Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 13)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Mac, Have a quick question! So I have had 2 mri's in the last 4 years due to damage to my knee, it now shows severe arthristis,(due to 2 different injuries in my past) and the pain is there everyday!!!I have tried physical therapy, cortazone shots, and just finished 3 shots for 3 weeks called Synvesc (?spelling) and it has not helped with the pain at all. Since all of this the orthopedic doc has prescribed hydro-co, and now she will does not want to refill it but there is nothing left to do, she says I am too young for knee replacement surgery! I have 3 girls and I try to stay active but have serious limitation. Do you think this particular doc could help me. Most all the time I am in pain, and especially climbing 3 stories in my home! I just wanted your advice before I do anything, Please let me know your thoughts, I have read the whole thread and had really learned a lot. Thanks for all your experience and sharing it all with us. Lovemy3girls

Unified Health Group has whole team of dr.s and professionals its in Arvada CO, they do take Medicaid/medicare and a lot of other insurances. I have ben with this place for 7 months, its fairly new clinic. They are filling up fast. They offer complimentary consultation, they plan out your care see about your insurance. the best thing is the chiropractor can see all of your problems/damage/pain causing etc. the chiropractor communicates with the pain dr. ,they do facet injections. Ive hd plenty others bt the facet injections helped so much .So if you're in pain thr chiropractor sees it on the Xray feels it as you get adjusted.I would like to say they address pain appropiatly not just with meds but therapy..too. They don't force injections on you neither. If you decide you woud like them they will, nd the pain I had was decreased within hours of y facet injections. (of coarse they got my meds to where im comfortable) you can google the location and phone number. This place has helped to give my life back

He is a good doctor and either the doctor or the new PA in the practice will see you if you have recent records and determine whether or not they want to see you. I say go for it if your doctor isn't giving you ANYTHING that helps. The doctor's name is on this thread, so I would say look him up, and call them and talk to them about your situation. From hearing your post I would think they would help you but if you ever ask for just OC they will red flag you, not give you the meds and probably not give you anything. If you have chronic pain you need a long acting med and breakthrough meds. Which if they see that you have chronic pain you should be ok. Just call them. I can't make your decision for you, but I suggest calling them and making an appointment. But make sure to bring all your records because they won't even see you without them. And they do screening every month. Oh and it is a cash facility. They will give you reports of your visit to send to your ins company to try to get reimbursed, which I haven't done but i am going to start doing because damn Obamacare made my insurance go up by 100 already and it could double by next year. The "affordable care act" has nothing affordable about it and I think it should be repealed. All it's done has cost people more money. But this isn't a politics page lol. Just look through the thread for his name and look him up and call them.

well I guess there is no time like the present to try and get the help I want and need. I went to my Dr. and asked about getting an updated MRI and seeing a nuerologist. After putting on her fake smile and just nodding and promising to help me, my Dr. had the office manager stop me on the wayout and give me a letter that she no longer wants to see me for "failure to medically progress." I feel like she doesnt want to have to do anything, but wants me to ne pacified with meds and just shut up and go away. I called the pain Dr. and they want my last few treatment notes. I am worried my primary care said something negative to make it look like she is in the right. I have my last appointment in a half hour. I am hoping she gives me a months worth of all my meds to hold me until I can get in somewhere else. I am waiting on a call back from Dr. Sutherland as to wether he can accept me for primary care and maybe order a new MRI so that I can continue my care. I am hoping for a new, better door to open! I am very anxious and worried. Wish me luck!

Shawna your experiences are all too similar to my own, well,I have to admit you re dx's have nothing on mine.Nonetheless, I stillstrugledittook 2years to find some1 who cares/. I also did the suboxone thing, because when you re in pain, well we try everything legal under the sun. These docs have the DEA breathing down their necks. I have posted this clinic that willhelp and not judge you. Most likely with your nausea etc. you will be offered the Phentynol patch. They care, illgive you the name of this clinic they do take insurance Unified Health Group..located in Arvada. Good luck.i also heard Dr. May is great too that practice takes cashonly.so there are 2 goodoptions.

Hey Mac it's rob. I have a ? For you My wife is kinda new to all this pain stuff. She has been going to the doc about 6 months or so. By the way he never screened her be for.She has a slip disck and a tear in her disck. The doc that has been giving her meds is really pushing for a discgram but are lawer said no tell him you just want to treat it with your pain meds Becouse we are running out of $ on are case. Well she really don't like taking the meds Becouse like I tolubuntu be for we have 4 kids heavy in sports. Well Any way she treats her self with Ibprovin Becouse the kids and shes the main driver to get us around since I can't drive Becouse of my meds. Well today I gave her a about an 1/8 of a 20 mg oxycodone about 1/2 hr be for her appt. we surprise they screened her. You think it will appear in the results? They have the same cup as CPR uses but I don't want to screw up our case. If he writes it in the report and they don't think she is in pain. Witch she really is she's just a good mother and wife and don't want to be medicated to take care of her fam. Please get back to me and let me knw what u think. By the way they did give her her scrips today. Thank you Mac

@Rob. No I don't think it will show up. Your body has to have time to metabolize it. I could be wrong but I would think you would need the same amount of time as it takes for food and drink to be converted into stool and urine. But your whole question confuses me. And just fyi, she should take opiates over Ibuprofen in my highest opinion because NSAIDs destroy your stomach and the lining of your intestines. I actually was prescribed a Rx NSAID and I had bloody stool about two weeks into the month so I stopped. So tell her not to take that. But if you don't mind me asking what medications was she prescribed today and what strength? Because if she doesn't take them and doesn't have a tolerance then they will make her unable to drive if you (with a tolerance) can't even drive. I am on heavy meds for my pain and can drive perfectly fine. And cars are more dangerous then the meds. Just monitor what they do to her because she shouldn't be driving around 4 kids if she's all doped up and in that case the doc might need to lower her dosages.

