be the place to be for a pain patient not anymore there are pain dr.s in Co, and if you have a red card which is for medical not recreational than you ll be ok

Hey guys it's chaos, I've posted a few times but learned helluva lot from Mac And Tammy many others helped as well. I was going Unified Health in Arvada for pain, rumor was they were haulting and opiates to new patients about 4 months ago., but I'm in FL now the transition was hell I had 2 bouts of withdrawal and anxiety that medication didn't help, plus here in FL they cut my Dr meds from every 8 to every 12 hours but would not increase the milligrams, also no dr. Will prescribe soma, especially if u r on any benzodiazepines s, they u/a and the terrible marijuana they have here is illegal and terrible. I had my red card in Aurora. So I've had my live moved ...far.. I get here and my legit Medicare just wouldn't bill..the Dr. wouldn't accept my Co Mri, because ppl were using FL and printing out MRI in the car o the way to pm....You must have FL I'd to pick up a controlled substance here after you look for 2 days for a pharmacy....I see ppl leave the. Pm doc and come back bcuz they can't find a pharmacy to fill...it's crazy but I've been fortunate 5 months in a row but I'm in New Tampa it's a little community or suburb and that's y I get my meds. Wal Mart says yes we have these but you may have to leave them up to 72 hours
Claim to call Dr and etc. I've heard horror stories of these pharmacies keeping ppl s scrpts . I was told by a pharmacist that to not get a scrip taken to always present your I.d. and insurance card with the prescriptions. Yes I'm glad they cleaned FL up but now the pharmacist s are scared to death to give you meds. It's because they can only dispense x amount a day. The rules are too strict now the pharmacist should nt be able to decide what to and not dispense what the Dr. Wrote and the pm dr knows we all have hard time finding a pharmacy but the pm used to dispense in house years ago so I'm thinking it's a law here the Dr. ycan't recommend nor have a relationship with pharmacies be cuz someone f___ed that up too. So to get the scripts I get which have been greatly decreased written, actually visit paid for my medicare,by medicare I get them written and I am very fortunate to not had any complications with the pharmacy I go.to, but I was picking up meds for my God sis at that pharmacy and I transferred all my creator and other meds before they filled my pain meds. Anyway sorry for being so long, just wanted to say hi and let ya know what's going on in FL.

I need to thank Mac again I know you had a bump in the road I hope things have smoothes out....and my best wishes to all of you...let's help one another ....we are not alone ..it's a battle to go through what we do.on top of daily life..

Sadly, I haven't heard from Teep directly, and I haven't seen any posts from Teep either.
I hope we didn't lose him.

I feel your pain as I am 56 and have serious issues with my spine which are genetic. Finding the right physician is a difficult process. I would like to give you my advise to whom you need to steer clear of.
The reason why I am is because of bedside manners, deceptive billing practices and being forced to have to come in monthly just to have your scripts filled. If you have never violated a drug contract then you need to find a physician who will write you 3 months of scripts ahead of time. They cannot be filled until your last script has run out. There is no reason or law to make a patient come in monthly. If you like me are on disability and on a very fixed income this can become very costly. Colorado Pain Management and Denver Pain Management are two which you need to check off your list. Not only are there billing practices deceptive all physicians in both of these offices are horrible. Dr,Paul Leo is the rudest physician I have ever met at Colorado Pain Management. I suggest you find a good woman MD. Start first by looking locally. Call and ask them your questions. Once you have found someone see that you have all your medical records copied and get them to her office at least 1 to 2 weeks prior to your 1st appointment. Do look over them closely for any errors. At 56, I have found I much rather have a woman treating me. I do not know where you are located or I would give you the name of my physician. Good Luck and Good Health

I used to see Dr. W, who has retired. His last place of business was at Colorado Rehab over off Denver West Pkwy. He was my doc prior to going there.

1. CPRs billing is a nightmare ran by some lady named Beth in Longmont I believe. If you go there, be on top of your insurance and amounts.

