Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 100)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Hi all. How is everyone? I haven't been feeling well. Does anyone else have problems with pain meds causing really severe nausea? I can't take a single pain pill without having to take nausea meds with it, and if I don't take nausea meds (like zofran) I can't take the pain pill at all because it will make me so sick that I'll just throw it up and get bad stomach pain. Even taking zofran, I still get nauseous... and it's severe enough to where I have to lay down and just take tiny bites of crackers and sip gingerale. It's awful. I'm so miserable. So even if I get my pain under control, it's like I'm just trading it off for nausea... basically feeling like I have a horrible case of the flu. I'm just wondering if any of you have this problem or know of someone that does, and if so, if you know of ways to help combat it? It's the same when I've been in the hospital and they give me iv pain meds, they have to give me zofran and another nausea med. I've been suffering and today has been a really rough day for me so far with severe pain and nausea since 4am and it's exhausting. I hope you all are well!

Rainbowflowers were you at Aurora UColo hospital or a satellite office? BTW certain everyone here already knows that percocet is oxycodone with acetaminophen which is generic Tylenol. Rainbowflowers' patient-guy could have gone home taken his 5 mg oxycodone and added his own Tylenol from the Tylenol bottle he alreadly had at home. No difference. Same medication same interaction between oxycodone and acetaminophen.

I wonder why doc didn't tell him. Maybe doc didn't want to explain why plain oxycodone is different from acetaminophen with oxycodone or maybe patient-guy was on Medicaid and percocet was covered but a $12 bottle of acetaminophen would be out of pocket and he couldn't pay for it. Just thinking of possibilities.

Oddly UColo doesn't want to write pain med prescriptions and this seems to be an unwritten ? policy throughout their entire medical system except the ER or urgent care areas evidently. UColo Anschutz pain clinic will evaluate a pain patient, diagnose and recommend meds, but the pain clinic won't write recurring pain med prescriptions. Pain patients are referred back to primary care providers or PCPs, their general practioner, internist etc. Problem is PCPs refuse to write prescriptions for opioids. Period. They're scared to death by what's happening with pain meds. I know this firsthand.

The entire pain management system is screwed up by the DEA diversion program. Bad things are happening to true pain patients.

Anna nausea and vomiting is the worst. Sorry you're suffering like this. Too much opioid medication can make you sick. I have a condition where I have to take an antinausea med that's different than the usual meds for these symptoms. Since this sounds like it's a new set of symptoms for you, maybe you could check in with your doctor. Maybe you need different meds. Maybe you have a sinus or ear infection affecting your balance. Maybe it's just the flu. Better safe than sorry. Hope you feel better very soon!

I'm new to posting here but have read this forum since 2012. Pain patient for many years.

My sister, who has cancer and recently finished chemo just had a long surgery at University Hospital. She doesn't take pain meds regularly and also has a high threshold for pain, so when she says she's in pain and not getting relief, I know it must be really bad. UH told her that they didn't want her pain to be at a level 0... they told her this when she asked for a dose of ibuprofen to go with the oxycodone they were giving her. She was shaking and in tears because they weren't keeping up with having her pain under control. She was given two 5mg percocets every six hours and by the sixth hour she was in tremendous pain. They MADE her wait six hours for every dose. It was ridiculous and a really bad and traumatic experience for her. She never wants to go back there again and I don't blame her.

Anna I miswrote. Since these symptoms have come up suddenly is what I should have written. Thinking positive thoughts and energy to you.

Skeptic, unfortunately this has always been the case for me. Some pain meds cause more severe nausea than others, but they all seem to make me nauseous. I take 10mg oxycodone and even 5mg will make me nauseous, so before I take it, I take zofran and phenergan... but still, it doesn't always work. I have a lot of GI issues, so I'm sure that's probably one of the problems. It's hard enough to try and keep pain under control without having to worry about each dose, making sure I have adequate amounts of my nausea meds. A lot of the time, if I don't keep up on the nausea control, it gets ahead of me and then I can't keep anything down and become dehydrated and my pain is through the roof. I just don't know what to do anymore... thanks for responding, that really helps to have someone to talk to at times like this!

Anna I don't know what to say about your sister except I think it was cruel of UCH to do that to her. Blessings and healing to her and you.

Consider filing a complaint with Department of Regulatory Agencies or DORA Colorado's group of agencies that includes the Medical Board. Maybe do the same with upper administration management at UCH. They must be made aware people are in horrible pain and suffering.

Anna gosh we share many similar icky pain symptoms! I get dehydrated too. I normally don't have IBS but a recently added med is making me have IBS symptoms YUCK. I wish I knew exactly what would work. All I can tell you is what works for me. Have to change cell battery will be right back ASAP. Wrote about UCH and your sister but included a link which is holding message up in Admin world. I'll be right back.

Anna dehydration adds to the nausea too as I'm sure you know. It's a wicked spiral.

I use a product called Emergen-C for dehydration. It's fizzy and I sip it. It helps and replaces electrolytes. In the hospital they gave me Gatorade. A lotta sugar, but if all you can do is sip half a glass the entire day - well, I didn't worry about the sugar at that point, too sick. A little 7up helps too. The fizz and a little sugar for energy.

Then chicken soup when I think I can cautiously sip it. No spices for me, has to be very plain. Egg drop soup from the local Asian restaurant works too.

Phenergan works for me. Scopolamine patches absolutely work, too. Scopolamine is an anti motion sickness med. At my worst, I feel like I might die without it. Seriously.

Fall allergies are really bad this year. My ears and sinuses are terrible.

Oh yes, Neurontin or gabapentin was discovered to be adding to my awful vertigo and headaches. Took gabapentin for fourteen years had no clue it made me worse until I had a bad reaction to Neurontin in the hospital. Who knew? Was on a small dose too.

I hope you feel better quickly. I understand and sympathize. Pain is awful. The other stuff complicates everything.