Actually it might just show up it only takes about 15 min for oxy ir to get into your system but everyone is different so she might be ok but if it does show up just be up front and honest doctors will be a little more understanding if you tell them the truth instead of lying. Hope everything goes well and your family is in my prayers.

Tam the only reason I say that is that I had a friend that did the exact same thing and he didn't pass. He took it at the beginning of his 45 minute drive to the dr and he failed the test. But I wish you the best of luck Rob.

Thanks Mac and tam, they have her on 15mg oxycodone and Valium. She said when she took her U.A she was filling the oxycodone. I been wanting to het her in to CPR but she's not on any slow release. They have the same cups as CPR so do you think if she failed her U.A they wouldint of gave her her script? I just don't want to hert are case we got going with the lawyer. Thank you for telling me about the Ibprovin. I told her to start taking a 1/2 or 1/4 of her meds instead of the Ibprovin. Thank you guys for all your advice. Please get back to me and let me knw what you think. Thanks.

I just came across this site and urs was the first question I found. I was really wondering since this was over a year ago u posted this, if u had found a compassionate doctor? I too am so frustrated that we as chronic pain sufferers have to go thru the wringer to try and live a halfway normal life, then u get the ones who just want to escape reality. I have a primary care who I get some kind of pain medication from, but unfortunately it's a family clinic and residency program so we only get the students. I've been on my same dose for over 2yrs now, my pain was getting worse & I desperately tried to tell them something wasn't right. So I guess my punishment for even hinting that I needed a increase was a reduction in my dosage. When my test results came back from my rheumatologist that my RA had progressed more and more holes in my bones on my hand had shown up. Also that my polymyositis was back and raging & on top of that I may now have Lupus. My primary care dr did not want to hear about it. Their solution is either I find a pain doctor to get medications from or they're going to stop giving me mine altogether. So please help if u could.

Grumpy Bear just read through all the comments. And the doctor will be the guy to decide what to do. He's compassionate, but they have sniffed out the seekers that's for sure. So if you're legit he'll help. But just read through the thread please. And trust me I know ALL TOO WELL about other people abusing pain meds causing problems for me. And it's BS. I'm sorry for your situation, hopefully this thread will help you out. Do your best not to let the pain bring you down emotionally. I know it's hard but it will help with your overall perspective.

Thank u. Proving I'm legit is definately not a problem, I had to have everything documented for my disability case and I have xrays and bone density tests. Thank u for caring and trying to help others bcuz that's really rare and hard to find these days. It's sad we have to be mistreated and treated like we're junkies. Trust me if I could go back to how I was before I got sick I'd take that anyday!

The people at cpr are great so you should not have a problem getting in with them. Good luck and hopefully everything gets better. If you call today before 5 they can probably get u in next week or if u call tomorrow they close at noon.

No problem bear. I know all too well how it is to be treated like a junkie. I lost my sister to abuse of medications and so of course I'm going to be thrown in the pot with her when people know I take pain meds and that my sister died from abusing them.... It sucks ass. But you know who you are and that you have a legit reason for taking them and that's all that matters. I tell people to f*** off when they talk to me like I'm a junkie. It's like go ahead and live in my shoes for even a few hours. Most people would be in the fetal position in the corner. Stay positive and always make sure you're giving a good name to patients who take their meds correctly and for good reason, and not just to get high.

Take Tammy's advice and don't wait a minute to call! My Dr of years also dropped all his pain management Dr's, which sent me into a whirl of what looked like Dr shopping! I'm sorry, having been a nurse I was appalled at the Dr's who charge u hundreds of Dollars, glanced over your chart, wrote you scripts and sent you on your way! I dropped these guys because they never even examined me and after year's of the se treatment, meds were really no longer working! The guys at CPR are compassionate but knowledgable! They did a full exam, talked to me about my treatment and we together came up with a program that gave me my life back! They are amazing! Don't do as I did and try to find someone closer to where I lived! They are well worth the drive! I wish u well! We all really do know what u r going through! Tale care!

Thanx a bunch tam. You've been verry helpfully. I'm gonna try and get her in to CPR. You think they will lower her dose n give her somthing slow realese or keep or were she's at and give her something slow realese? Also they give her Valium but she would rather have Xanax. Is it close enough to the Valium to ask if they can just switch or dose she need a diff reason to get the Xanax? Please get back to me and let me knw what I should do and what you think. Please and thank you.