2.As I've had 4 doctors retire or quit practicing on me in 6 years I've had my fair share of what's Standard Operating Procedure (sop) and what's not... The vast majority of Dr's will require monthly visits for class 2 drugs, unless it's a mental health drug. Making newer patients come in monthly is wise and keeps everyone out of trouble. If we want doctors to put their hard work and livelihood, not to mention their calling, on the line for us, we have to be flexible. My Suboxone Dr requires new people to see him every week for the first 4-6 weeks, plus counseling, U/A every visit and maybe more. The only reason I didn't have to is because I'm on it for pain management and have no history of abuse. A wise decision on his part imo. I did have to go the first time, then 10 days later and now monthly. I still have to take U/A's every time and he doesn't step foot in the room until the results are checked and recorded by the nurse. I also had to cut my dose 18mg a day (that's huge for sub). I'll do what I have to and I got through. They don't want us in withdrawal anymore than we want to be in it, but a bushel of bad apples had sullied the system nation wide. A few days early on your meds can spell trouble.

Let's consider what is poor job performance vs SOP that is in place for good reason.

Rainbow did you have a good birthday? I wish we all were closer to visit more often.

Cindy I'm so sorry to hear about the past 2 months. March will be better or I'll give it a what's for lol.

Anyway feel better people. I'm around if you need me! Xoxo

Snowbird,

You are absolutely correct. My old Dr. ended up as Director for Exempla and moved to interventional treatment only. Since I'm in the chronic pain category he could no longer treat me. This would never had been the case when he had his own practice. He was by far the best Dr. ain mgmt. or otherwise I've ever had. As you said, I was given scripts 2-3 months out after the first year under his care. As of last quarter of 2014 I was in for a rude awakening. My new Dr. started off with monthly visits of $175, no physical exam, no history and no attempy to learn anything about me personally to determune what type of work I do and level of activity. He immediately zero'd in on how high my medications levels were. After month 3, I finally received apprival frim Medicaid for an MRI. Perhaps part of the problem may have been my PM doc does not accept Medicaid. Afterwhich, there was a bit more understanding but from his POV we are maintaining the course of reducing my medications (what has worked very well for the past several years) and recommends inj's. Thats all-inj's. No PT, no dry needle (similar to accupuncture) no nothing. Just another $600 in inj's. My electric bill for 2 months or this which may or may not be helpful. They say there are PM Drs that accept Medicaid. I have to find one on the list I was sent that are accepting new patients. I've had to reduce my work schedule because I simply cant function the full time and then some I was able to maintain. Sleep alludes me now b/c I'm up n down every couple hours from the nerve pain in my legs and back. I feel like I'm back to where I was before I had my great Dr. that cared so much for his patients and took the time to get to know them. My new Dr. doesn't even make eye contact. There is no dr/patient partnership here. There is only what he says and thats the way it is. I called another Dr. and filled out the paperwork. I listed myself as self pay knowing they too did not accept Medicaid. After an appt was made they called back and cancelled b/c I had Medicaid and said that was illegal for a dr. To accept a patient on Medicaid. That was news to me. At my next appt. with my dr. He asked about ny conacting anither Dr. I said yes, based on your recommendation to get a 2nd opinion. The appt before he was rude and rather flipant. So I was following your recommendation. He then tells me that dr. had agreed with him on my medications. Wow, really? What is hippa for in all this? How can a dr. that is not my dr. view my MRI? It seems patient rights and confidentiality do not apply like they used to or maybe its just the transparency of Medicaid.

If anyone can shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it. This is just getting worse and worse the more we learn about the gealthcare changes in the bill no one read before they rammed it thru. Crazy!

I looked up F100's Dr recommendation in CA. That Dr. seems to have it together and light years ahead of what we're subjected to here in CO.

Smalls, Janey, F100, Rainbow any advice is much obliged.
